As I peered around Apex, a vast quantity of bodies came into view. They were swaying back and forth to the beat of the music and were scattered all over the dance floor. The flashing lights illuminated their faces every other second to the beat of the music blasting. I continued taking in this strange environment. I was looking around when my eyes were automatically drawn to this mysterious man.
A man that was sitting in the VIP section which meant he was of high rank. Only the high-ranking crew members were able to be in VIP with their invited guests. He didn’t appear to be an invited guest. He looked as if he ran the whole thing. He was surrounded by men and women that were practically begging and drooling for his attention, yet their advances didn’t get any sort of reaction out of him.
Totally oblivious to the drooling girls and envious men that stood near him. Men that wanted to be him, and woman that just wanted a sliver of any type of affection he would be willing to give them. The thought itself made my blood boil. I wanted to kill all the woman who were swooning over this man. I would be willing to kill any woman who as so much looked in this mans direction.
What the f**k is happening to me?
I had never felt this way for anyone. This feeling of jealousy and pure rage was something very foreign to me. The rage was something I was well familiar with, but I had never felt it over a man. If I’m not careful, this could become a very dangerous for everyone involved.
Why am I getting my hopes up?
Maybe he was just like all the other men I’ve met. Drowning in their own ego that they are constantly oblivious to the world around them. It would explain why he seemed to be lost in his own little world. As much as I tried to stop looking, I couldn’t keep my eyes off him. There was something about him that felt very familiar, but I didn’t even have a clue. I had been so captivated by this man’s appearance. That I hadn’t realized Diego had been trying to get my attention for god knows how long. Next thing I know he is by my ear shouting to get my attention.
“OH MY GOD! YOU ARE STRAIGHT AFTER ALL. NOT GOING TO LIE I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE LESBIAN FOR A SECOND!” Diego screeched.
I rolled my eyes at his remark, and I started striding to the dance floor. As I chose a spot where there wasn’t too many people and close to the exit, I could feel a pair of eyes on me. When my eyes found the man that was in the VIP booth, I instantly felt myself turning red. This time he wasn’t oblivious to everyone around him. Instead, his eyes were staring back into mine. He was no longer sitting on the seated chair that faced the wall with all the women and men around him. He was now standing by the rail which overlooked the dance floor. I could feel his eyes roaming all over my body.
An unfamiliar voice tore me away from looking at the man. As soon as I turned to follow the voice that was barely speaking louder than the music, I instantly knew who the voice belonged to. It was Diego’s mystery man who interrupted me from looking into the eyes of this mysterious man.
“I’m sorry about before. My name is Blake. Blake Evans.” He extended his hand for me to take which triggered Diego’s protective side. Before I knew it, Diego had pushed himself between Blake and I and made Blake step back. Because of Diego’s towering figure, his back was all I could see. My hand instantly went to his shoulder, and I gently squeezed to slowly ease him back into reality. It was my subtle way of reminding him that I am okay. For a second, I had forgotten that Blake was probably on the other side of him super confused at Diego’s sudden behavior. I pushed past Diego to look at Blake, and I instantly could see the confusion that was all over his face.
“He didn’t mean to do that. He thought you were someone else… He’s just protective. It’s nice to meet you Blake.” I tried sounding innocently and as apologetic as I could. I didn’t want this to become more of a scene then it already was. I turned back to Diego, and I could tell that he felt guilty for what had just happened. It was a side that he always kept in control. The only exception would be when we were in crowded place that put him on edge. No matter how relaxed he appears. Unfamiliar and crowded places, especially on territory where we don’t have any control would put anyone on edge.
Diego walked around me to get to Blake. He gave me a reassuring smile and walked off to the bar with his man. I couldn’t help but smile. Diego was genuinely happy. I couldn’t tell if he had chosen someone from my father’s gang out of spite or to have an in, but I could tell that the feelings were very real. No matter how hard he tries to make me think otherwise. I just know him too well.
I started moving my hips to the beat of the music, and I let my eyes wander back to the gorgeous man that was sitting at VIP. To my surprise, he hadn’t moved a muscle from when I last saw him. His eyes were still glued to me, and I could bear tearing mine away from his. I had been in this trance for a while. It wasn’t till Diego shook me that I finally get out of it. I had turned to see what he wanted, and I had noticed that Blake was now looking up at the VIP section. He gave one nod, and he was off. My eyes followed him till I realized he was heading to where that mystery man was.
“What do you think that was about?” I whispered in Diego’s ear.
