The Party

Summer’s P.O.V. “Sometimes I really envy and pity you at the same time for being someone with a status. You are my only family and yet you can’t go with me to the party because of your own status as the CEO of your company.” I pouted while complaining to Adam. He laughed and raised his hand to reach my head, but I immediately ducked away. “Don’t. I put a lot of effort into styling them.” I warned him in a stern tone, and he just grinned mischievously. “I just like to mess with your hair. They are so soft.” He replied while trying to reach for my hair once again and I smacked his hand hard while glaring hard at him. “Alpha, we reached.” Our bantering stopped when the driver informed us. I looked out of the window and my eyes widened in awe. This was the most lavished and expensive hotel in the city. “I have a meeting with some investors in another hotel. It’s not far from here. So, I will call you whenever I will be free. Let’s go back home together.” Adam proposed and I immediately nodded in agreement. I had worn an evening gown, and high heels. It wasn’t that uncomfortable as it looked when Adam suggested to wear them tonight. Yet uncomfortable enough to fight if something go wrong later. “Okay. I will stay inside and wait for you.” I chirped and he smiled while shaking his head. The driver opened the door for me, and I stepped out. I shivered when the coldness of air hit my bare back and hands. The gown was backless with a small tail, and a slight on the right side to my knee. I had a matching clutch in my hand, and a beautiful ruby bracelet that Adam insisted me to put on as it was also matching with my gown. I don’t like wearing jewelleries but putting them some time is not bad, right? I walked towards the entrance of the hotel. I showed the person in charge there my company ID card along with the invitation card. It was mandatory for everyone to have their company ID card with them to enter the party. I thanked the person with a polite smile after he confirmed my entry and let me walk in. I took a deep breath and walked inside. It’s not like I never attended a high-profile parties or banquets before. I had my fare share of these parties because Adam always took me with him. I didn’t know why, but I was nervous due to some unknown reasons. My hands were sweaty and my nervousness deepened with every forward step I took. “O my gosh, Summer… you are looking stunning.” I stopped in my tracks right in front of the door of the main hall and smiled when I saw Emily with few of our colleagues approaching the door too. Emily had worn an off-shoulder evening maxi dress in sea green colour. She was also looking gorgeous. With her feary red hair, and pale skin, she looked beautiful already. “Emily… you are looking gorgeous too.” I complimented her genuinely and she grinned. I looked at the other two girls and smiled widely. “You two are stunning.” I complimented them too, showing my sincerity. “But you are looking ravishing, Summer.” Christine complimented, making me blush. “I swear that I am straight or else.” Stella teased and the blushed deepened. “Are you okay now? Gosh… I was scared to death when I saw that man attacking you.” Emily grumbled while looking all over me in a worried tone. “I am really fine now, Emily. Thanks to our security staff, he wasn’t able to hurt me seriously.” I replied to her, trying to comfort her, she still looked worried. “Okay… I am fine… and tonight we are going to have fun to our heart's content.” I tried to cheer them up, and they all immediately grinned. “To the heart's content.” Stella bumped her fist high in the air and we all followed her lead, and laughed aloud again. “Let’s go. I heard that they invited Michelin chefs for tonight buffet.” Emily said excitedly and we all immediately walked forward. “Wow!” we all exclaimed in unison while admiring the décor of the hall in awe while going deeper. “This is what they called wealthy life.” Christine exclaimed in a hushed tone. “Yeah… those chandeliers, I bet they are one of the expensive items present here.” Stella exclaimed in a hushed tone too. “We are working for Grant’s, girls. You will soon become habitual to see these kinds of lavishness.” I said to them to boost their confidence. All of them were humans and I could feel their nervousness. They all had joined the company three months before me. So, technically all of us were rookie and yet had to find our footing there. “Hey… over there.. our team is there.” Emily pointed out and we all sauntered their in hurried steps. We all were in high heels, and we all looked at each other when the sound of