Too Dark And Too Cruel

Nathan’s P.O.V. I couldn’t believe that I smelled her here out of all the places. Right here… In the banquet hall downstairs… There she was standing with a few of my staff, clad in an dark maroon colour gown, her face almost bare with only lipstick on her lips. Still looking stunning and with the confidence oozing out with her smile and body language, she was freaking gorgeous. “What got your attention, Nathan?” Theo asked me in a curious tone. “Who is she?” I asked him in a cold tone while taking the sip of my wine. “Who?” he asked me in a confused tone while almost gluing his face on the glass of the floor-to-ceiling window of this room facing the banquet hall. “The one in dark maroon gown, five-six and with heels, approx. five-ten, golden brown curly hair fixed in a high bun.” I defined her, my eyes still glued on her. She was laughing with full mouth open. I could even see the full set of her teeth. “She is ours. Call her here. Mark her ours.” Storm growled aloud, but I pushed him deep down in my mind and blocked him. I needed to stay composed if I wanted to things right for me, for both of me and her. “That one is Summer Holt, the one who was attacked by Alpha Brooke.” He told me while coming back to me. Storm growled aloud angrily, and I clenched my jaw tightly to suppress my anger. Alpha Brooke dared to lay his hands on my mate. Above all, he hurt her under my watch. “Go, and bring her here.” I instructed him in a cold tone. “What? Now? I guess you are going to meet her after the opening speech?” Theo asked me in a confused and surprised tone. Sometimes I literally felt irritated by his chattering. “Go, and bring her here, Theo, and keep her here until I finish my opening speech.” I gritted my teeth while repeating my instructions. He narrowed his eyes while trying to read my emotions, but he knew it was impossible if I didn’t want anyone to read them. “Okay, fine.” He grumbled while walking away. I kept my eyes glued on Summer while sipping the wine. The moment I stepped out of my car at the VIP entrance of the venue, I smelled her. She smelled divine. Her scent mixed of lavender and rose, the only scents that I like the most. Unconsciously I followed the scent and that’s when I saw her standing outside the hall with a few girls. They were chattering and laughing, making her blush and laugh too. That light taint of pink on her cheeks looked so amazing, beautiful that I want to go right to her and kissed her cheeks to taste that blush. The way she bit her lower lip while smiling shyly, I wanted to bite those plump and full lips. She was slim, but curvy and this gown of hers justified every inch of her curves in the most f**king beautiful ways. Werewolves don’t get intoxicated by alcohol, but my head started spinning lightly. “We have waited so long to meet her. Why can’t we meet her right now? Why do we need to wait until the opening speech?” Storm questioned me angrily. “We can’t have mate, Storm. Not yet. We have to reject her. It’s for her sake.” I reasoned my wolf, feeling conflicted with my own emotions. “You would do no such things like rejecting her. She is our fated, the one destined to her.” He roared aloud, but I didn’t pay attention to him and blocked him again. I couldn’t let anyone, not even my mate, be my weakness. The world around me is too cruel and too dark to have any weakness. “She will understand.” I comforted myself, but rejecting my fated mate brought the harshest pain to me that I had ever experienced. I rubbed my chest harshly and punched it a few times while looking downstairs. Theo was now talking to her, and the way she became alert made me smile again. The investigation said that she was one of the best warriors of her pack. She indeed proven it right by fighting with Alpha Brooke, and now showing the protectiveness towards the human girls around her. “She is indeed a Luna material.” I praised her in my heart, but gulped hard in pain. I clutched my glass tightly and closed my eyes. I needed to stay strong and tried hard not to give in to the temptation of mate bond. I put the glass down and almost stormed out of the room when I saw Theo and Summer walking towards the exit. I walked out of the room and strode towards the staircase. For some unknown reason, I felt that I wasn’t ready to face her right now. My heart was running a marathon. I sat down on the third stair and closed my eyes. I didn’t want to reject her. Just like other werewolves, I also wanted to be with my fated mate, but I couldn’t have now. Not right now. “It’s for her best.” I enchanted it again in my heart, but the pain was so unbearable that I couldn’t breathe properly. I stiffened when her alluring scent filled my nostrils through the crack in the door. I saw her going inside the room before Theo. She was perfect. I hit my chest with my fist a few more times to ease the pain but it was hard to breathe with this thought of rejecting her later. I stood up and decided to go down by stairs as her scent became too unbearable to me. All I wanted right now was to go to her, and mark her mine. Mate with her at this very instant. Mold her into me. But I know that I couldn’t do this. Not right now. I stood up immediately and almost ran downstairs. “Where are you?” Theo mind-linked me and asked me in confusion. “I am already downstairs. Asked her to stay there. I will meet her after the opening speech. It’s almost the time.” I instructed him calmly while stopping at the far end of the corridor from where I had to enter the stage in the hall. “Wait for me there. I will be there soon.” He asked me hurriedly and cut off the mind-link. I took a deep breath while closing my eyes. It was going to be more difficult than I thought. "What's wrong with you today? Why are you behaving so oddly?" Theo asked me in a concerned tone. I slowly opened my eyes and looked at him calmly. "It's nothing. Let's go." I replied to him nonchalantly, and then walked towards the door. He grumbled behind me, but my mind was too occupied with what I was going to do later to pay attention to his uneasiness. I entered the hall in a long and confident stride, keeping my aura cold and indifferent for any kind of approach. I sucked a breath when her faint scent, still lingering in the room hit me again. I was glad that it was too faint to affect me. I sat down on the chair on the stage meant for me, and crossed my legs. I glanced upstairs and saw her looking down while putting her hands on the glass. The curiosity and innocence of her eyes made me feel something churning badly in my stomach. I looked down at the people standing down there when I felt that she was about to look at me. She was rejected by her fated mate once, and now I was going to do the same thing. I remembered that Theo told me how bravely she faced the rejection without showing any weakness in front of her mate and her sister. I just wished that she would do the same thing tonight, and........................................
