I stare after the man who just turned my life upside down, I’m staying here? Above some woman’s bakery who I don’t know and Hallick is going to stay here with me? Alone?
A hand lands on my shoulder making me flinch as I stiffen, relaxing when I realise it’s my mother.
‘It’s going to be OK sweetie, Hallick is a good man’ she tells me softly, ‘he’ll take care of you.’
I’m scared, I don’t want to be on my own, here with a stranger, why do I have to stay here?
Noah steps forward, crouching down so he’s eye level with me, ‘it’s just for a little while’ he explains, pain shining in his eyes. ‘We’re just trying to keep you safe Se, you’ll be protected here.’
