CHAPTER TEN. A Friend.

850 Words
I was reading a Moby d**k when the door opened. I looked up and saw Amalia. She gave me a sympathetic smile.” I came over as soon as I heard.” She said.   “You didn’t have t—“  She dismissed me with a brief wave.” Of course I do. I had to make sure my new neighbour was ok.” She said as she sat on the edge of the bed. She is wearing aqua sweater, dark jeans and black strap platforms. Her hair was in two braids.” That’s very sweet of you.” She smiled, shrugging. She looked around the room with great detest. “I’ve always hated hospitals.” She sighed.” You either leave better or dead.” She looked. She looked at me.“ What’s the diagnosis?” “A minor concussion.” I replied.  She c****d her head.” Are you ok?” She asked, studying me.  I nodded.“ I have a massive head but other than that I’m fine.” I replied. She smiled.” Good!” I giggled when she kicked her feet in the air.” Let’s get to know each other.” “Ok. Should do you want to start or should I?” I asked. She looked up at the ceiling, thoughtfully before saying,” you start.” “I’m seventeen—“ “I know that.” She interrupted, like she was dying of boredom. “I have a brother—“ “Boring!” She roared, collapsing onto my lap like a overly-dramatic actress. I chuckled shaking my head.  “Well jeez why didn’t you start.” She smirked. She sat up.” On to less boring things....I’m Amalia Esterlina del Rossi, I’m twenty-six—“ “I’m bored!” I teased. She grinned, rolling her eyes.” I’m from Sicily, I have two siblings; a younger sister named, Sirena, and a younger adoptive brother named, Sonny. Sonny happens to be Sirena’s.....ex boyfriend.” My jaw dropped.” Before or after he was adopted.” She grinned.” Hmmm.....after.” She replied. “You’re joking?” She shook her head. “Nope. They dated for a very long time, actually...more than fifteen years in fact.“ I looked at my palms unsure what to think.“ And you’re parents allowed that?” I asked. “Not really but he made her happy. That was the important thing.” She said, loss in her thoughts. “Oh.” “Yeah. It wasn’t meant to be, of course.” She stated.” She wasn’t his type, you see. We all saw that it wouldn’t last....even Sirena saw it....but she thought she could make him love her.  But she failed...he left her and left home trying to find himself.” I scoffed.” To find himself. Really that’s his excuse?” Typical. She shrugged.” What about Sirena...where is she now?” She shrugged.” I have no idea. She left with out a word. Heartbroken, I guess but heartbreak shouldn’t stop you from communicating with your family.”  I laid back onto my pillow.” Hm. Does Sonny talk to you guys?” She smiled.” Not has often has I would like him to but when he does he always manages to put a smile on my face no matter what mood I’m in.” “He’s a charmer.” I whispered, bitterly. She grinned.“ Extremely anyway it’s your turn.” She says. “Umm...well—I ah—my mother died a year—“ She gasped and cupped my hands in hers. I frowned when I realized she had leather gloves on.” I’m so sorry for your lost.” I waved her off.” I try not to dwell on the memory on her death. Anyways, I’m going to marry, when I turn 18 of course, Marty Greenberg.” Her face contorted.” No you’re not. I’m going to marry Marty.” I looked her up and down. “Who fooled you.”  “No one.” She smirked.” Trust me he’s mine, especially, after those...gymnastic routines we did.” I stared at her confused. Gymnastics routines? Do they both do gymnastics together? I would have never guessed that Marty did gymnastics. Isn’t he full of surprises. She started humming.” You seem...lost. Let me give you a hint....it’s natural and people do quiet often some more than others.” I blinked. She frowned.” We had sex.” My jaw dropped.” But I saw him first!” I protested.   She smirked.” Oops.” She twirl a braid around her finger.” He sure does how to treat a lady.” I looked at her grossed out. I gagged. She bursted out laughing.
