CH 26: Basement Interrogation

2000 Words

I haven't been down here very often. It is not exactly bright and welcoming. When I was younger, I would see my father's soldiers drag someone down those steps. Sometimes kicking and screaming, other times they were unconscious and would wake up surrounded by bloody concrete walls. Either way one thing was always for sure, an enemy that went down those steps did not come back up. Their screams were muted at the shut of the door, and it was only a matter of time that they would be silenced forever. I remember my first time being witness to the activities that went on in the basement. It was also Jeremiah and Joel's first time torturing someone. At the time it was assumed the man hanging on the wall by chains was the man responsible for killing our mother. Now, I wonder if he was innocent.
