Aurora's Pov
I went to St. Valentine's party that Silvia threw in the bar. The entrance had a huge line of patrons standing who could not wait to get in.
I walked past it, spotting humans that would potentially interest me. Unfortunately, none of them looked delicious to me. Girls wore fun outfits in many red, white, and pink shades. Heart designs were everywhere. But all I could feel were my prey's hearts beating, their blood flowing in their veins, yet it was so mundane that I was not excited one bit. The guys were wearing jeans with sports jackets. Some men went all in. They were in suits and sports jackets, fancy ties and some valentine's ties. There are also couples standing in line, who must be looking for an exquisite experience on Valentine's day.
You could spot vampires by the ease of their fast movements and also by the fact that none of us had to stay in line.
George was guarding the door, making sure only invited vampires were let in and checking in through the patron app.
Each human showed the barcode on his phone, and George scanned it in. The picture of each patron would pop up on his screen after the scan. Each human had to be checked and verified prior to getting an invite. No prior diseases or issues, no drags, and only patrons with a clean history of behaving around vampires were admitted. No criminal records were allowed either, nothing that would ever touch our circle. Silvia ran it well.
I nodded to George and walked right in. He had an impeccable memory and knew every vampire that was allowed and probably even better than the ones that were banned.
When I opened the door, the club's air hit my nostrils. The smell of blood was everywhere. A few humans were serving special treats and drinks inside, right by the entrance containing the tonic that made humans relax even more and desire our bites.
With that smell of blood and pierced skin, I practically felt that my fangs started to itch. All of a sudden, I wanted to taste some treats.
I looked around. My snacks, humans, were everywhere, at the bar, on the dance floor, and at the little heart-shaped tables. They knew better than approaching any of the vampires at the party. It was stated clearly in the rules, and we didn't want to be bugged by our food. We would choose from the menu, not the other way around.
On the stage, Sage and Mathew were performing an acrobatic show. Humans were stunned, watching them almost gliding in the air, hanging off the bars, performing saltos between jumping off ropes, rope staircases, and swings and hanging on to each other, then sending each other back into the air.
I was also mesmerized, even though I knew they didn't need these ropes as they were vampires who could fly. They were hiding the ability, making it look like it was gymnastics instead. That was a rare power most of us didn't possess, and these two surely knew how to show it off. Their glittering costumes, tightly wrapping their bodies, and golden makeup masks shone in the lights while they were flowing through the air, barely touching each other in pirouettes while completely encased into each other unexpectedly and sometimes almost violently. I got sucked into their show just like the rest of the crowd.
I heard the music change to the slow song "Unchained Melody," and someone grazed my shoulder.
I turned around and could not believe my eyes. This must be the same deception my brain had put me through so many times in the last few months. The human I met at the New Year party was standing in front of me, looking right into my eyes. I blinked a few times and almost pinched myself to make sure I was not daydreaming again. His face with the eyes looked different than last time. Not cloudy as before but clear as he knew what he was doing. They were light blue eyes, bright, looking at me, piercing me right through.
No, it was not a deception. It was him. I had not sucked any blood or alcohol, so that must be him.
"Would you care to dance?" he invited me and held out his hand.
This was against all the rules, and how did he find me? How did he break my spell and remember me? Did he have some help? I was not sure, yet I nodded and followed him to the dance floor, and I didn't say anything as I was in some sort of a trance. Was i dreaming?
I placed my hands on his broad shoulders while he grabbed my waist. We were close, too close to each other. His familiar smell was in my nostrils, awakening something. Was it thirst for me or something else? His hands were warming my cold body up. I looked up into his face, trying to figure out what he was thinking, but I could not read a thing. He was not looking at me. Instead, he seemed to be in his thoughts, looking into something far away. I placed my head on the spot where his chest joined his shoulder. I could feel his blood flowing and his heart beating even faster on my touch, even though the dance was slow, too slow.
I was distracted and stepped on his foot and almost fell down. He grabbed me even tighter. I pulled myself together, and our eyes met again. He looked at me as if he had questions as well and quickly looked away as if he was ashamed of something.
But I recovered myself, and we kept on slowly moving together. Our hands were on each other, eyes again peeled into one another as nothing was around us. The bar, humans, and vampires all disappeared. I had forgotten it all. Even my sadness left my body while we were in this moment, as he was swaying me in the dance while I was following. I was following this human. What was happening?
I snapped back into reality as the music changed into a faster dance. We both stopped, disconnected from one another. I took a step back.
"How did you find me?" I asked him. "I want to know everything."
