Nothing But Betrayal

1655 Words
Avery was stunned while blinking hard to understand what exactly was going on in front of her. A beautiful woman just barged out of nowhere and lungs on her fiancée, and kissed him. The shock was that Xavier didn’t flinch or try to throw that woman away from him. “Let’s go, Emma,” Vincent said to Avery in a very low tone while putting his hand lightly on her back. “No…. No…. let me …. Let me understand what I am going to face now,” Avery immediately refused, while removing his hand from her back and looking back at Xavier. “So…. She is your fiancée…. The famous wolf-less girl, huh?” Lilith questioned sarcastically while holding Xavier by his neck. “Lilith,” Xavier growled angrily, making her pout angrily. But she didn’t remove her hands from his neck, as if she were trying to claim her territory. Avery was dumbstruck for a good few seconds, but soon she got the whole situation. She started laughing suddenly while holding her stomach. In reality, she wanted to scream at Xavier right now. He told her that he hadn't found his mate, but he didn’t tell her that he had a plaything in the palace. He told her that she would be his wife by name, but he didn’t tell her that she would have to endure this pathetic excuse of her plaything too. “Emma.” Vincent called her name in a worried tone, but she raised her hand in the air to stop him. She was now seething in anger, but trying hard to control herself at the same time. “Yeah… I am the famous wolf-less she-wolf, Emma Harper. What are you going to do about this, huh?” Avery asked Lilith in a taunting tone, tilting her head lightly while looking at Xavier mockingly. Xavier lowered his head in guilt. During all this time, he didn’t hold Lilith, but she was still clinging on him. He didn’t know why he was so heartbroken seeing that taunt in Emma’s eyes. “Watch your mouth, you s**t and know your place here,” Lilith growled while glaring at Avery. “I know my place better than you, my dear. I am his fiancée who is going to marry him in a few months. My status with him will always be higher than yours,” Avery retorted immediately, holding her chin high. One thing that she understood very well by now was that she couldn’t win this battle by being Emma. If she wanted everyone to give her the respect that she deserved, she had to fight for that. Xavier immediately looked at her in surprise so did Vincent. Xavier felt a sense of pride in his chest the way she confronted Lilith. “Xavier…. D… did you hear her? Th… this wench,” Lilith opened her mouth once again, swearing at Avery once again when Xavier’s growl stopped her. She widened her eyes in shock while looking at Xavier dumbfounded. “I don’t have time for this love drama. Please lead the way, Vincent. I am exhausted and want to rest,” Avery muttered angrily while walking forward, and asked Vincent in the same tone. “Sure, Emma,” Vincent answered her, but gave a meaningful look to Xavier before following Avery inside the palace. “How dare she show her attitude in front of you, Xavier?” Lilith yelled in frustration. Xavier pushed her away from him, taking her off guard. Lilith stumbled lightly but regained her footing immediately while looking at Xavier in shock. “I told you not to approach me until I talk with Emma about us. She is now my fiancée and would-be-wife, Lilith. You can’t just disrespect her like this,” Xavier scolded her coldly, making her eyes almost pop out of shock. Xavier took a deep breath and stepped aside, moving forward to get Emma. Xavier’s heart was in turmoil. He strode forward to find Emma as soon as possible so that he could explain his relationship with Lilith. He knew that he was at fault. Lilith had been his girlfriend for almost two years, and he was thinking about taking her as his chosen mate but he was forced to marry Emma before that. Initially, he had no desire to tell Emma anything about his relationship with Lilith, but now he was anxious to tell Emma everything. Meanwhile, Vincent left Emma in her designated room in the eastern wing of the palace. She was Xavier’s fiancée, and that was why, she had been given a room in the same wing as Xavier and other royal members. Avery closed the door and marched in the middle of the room. She was frustrated and angry. She didn’t understand why fate was playing this cruel on her. At first, it was Nathan and Valerie who betrayed her, leading her to her