***Rafe***

I was over this dinner before it even began. I know the Alpha was going all out and i would rather just have a small sitting but nope they all think it needs to be some big gestures, I rub my temples, as i sit here this place is packed and all the different smells is playing games with my Lycan he isnt liking it, He is restless i can feel him as he shifts under my skin, making ripples appear,

"Rafe, how much longer do we have to sit here?" My Beta asked me through the link; he was over this just as quickly as I was.

"Hopefully not long, Reggie,"

He shot me a look as another female came up to him, batting their lashes and trying to act all sexy. I wanted to laugh, but held it in. Even though he is unmated, he has a certain type, and none of these females here is it. The look on the girl's face when he shut it down, she spins around, walking off with a huff,

He side eyes me, "You so owe me for dragging me along, these females are nuts, I want to leave," he grumbles.

"Prince Rafe." A woman's voice cuts through our conversation. Looking up, I see an older woman who is accompanied by two other younger females; you can see they are related.

"Trinity Summit." She offers her hand, but I do not take it as I do not like touching others. She closes it, pulling it back,

"My daughters, Adele and Tabitha Summit." They are acting all shy, but I can see they are nothing but that.

I nod, "Pleasure to meet you three."

"Ms. Trinity," The Alpha voice cuts in as he and his Beta walk up to us. He looks at the two girls, then back to their mother,

"Is Poppy here?" He looks up, his eyes scanning the room, but there are so many people in here, there's no way he would spot her. Her name gets a reaction from my Lycan. I suck in a breath, pushing him back,

I also pick up on the sneer those two girls did at the mention of this Poppy,

"Oh, No Alpha, Im sorry she wasnt well today and thought it would be best if she stayed home," I can pick up on the lie right off the bat, as well as the Alpha, he just looks at her like I do,

"You know how it is, with her being only half wolf, she gets sick easily. I would hate for her to get bad."

Oh, pour it on, will ya, I thought.

"Well, if she is sick, then I can understand, but you should have taken her to get checked. Her father was a very high-ranking warrior, and I promised she would be cared for, so you are responsible for her, seeing as you are her father's second chance mate."

Something in his voice stirred something in me. I didnt like it, not that he was lashing at this Poppy girl, but this woman who stood in front of us, who is lying through her teeth,

"Yes. Alpha, I will makesure she is cared for. I would not want anything to happen to her either, after all, her father was my mate, and he took my girls in as his, so it's only fair," She flashed him a smile, but then grabbed the two girls, hurrying them off,

We watched her walk away. I turned to look at the Alpha,

"What's the deal with that woman?" I asked him,

He shook his head, "She was not one of my regular memebers, she came here after her second chance mate. My warrior, Greg Summit, claimed her; those are her daughters. He took them all in; he had a daughter from his first mate, who was human and got sick; she died, and he met that woman. He was killed during a bad rogue attack. I lost a lot of warriors, and he was one of them."

"And this woman, Poppy, she is not a werewolf, I heard her claim she is only half?"

He nodded, "Yes, Poppy is only half wolf, she didnt get a wolf, but she has some traits. I do know she does not heal like us, though. She has come into the clinic with injuries. The doctor says she heals like a human."

"Does she care for his daughter?"

"I want to say yes, but I dont think so, I haven't been able to prove anything, though, Poppy, dont say anything, but we have all seen the marks on her. I have seen that girl so full of life and light, and to see her," He shakes his head.

"Im not surprised to see she isn't here, Trinity seems to keep her from coming, everything is those two daughters of hers, who are the most spoiled brats in the whole pack,"

I spotted that woman making her way through the crowd; she was heading towards the doors. I've seen the help coming in and out, bring the food out. Her steps are hurried as she moves around the tables,

It was only a few moments, and his Beta turned to us, "Please excuse me, but Alpha Mary is asking me to come to the kitchen; she says there is a problem."

"Alright, Hudson, if you need me, please link me. I will come in, normally, Mary dont have any trouble in there."

I glance at Reggie, and I know he saw the same thing I just did with that woman heading there. I wanted to get up and rush in there as something kept nagging at me. My Lycan was becoming more uneasy as we sat here, and after meeting that woman,

My eyes locked on those doors, and when they opened, I was ready to launch to my feet. I see the Beta with his arm wrapped around a young female. He was guiding her towards us when Isawe that woman trailing behind him,

"Poppy?" The Alpha says as they stop in front of us, and that is when her scent hits me, Brown sugar, like warm cookies.

'Mate,' Lycan calls in my head. I was out of my seat, moving closer to them, wanting to pull her into my arms, but she didnt seem to recognize me. I also wanted to growl at that Beta who still kept his arm around her.

"What is going on?" I asked as I took in the look of fear on my mate's face, which made me stop,

"Well, looks like Trinity lied, Poppy here has been in the kitchen this whole time working."

Alpha looked at his member, then to the other women who were standing there,

"Mary, is that true? Has Poppy been in the kitchen this whole time?"

She tipped her head, "Yes, Alpha, she has been, she showed up, I did tell her that you wanted them all here but she said she was told by her stepmother that she is to work in there and help, She seemed afraid to go agsint her, so i let her stay not wanting to get her in trouble with Ms Trinity,"

I could feel my hands shaking. I was fighting against grabbing my mate and pulling her into my arms and holding her, or ripping this woman's head off for her lies. A hand on my shoulder pulled me out of those thoughts as Reggie stood there,

I pull myself together, pushing my Lycan back so I can focus on what's in front of me. I take her in, but I want to frown.

Her clothes are worn and thin-looking, and her shoes are not in good condition. She still hasn't looked up at me, and I so wish she would; maybe then she would recognize us as her mate.

"Im sorry, Alpha. I didnt mean anything by what I said earlier, it's just I didnt think it would be a good idea to have her out here with her only being half wolf, I thought it to be disrespectful to the Prince."
