“So, your name is Isobel?” Radagast smiled at the beautiful girl walking beside him. She looked so perfect. She seemed to know her place, and he found that incredibly attractive. “Yes.” She tried taking a deep breath to calm her nerves, catching the scent of nervousness from his side in the air. It instantly put her at ease a little. “And you are Radagast Silver-fox from the Silver-fox coven.” She didn’t ask, and her statement told him she probably knew about every male at the festival that was single. He wasn’t sure if he liked that or not. “Yes.” A flash of something ran over his face, but she couldn’t quite place the emotion. “Tonight, however, I would like to get to know my future wife.” He smiled, hoping she would just agree and that would be it. “Oh, erm okay.” She hesitated a little. “Don’t you accept?” He stopped walking and looked confused. “I... I don’t know... do you? How will your parents feel? We just met two minutes ago?” Isobel looked wide-eyed at him. “He is our mate! Are you freaking insane!” Mheegan growled at Isobel. “Say yes! Just say yes, you are our mate forever and ever and ever.” “Of course, I accept, and I don’t care what my parents think. You were chosen for me by the moon goddess. She does not make mistakes. Don’t you believe in knowing who your mate is immediately without needing time?” Radagast frowned, not realizing he had said exactly what Isobel needed to hear. “Yes... Sorry, I am just feeling a bit overwhelmed. You are so handsome, and... You can have your pick of any of the witches, yet here you are talking to me, a mere wolf?” She smiled as her cheeks turned bright red. “Ah, my darling. I am very sure that you are not just a wolf. I can see your magic floating around you. Everyone knows that the Lunar pack Alpha’s daughters are hybrids.” He shrugged. “Oh.” Isobel was a little surprised. She didn’t think their little pack was so well-known. “I do have a personal question. Why did you shiver when I put my hand behind your back?” He stopped and studied her for a moment. “Wow, right to the personal stuff!” She blurted out and blushed as a little giggle escaped between her beautiful lips. “Uhm... You are making me a bit nervous.” There was a pause. “Every year we prepare excitedly for this evening, ready to meet our mates, but I have always prepared that my big sister would meet hers long before I met you. I was caught off guard.” “Are you unhappy with our match in any way?” He frowned, and she noted how he kept his arms behind his back, and she could just imagine him clamping his hands together. “I don’t know... I don’t know you yet.” She shrugged, being one hundred percent truthful. “Then I will court you first before our hand-fasting next festival.” He nodded and started walking again, as if that had just solved the entire problem. “Oh okay. I would like that very much.” She smiled, feeling a shiver of delight running up the back of her spine again. “What kind of magic do you like doing?” They found a place to sit, and she noted he took care of sitting close but made sure he didn’t touch her in any way. “I am an air witch, so I am bound to everything to do with the wind and weather.” Isobel felt silly telling him about her magic when he clearly could do so much more than she could. “Do you do spells and mix potions?” He frowned. “No, not really. Mother had only taught us to use only our natural magic and not get into other things until we were older.” Isobel felt really ashamed of that now that she knew her mate was this well-known wizard! “Well then, I will have to fix that, won’t I? Our coven witches learned how to do potions at age eight already. I can’t have my wife feel like she does not fit in.” He winked. They got up and walked up to one of the stalls where you have to show your strength to win a bear. He had to woo her until she was completely under his control, or he would never be able to collect all five of them. He had to be the perfect gentleman. Walking away with an elephant with enormous ears, she started relaxing in his slight grip. “Have you eaten yet?” He frowned, but he was happy that she didn’t shiver again when he touched her. “Yes, thank you. My pack will be moving to watch the hand-fasting ceremonies now if you would like to join them?” Isobel suggested the moment she saw a lot of people moving into the clearing. “That is something I would like to see. Wolves at a hand-fasting ceremony. I have never heard of such a thing!” They met up with Melissa and Frank. Frank rolled his eyes at what was a clear match with the enormous elephant and an even bigger smile on his daughter’s face. Melissa was ecstatic that her daughter had found her mate, and winked at Isobel. The entire pack knew by now, but congratulations were few and far between with Radagast being a wizard, making things strained for Isobel. “Next year that will be us.” He smiled at her, kissing her cheek while they looked at the hand-fasting, and whispering in her ear. She talked him into doing the may-pole dance after the ceremonies and after Circe ends up with the final lint, they all go for a last cold drink before filling the buses to head home. “I do not want this evening to end.” Radagast sighed as they walked over to the bus. “Me neither.” Isobel felt really sad. “You can come home with me and stay over at the castle. You will have your own private room, and we will drive you home any time you feel uncomfortable.” He looked hopeful. “I don’t know... I will have to ask my parents.” She looked nervous. She was eighteen years old, and some wolves met their mates at sixteen already. How did it look for a girl her age to still ask permission? “Of course. I would not expect anything less of a lady like yourself.” He bowed and Isobel breathed a sigh of relief. “But etiquette requires I ask them if you don’t mind?” “No... Yes... No, sorry.” She blushed, looking down. “I mean, I don’t mind at all.” Walking back to her parents in the coffee tent, she felt torn between nervousness of going with a total stranger and spending the night and rather returning to the safety of her home. “Ah, you are back. How was your walk?” Melissa noticed them first. “Yes, I see my daughter has returned to a happy state of mind.” Frank’s smile was strained. “I, we have something to ask of you, Alpha, Luna.” Radagast uses their titles, trying his best not to show his disgust. He would have to keep up his facade until he had his mate at his side through hand-fasting. Even then, he would have to play his game very carefully to win all the sisters. “If you would give your permission for Isobel to spend the night in the castle with me. She will have her own quarters, of course. Trevor is with us, and you have my word that both her dignity and safety are guaranteed. We would just very much like to get to know her. She has me caught under her spell, and I am in love already.” He managed a shy blush. “Isobel, is that what you want to do?” Frank knew this day was coming for one of his daughters. He just wasn’t expecting it to happen now! He waited until she looked him in the eyes.
