My Mate's Best Friend

Sara's Pov:

"You do realize you just waltzed into an alpha's house without knocking right", Evan says as we walk into the living room. " Yeah, so your point is", his friend responds making me think he might be crazy. " My point is you just walked into a house that doesn't belong to you but belongs to the alpha and father of my mate", Evan tells his friend as we hear a knock at the door.

"Come in". I shout from my spot on the love seat next to Evan. "See Brent knocked and waited for someone to tell him to come in", Evan says making his friend glare playfully. "Yeah well you forget Brent is also years older than us also or have you forgotten he's like an ancient vampire", his friend says making the vampire roll his eyes. "Ancient or not in any era I'm sure it's still considered rude and inappropriate", Brent says in a bored tone clearly tired of this conversation.

"I'm sorry for these two I'm guessing neither of them has thought to introduce you to either of us", Brent asks gesturing between himself and Evan's friend.  "No they haven't but I remember you from the hospital ", I tell him making him nod. " As I suspected although your mate is smarter than this one he is still quite stupid sometimes", he says causing Evan and his friend to both roll their eyes playfully. " My name is Brent Lockwood and this one here is Max Daniels one of the kings betas and brother to the queen", Brent says.

"Oh and don't forget Evan's best friend which means you are also in the best friend category now too since your his mate", Max tells me literally bouncing excitedly on the chair he's sitting in. "Remind me how we're friends again", Evan asks him making Max fake gasp. "You wound me dude I'll just call Liam my bestie then", Max says playfully crossing his arms. "Sorry man Liam doesn't need two of you he has Hunter which is enough", Evan tells Max.

"Okay, in that case, Brent your my new Bestie", Max says pointing at Brent. "No thank I'd rather die", Brent tells him. "That is so harsh man", Max tells Brent shaking his head. "Okay enough of this craziness Max you'll always be my best friend but I'm guessing you're here for a reason", Evan says turning serious. "Oh right yeah got sidetracked I was just so happy that you found your mate and forgot", He rambles on till Brent interrupts him. 

"Yes Max managed to pick up Trey's scent and followed it to the border where he appears to have crossed over into Ace's territory", Brent explains but get's interrupted by Max. "Yeah and since we can't cross the border without permission your father told us to come here and wait while he called Liam and Ace so for now wait", Max explains further.

I can't help the slight worried feeling that comes over me making caroline whine in the back of my mind. "Hey it's okay I'm not gonna let anyone hurt you anymore", Evan says pulling me closer to him as his eyes change back and forth letting me know his wolf is surfacing. "Evan everything is fine to control him", Brent tells my mate in a calm tone. I feel Evan bury his face in my neck trying to regain control. "Yeah man everything is fine no need to lose control", Max says I feel Evan starting to relax.

"Sorry everyone I just need a moment", Evan says getting up and walking out after calming down a bit. I watch as my mate walks off. "Brent you got this", Max asks him a worried look plastered on his face. "Yeah stay with here I will talk to Evan", Brent says before taking off after my mate.

"Don't worry it's nothing you did he'll be back", Max tells me making me turn to look at him. "He's not rejecting or leaving you or anything okay som don't think that", he tells me. "Why did he walk out like that", I ask him hoping to get an answer. "Look it's not my story to tell all I'm going to say is that some messed up things happened and he's working through his own demons he'll have to be the one to tell you his story", he explains I nod in understanding. "I do wanna ask you to do something though when he tells please try and understand and don't leave him Evan needs you just as much as you need him", he tells me.

"The two of you need each other I know the pain Evan goes through I've seen it first your the first person to ever make him smile a genuine smile in a long time so please don't reject him when you hear his story", He almost begs a worried look on his face. "You don't have to beg I know the rumors about him I don't know the story since I wasn't there but I know the name the alpha turned devil", I say. " I don't believe rumors People talk doesn't make what they true although there is truth to some if but people like to twist words", I tell him.

"Evan and I both are broken we need each to be whole he again I wasn't sure about how I felt meeting him in the hospital and I know we haven't spent much time together our stories may be different but we both know pain and what it's like to lose a parent", I tell him not wanting to go on any further. "Thank you like I said he needs you and you need him I've tried to help the best I can but I don't know what he feels hell Brent knows more about what he's going through than I do", he says getting slightly angry.

" That may be true but your his best friend I can tell by just looking at the two of how close you are a friend like the two of you have is hard to come by it's almost like your brothers and he knows you care that's what matters to him as long as your there when he needs you even if it's two in the morning on a Monday", I tell him making him laugh slightly.

"I know we don't know each other that well but I can your gonna be good for him when he tells you about his past please don't reject him he needs you and I can tell you need him just as much only mates can truly help each other heal I don't know your story but I'm sure there's more to it than what Trey did you've got a lot of pain hidden behind those eyes of yours when you're ready to talk Evan will be there to listen he won't judge or reject you I know you're afraid of that and so is he but don't be take a chance I can tell ya neither of you will regret it", Max says making me look at him slightly shocked for a moment.

"Now enough of this deep thinking stuff how about I tell ya some of Evan's most embarrassing moments from when we were kids", he asks getting a devious look on his face. As I sat listening to the stories about Evan as a kid I couldn't help the smile that appeared on my face.

"We can trust them you know they're here to help", Caroline says catching my attention. "I know your scared but our mate cares and so do the other two even though this one is a bit strange", She says talking about Max. "I know I don't plan on rejecting our mate but I need time", I tell her honestly. "I know and mate will wait as long as you need all I ask is you give them a chance we both deserve happiness after everything that's happened and I truly believe we can finally have that him", she says before fading back into my mind.

"Convo with wolf huh", Max says looking at me with a knowing smirk. Before I can say anything Evan walks back in with Brent following behind him. "Hey sorry about walking out like that Drake can be a bit hard to handle sometimes and we didn't wanna scare you", he apologizes looking at me with sad eyes. "Don't be it's fine and I know you won't hurt me", I tell him making a small smile appear on his face.

"Can you tell Beta Max and Brent to come to my office I need to speak with them and I'm glad your home sweetheart and congrats on finding your mate I know you two will happy together but if he hurts you I'm killing him", I hear my dad say through mind link making me smile. "My dad wants you to see you guys in his office", I say looking at Brent and Max. "Alrighty well guess that's our cue to leave then talk to later and congrats you two", Max says heading for the door. "Yes congratulations I know you both will be happy together", Brent says with a knowing smile making me think he knows more than what he's gonna tell.

 "Thanks, guys we'll talk later keep me updated on what's happening", Evan says following them to the door. I watch as Evan shows them out laughing at something Max says. I can't help the smile that appears on my face as I watch him and one thought runs through my head as look at mate.

Maybe I can trust him but only time will tell I think to myself as Evan walks back over and sits back on the love seat with me. " What would like to do now", He asks. with a smile. "How about a movie", I tell him making him nod in response a small smile on his face. I've decided I'm gonna give him a chance Caroline is right we do deserve happiness I just hope he doesn't reject us once he finds out what happened to us.