clicking heels against the floor came in synchronization and grinned. It made me recall my school days when I and my friends always tried to walk in synchronization. It felt good to have someone with you of the same vibe. We all giggled while tucking our hands around each other’s hands and walked confidently. Soon we approached our group and mingled with them. I took a glass of cold drink instead of wine. As a werewolf, our tolerance to wine and alcohol is better than humans. Still, I preferred having cold drink instead of wine. Emily and others took wine glasses and exclaimed aloud in awe after taking a sip. It seemed that I was going to take care of them after the party. The cheerful chattering filled the atmosphere in no time. I also felt light after some time, but that lingering uneasy feeling was still nagging my subconscious mind from time to time. I felt as if someone was watching me. I looked around a few times but didn’t find anyone suspicious around me. I kept talking with girls about whatever topic they brought, including the latest gossip about celebrities or any other famous identity. I smiled while listening to them. “Hey…. Who is he?” Suddenly Christine asked us in a hushed tone and I also looked in the direction she pointed out. I was stunned to the man standing in the middle of the entrance. He was clad in three piece black suit paired with pure white shirt. His curly brown hair set in a perfect hair style, his square long shape with sharp jaw and clean-shaved face, paired with deep brown big eyes, he looked like an epitome of Greek god. I sniffed and stiffened when I realized that he was a high-rank werewolf, a beta I guess. The fact was that there were so many unknown werewolves around me as the whole Grant empire was here to celebrate, but this man’s aura screamed danger. My breath hitched when his eyes locked with mine. “Is he coming towards us?” Stella whispered anxiously and my heart also started beating furiously in anticipation. “Marie.” I called my wolf when he didn’t change his way and it was confirmed that he was coming from us. “Keep your guards up, pup. I am not getting friendly vibes from him.” She warned me and I took a defensive stance in front of girls immediately. He stopped right in front of me, and I craned my neck up to see him. I was not of a short height and with high heels, I was almost five-ten, but he was still a foot taller than me. “Ms. Holt?” he asked in a deep, and husky voice, making me shiver unconsciously. “It’s me, Sir. How may I help you?” I replied to him in a polite tone, trying to sound confident, but his aura was intimidated. “Theo.. Theo Lockhart.” He introduced himself in the same tone, and I breathed out in relief. “We have talked before.” He said further and I nodded in response. “Good evening, Mr. Lockhart. I apologize for not recognizing you earlier.” I apologized sincerely, keeping my voice firm and confident. “No problem…. I guess you didn’t forget about the appointment?” he asked me cryptically, and I knitted my brows in confusion. “But that is after the opening speech, isn’t it?” I asked him in a confused tone and he smiled faintly this time. “Yes, that is. Let me take you there as we need to discuss something before that meeting.” He replied to me, but I sensed something off in his statement. I was still an intern and there was nothing I had to discuss with the CEO or the COO of the company. He gestured to me to follow him while spreading his hand towards the exit. “What’s going on, Summer?” Emily asked me anxiously in whispers. “I have no idea.” I answered him in a hushed tone, but Theo raised his brows. Of course, he listened to me clearly because of his wolf’s hearing. “There is nothing to worry about, girls. This is about the attack on Ms. Holt. It happened in the company, and management felt responsible towards the incident.” Theo explained, but it felt like an excuse now. I looked at the girls and smiled faintly. “I will be back before the opening speech. Don’t you dare to eat anything without me.” I threatened them jokingly while trying to assure them that everything was okay. They all smiled nervously, still looking at Theo anxiously. I sighed and then followed Theo outside the hall. “It’s good to see that you made some genuine friends here, Ms. Holt.” Theo said to me in a teasing and low tone. “I am friendly by nature, you know,” I replied jokingly, and a small smile crept onto his lips too. We both walked to the VIP elevator and I stopped in my tracks abruptly when an alluring and strong scent of moss and forest hit me hard, making Marie growl aloud in delight.
