Chapter 9 A soft thud and a grunt told her that Prince Bennett had landed. The pit, then, wasn’t so deep. Not that she could pull him out, not even if they had all the time in creation. She rubbed her arms and wished them stronger than they were. She crouched at the side of the pit and considered. What could she do on her own? The thrashing in the woods grew louder. Certain of their quarry, the men were no longer bothering with stealth. That could work to her advantage. Or would if she could only concoct some sort of plan. The earth beneath her palms felt clammy, stickier than it should be. She brushed her hands against her dress and then brought her fingertips to her face. Copper, again. Blood, then.
