5. Shopping with Vampire

Aurora's Pov Weeks passed by. St. Valentine Day was approaching. One day followed another, same nights, thoughts, and emptiness. I was watching "Sleepless in Seattle," curled on my couch in the middle of the mess, pretty much as always. The doorbell rang. I opened the door, and I enjoyed rare surprises in this dull existence. Somehow, somewhere deep in my heart, I was hoping to see Elon or a human. Who were my thoughts about? I was not sure anymore. I never even asked his name, and on rare nights when I left my apartment, I thought I spotted him walking by, but it was never him, and I might never see him again. I knew it was not him standing by the door, but still, my stomach got butterflies at the thought that somehow it could be him. I reached the door with one jump. I could not be more wrong. Silvia gave me her grin. "Let me see what is going on in here." She walked by me without an invitation. It was a vampire place, after all, and she had no need for it. "You know you can get cleaning service these days, right?" The thought never crossed my mind, mostly because I didn't care. She saw the stake by my bed. "I have seen this before. What are your plans, killing one of us? You should forget about Elon, build your own life." "I am not going to kill anyone," I said to her and picked it up, thinking about where I could shove it away from her eyes, even though it was too late. "Are you trying to do something funny? Thinking about stepping into the light, maybe?" She really meant literal light. I did think about it, but the idea of becoming a burning torch didn't fascinate me. I also didn't want Elon to know how it went. Although sometimes, I imagined myself getting into the "Empire State Building" on the brightest day and taking my clothes off for the show. I would light up like a candle and probably burn within ten minutes. But pain, I didn't want the pain. However, maybe the pain would be less than this existence. I was all in my thoughts when I noticed Silvia was still eyeing me and my apartment. "So, will you be at the party tomorrow night?" she asked me. "Which party?" "I saw you replied yes to my event. Did you forget?" I usually registered as going to the event, so people would leave me alone, but Silvia must have been on to me. Why did she want me to go? Was she worried about my existence or needed the headcount? "The Spicy Bite, of course! My new bar opening will be on Valentine's night. You better come. Do you have anything to wear? Let's not have a repeat of the New Year's party!" "Is there something specific you want me to put on?" I asked her, watching her, still trying to figure out what her true intentions were. "It has to be nicer than your pajamas. How about that for a change? Let me see what you got?" We went to my closet, and she looked at the assortment of greys and pinks. She ran through it with one hand without pulling any pieces out. She moved her nostrils in disapproval as she often does. "I am taking you shopping," she insisted. "I will not go. There is nothing I want to do less." A few minutes later, we were walking in the mall. Crowds were walking by the glass windows. I saw humans, witches, werewolves, and vampires passing by, loud kids in strollers and running, and everyone talking, chattering, and being annoying. A little werewolf baby ran to us and started growling. "Sorry about that," his mom pulled him away quickly. I was wondering about what it would feel like to have a little creature like this. Vampires could not have kids, yet I knew some weird couples that did take kids in to actually take care of and raise them. I could not imagine exactly why. Humans were oblivious to living in the world with us, which gave us unlimited power over them. We, the supernatural, could see each other instantly and recognize each other. It was our world, our rules, and our playground. Then I thought I saw his head of dark hair, slight waves, the walk. I took off after him fast, too fast. Generally, humans didn't notice as they were too busy with their own lives. I reached him in a few seconds and jumped right in front of him. His face was not familiar. It was not him. I felt dumb, and Silvia also reached me, giving me a stare. I didn't explain anything to her, and we went on to the shopping. Siliva dismissed everything I showed her in the windows. "Let's go to a bit nicer place," she took me to a separate side of the mall that was much emptier. We spent what felt like a lifetime walking into multiple fancy boutiques. Some had a vampire or two working there. Prada only had vampire customers and stuff as well. "Why are you working here," I asked the vampire girl in the boutique. "I love being around pretty things," she replied, surprised and possibly disgusted by my question, as I didn't appreciate fashion. I tried what felt like hundreds of pieces and was judged by Silvia. I had about ten new outfits, some for the party and some to have. Silvia used her gold card everywhere. "My treat, dear." We were about to leave the last boutique when the store's human assistant asked us if we needed any more help. "Yes, we do, and can you get the other one over here? We want to ask something from both of you," she told him. Both guys in their twenties came over to the dressing room. We pulled them in. Silva closed the door behind us. She put her teeth into her guy's neck, which almost instantly relaxed him as the venom entered his bloodstream. At the same time, my guy attempted to scream. I closed his mouth with a kiss. He was still fighting me, so I moved my mouth to his neck, placing my hand on his mouth to ensure he would not make any noise. I pretended it was the guy from the New Year party, which made it much more enjoyable for me. He instantly calmed down, embracing me while his sweet substance provided me with nourishment. When we were done with them, I wiped my mouth with my old clothes that I was about to throw in the garbage. They were both sitting on the bench inside the dressing room. One managed to pronounce, "More!" "It would kill you, Dear," Silvia replied, giggling. "Stay hydrated and forget you ever saw us." "See, shopping and a snack never hurt. You should get out more," she told me on the way. "See you tomorrow."