death. Then it was Emma who was betrayed by her fated mate, and her elder sister. When she thought that she had overcome the pain of betrayal and could have a peaceful life, she learned that she had to endure her would-be husband’s infidelity all her life. “Aaaahhhhhhhhh,” she screamed at the top of her lungs while digging her nails inside her palms to vent her anger. She had no place where she could vent her anger except to herself. She was not the person who hurt herself, but right now, she wanted something else to ease the pain in her heart. She fell to the ground on her knees with a thud. Her knees were bruised immediately due to the impact as the place where she fell wasn’t carpeted. “Aaahhhhh,” she screamed again while hitting her fists on the ground in agony. She didn’t cry when she faced her boyfriend’s betrayal. She didn’t cry when she rejected Emma’s mate. But, right now, this pain was unbearable for her. “Emma….. Emma,” Xavier yelled in panic while banging on the door. “Go away,” she roared in agony while shooting daggers through her eyes in the door’s direction as if she wanted to kill Xavier at this very instant. There was silence for a few seconds before the banging started again. “Emma…. Listen to me, please…. Listen to me,” Xavier pleaded to her while banging the door lightly this time. He could feel her agony in the roar that shook the whole wing. Their relationship was just a façade, but after facing the betrayal of her mate, and rejecting her, Xavier didn’t want to imagine how difficult it was for her to see her fiancee’s girlfriend. “Leave her, Xavier. Was this not what you wanted, huh? You wanted to punish her for this engagement. Now she is in pain. Congrats, bro…. you avenged yourself,” Vincent mocked him with disdain clearly evident in his voice. Xavier growled at him, making Vincent scoff, but he couldn’t refute his allegation. He knew that he was the reason for Emma’s pain right now. “Emma… please listen to me…. Please open the door,” he knocked on the door once again while pleading with her. He wanted to tell her everything related to this engagement, and also his relationship with Lilith. He wanted to tell her that he never thought to hurt her like this. There was no sound coming from the room. He sighed and leaned his forehead on the door frame. “I am sorry, my love…. I am really sorry…. This wasn’t the scenario that I had anticipated after you reached here with me,” he whispered an apology to Emma, his voice filled with regret. “Xavier.” He stiffened when Lilith called her in a sweet voice. In the past, he loved hearing this tone of hers, but right now, he was agitated. Vincent scoffed and walked away from there, leaving Lilith and Xavier alone in the corridor. “You should leave her alone, love…. It will be better for her to know about us now. It’s good that she knows her place now,” Lilith said in a cheerful tone while trying to take Xavier’s arm, but Xavier yanked her hand away, making her stumble again. “Xavier.” She called him in a hurtful tone this time. “Leave us alone, Lilith. Who should know her place and who shouldn’t…. we will talk about this later,” Xavier replied to her in a stern and cold tone, lifting his head from the doorframe. “What’s wrong with you, Xavier?” Lilith asked him in the same hurtful tone. “Just go, Lilith,” Xavier yelled at her this time, using his alpha tone. Lilith trembled hard in fear while looking at him with a hurtful gaze. He moved his gaze to the closed door once again. He knew nothing about Emma except what everyone said about her before meeting her. Whatever plans he had earlier vanished when he witnessed her strength while rejecting her mate. Now, he wanted a healthy friendship with her because she deserved it. “Please, open the door, Emma,” he pleaded to her once again in a very low tone, his voice still filled with pain and regret. He couldn’t get any response from the room. He could hear faint sobs, and he knew that Emma was crying bitterly. He stiffened when he sensed his father’s presence in the corridor. “You are supposed to meet me and your mother in my office with your fiancée, Xavier. Where is she?” he said to Xavier in a calm and composed tone, but stopped in his tracks when he also heard faint sobs coming from behind the closed door. “What did you do, Xavier?” he asked Xavier in a stern tone, who was now standing in front of him with his head hung low in guilt.
