I couldn’t help but stare at Farkas while we were walking through this narrow trail in the forest. I was still so scared of the fact that there might be rogues out there and that they might just be waiting for the perfect time to get to us. It’s my first time wandering in an unfamiliar forest my whole life. Ever since my mother died and the war between packs broke out in the realm, father has been hesitant to let me go even to the town center. I was just in Riverstone. I haven’t had a chance to wander around except in our own forest. That’s why it was really overwhelming for me that I was able to leave the pack without hesitation.
Huh. Guess that’s what pain brought me; courage. Yet, it’s still better to have reservations. I’m entirely new here … and this man in front of me is still a stranger to me.
I watched Farkas’ back intently as he was still holding my hand as we were walking through the narrow lane of the forest. Beside us were the huge trees and bushes, so it was impossible to see the other parts of the forest. That just made me even more nervous. Who knows who might be in the bushes, right?
“Are we near?” I couldn’t help but ask him. I was biting my lip as I scanned the trail that we were walking on. He slightly turned his head to see me.
“Almost there,” he said, giving me a small smile.
I gave him a smile, too. I heaved a sigh and nodded, too. We continued walking. I don’t know how long we were walking already. I could feel my muscles aching and my throat went dry, so I stopped, which made him stop, too.
“What’s wrong?” He looked at me. I could see how his eyes surveyed me and how worried his face was. Our hands were still intertwined with each other while he was checking me out. I was already panting and my other hand was holding onto my chest.
I swallowed hard and tried to look at him. “Uhh, I’m very thirsty…” I bit my lip.
His mouth formed into an ‘o’. He immediately nodded before looking around. He looked back at me.
“Wait for me here, I’ll get you something to drink.” He was about to let go of my hand when I held onto it.
My eyes widened as I looked at him. “Y-you’re leaving me here?” I stuttered. I could feel my knees shaking already. I mean, hello, I am in the middle of I don’t know where, and he’s going to leave me! Hell, just thinking about the possibilities frightens the hell out of me!
“Hey, hey…” He came near me, holding my arm now. It was as if he was telling me to calm down. With that, he gave me a warm smile. “It’s fine. You’ll be fine here. For a while…” He tousled my hair before leaving me and jogging towards the bushes.
I sighed and had no choice but to wait for him. I bit my lip and hugged myself. I looked around to check for any movement. Of course, I cannot be that complacent. I couldn’t relax even though he assured me that I would be okay. Damn it. What’s taking him so long? Oh my gosh…
I almost jumped on my feet when I suddenly heard some rusting in the bushes. I quickly turned around and scanned the tall bushes. I sharpened my sight towards the shrubs around us. I strengthened my senses and sniffed into the air. Luckily, I wasn’t able to smell anything weird.
“Hey.”
I almost flinched when I heard that voice. I quickly looked back and that’s when I saw Farkas holding a bottle of water. I didn’t even know where he got that bottle. He gave me a smile again before handing me the bottle. I looked at the water that he gave me.
“Thanks.” I gave him a smile, too, before getting the bottle from him. “Where did you get this?” I asked before uncapping the bottle. I drank the water without taking my eyes off him. He just shrugged and then showed me a small bag that I didn’t even know that he had. Woah.
I finished drinking as my mouth formed into an ‘o’. I didn’t notice that he had a bag with him just like me. I gulped hard and tried to smile at him. “Thanks again,” I said. He just nodded and extended his hand to me.
“Let’s go? We’re almost there,” he said. Although hesitant, I still reached for his hand. I winced when I felt bolts of electricity running through my body the moment our skin touched. He seemed to notice that, so he looked at me anxiously. “You felt it?” he asked. My forehead creased and my mouth parted a bit when I realized what he meant.
I pressed my lips together and smiled shyly. “Yeah, I guess…”
He let out a chuckle while slowly nodding his head. “Felt the same. It’s weird, huh.”
I smiled sheepishly before looking down. “Hmm.”
He cleared his throat, then I felt him tugging me lightly. That was my cue to start walking. We were silent again. Our hands were still intertwined with each other as we went along the long and narrow trail.
“Just a little more, Louve,” I heard him say while looking at me for a bit. He then pointed out what was ahead of us. I briskly turned to where he was pointing.
I gasped when I saw where we were heading.
“Oh my…” I slowed down as I covered my mouth with my hand. It’s an arc. As we drew nearer, I was beginning to see what was written on the wooden arc. I stopped in my tracks as the cold covered my body. “Oh my bloody hell…” I said as I read what was written.
Shadowstone.
Oh my gosh. f**k! Am I dreaming?! Oh my gosh?! My mouth parted as I looked at Farkas in shock.
“You’re from Shadowstone?!” I exclaimed.
His forehead creased for a bit before shrugging. “I’m Farkas, the new alpha of Shadowstone.” And just like that, I felt like the whole world was dumped into me.
Bloody Hell!