“I have no idea, but do you see the two women that are sending us both ugly looks over there in the right corner?” He questioned.
I turned to look at the women he was talking about, and I could practically feel the daggers they were throwing with their eyes.
“If only looks could kill” I chuckled out.
I grabbed the drink that was in his hand, and I took a sip from it. It tasted extremely weird. It took me a second to place it and I panicked. It had been spiked. I subtly grabbed Diego’s drink, and dragged him with me to the restroom. I could feel the effects kicking in, and I had only taken a little amount. I could only imagine the effects it was having on Diego. I had put my guard down, and this is what happens. I couldn’t dwell on it for long. As soon as we got into the restroom, I pulled him into a stall with me. Pushing my two fingers into his mouth to make him throw up whatever he could. When he was finally done throwing up, I used my other hand to make myself puke what I had just ingested.
“Look at me Diego. Someone just drugged us, and they’re probably on their way here. Its going to take a minute for you to go back to normal, so we just need to play it off. I’ll get us out of this.” I made sure Diego was at least a little conscious to understand what I was saying. He nodded which was his way of telling me he understood.
We stepped out of the stall, and I helped him put some water on his face to sober up. It didn’t take long for the people who spiked are drinks to barge into the bathroom. Instead of putting up a fight and potentially revealing ourselves, we let them tie our hands together and lead us out in an unfamiliar direction. All I knew is that we were heading away from the dance floor.
Before I knew it, Diego and I were being shoved into a closet. The room was pitch black, and I was trying my hardest to remain focused through the haze. The lights had turned on, and it was hard to focus my vision on what was happening. I instantly recognized the people that were now surrounding us. It was the two women who had been sending us death glares.
“So, you think you two can come in and just steal our men?” The taller one said aloud. The taller one had red hair. Her dress was short, and it was one inch from revealing everything. The other woman had black hair, and she seemed to be on edge by the whole ordeal.
“Can you remind us who exactly you’re talking about?”
“You think you can come and steal her man…” She pointed to the woman with black hair.
“and my man just like that.” Her words were laced with venom.
She had been so distracted with keeping her eyes on me that she hadn’t realized the door had opened revealing two men.
“We are not your men to begin with.” Blake spat out with disgust.
The man that I had been staring at all night was standing right beside him. Seeing him up close, his stature was bigger than Diego and that was really saying something. He took one look at me tied up, and I could tell he didn’t like the sight of it. His posture instantly shifted, and he was now trembling in rage.
His voice came out ragged and on the edge of losing his control.
“Get them out of here Blake.” He rumbled. I knew he was talking about Diego and me. It made my heart swell knowing this man had came to our aide, and he wanted us safe. Even though I didn’t need saving, it was nice for a change to be taken care of. I was just a few seconds away from blowing our cover and using the Glocks that were strapped to my thighs.
“I will deal with them.” As he pointed to the two women in the room, his voice dripped in authority. His eyes never leaving the two women in the corner that were now cowering in hear.
As soon as those words left his mouth, Blake hurriedly ran to us. He untied my ropes first, and I quickly helped him untie Diego. I gave one glance back at the man and our eyes connected one last time. The shrieking voice of one of the women in the corner of the room brought my attention to her.
“KEEP YOUR EYES OFF OF MY MAN b***h!” She screeched as she tried to lunge for me.
In a flash, the man placed himself in between me and the red head which blocked her from attacking me. I wanted to know what was going to happen, but I was being yanked by Blake in an instant.
“Where do you live? I can drive- “
I couldn’t let Blake know where we live, or it would give away our identity. I wasn’t sure what Diego had told him, and I wasn’t going to reveal my true name to someone who is potentially working for my father. He would become suspicious at my heavily guarded place, so I quickly cut him off. “No that’s okay. The drugs wore off. I can drive Diego’s car, and I will let you know when we get home safely.” I reassured him. It seemingly worked. Diego’s car had been waiting for us at the entrance of the club.
“Very well. Please take care of him. Don’t let him out of your sight until the drugs are out of his system.” Before placing Diego in the passenger seat of the car, Blake gave a quick kiss on Diego’s cheek, and he handed me the keys. He slammed the door and started running back inside the club. Probably to help deal with the two women.
When I said, we were going to come out with a bang. This is not what I meant. I started the car, and I couldn’t keep my mind from wandering back to that beautiful man. A man that was now my enemy. If I couldn’t get my feelings in check, I was going to embark on a very dangerous game.
What a night.
