Hearing Damon say those words brings it all rushing back. All the memories I’ve fought so hard to bury comes clawing back to the surface.
I was fifteen..young, hopeful, and completely in love with my family. Life wasn’t perfect, but it was ours. I had my little brother, Malakai, and two amazing parents who believed I’d grow up to be just like my father. Maybe even a better Alpha, they’d joke.
But then everything changed.
I remember that day like it’s scorched into my brain. Our pack came under attack out of nowhere.
“Stay here, Matteo. Keep your brother safe, okay?” my mom had whispered, tears streaking her face as she pushed us into an old barn.
I held Malakai close as we crouched in the shadows, and through a tiny crack in the wall, I watched my world fall apart.
