33. Daytime Nightmares.

1547 Words
[Jade] "How was therapy?" Mason asked when we were preparing to go to bed for the night. "It was okay," I told him lying in his arms. "Was it okay enough for you to have a good sleep tonight?" He asked me. "I don't know, you know these things take time and it's kind of weird seeing as I can't be spilling my guts to a human." "Okay, why don't we try something else, anything she asks you to do or say that you can't for the obvious reasons, you can try them at home with me when you get back." He told me. I felt so glad that he was being super supportive. "Thank you." I pulled his face down and kissed him slowly. "You can't distract me from this conversation." He told me, smiling. "You want to take a bet?" I asked smugly. "No babe, I just want to talk about your mental health." He smiled. "Okay, fine, she asked me to tell her about my dreams, she said most nightmares are our pent-up feelings and emotions and if we can deal with them then they would go away." "I don't really know." He looked skeptical. "We believe differently, we believe that dreams and nightmares are messages or warnings from the moon goddess to guide us on our path." He said. "That's why you don't believe in therapy, isn't it." "I never said that." He argued. "I believe therapy can work for humans, for you because you grew up differently from us so I think your mind is conditioned like an average human which is why you can be affected by violence and things like that because they are not normal to you." "Are you saying that I'm just a dumb human?" I frowned and rolled to my side of the bed. "Come on Jade, you know that's not what I meant, I just mean you're not used to the bloodshed and violence and deaths that you've seen these past few months, it doesn't really affect me because I am used to it." He explained spooning me from behind. "It's fine Mace, I get you." I turned to him and pecked him on the nose. "So are you going to tell me about your strange dream?" He asked. "There's nothing much to tell, it's just me pursuing myself into a pit and then covering myself up and it's always really dark and frightening." I shivered as I told him about my recurring dreams. I had had problems with recurring dreams in the past, while I was still in high school before I found out the real truth behind the strawberry mark I used to have, I used to have recurring dreams too. That dream was about the accident I had when I was in middle school and my first meeting with Mason in the woods. It stopped after I found out that it was Mason who saved my life and I never had it again. The recurring dream then was trying to remind me of the past so that I could find Mason, I wondered what this dream was trying to tell me. "I have no idea what it could mean," Mason said, yawning. "I'm tired, it seems like I'll be able to sleep tonight," I said and pretended to yawn. "Okay, but you promise to work this out with your therapist." He pecked me on my nose and pulled me into his arms. I rested my head on his chest and closed my eyes. *** I woke up drenched in my own sweat, I steadied my breath and looked around me to make sure I wasn't in a pit, I was beside Mason on the bed and he was sleeping soundly. I wanted to get out of bed but I knew that he would wake up and come searching for me if I did so I just picked the air conditioner remote from the nightstand and reduced the temperature. I lay on my back and faced the ceiling as I thought of finding out the meaning of this dream. I could make a potion to stop the dream but that wouldn't stop the message behind the dream. Why was I dreaming of pushing myself into a pit? I stayed awake till it was morning, I pretended to be asleep when Mason stirred and got out of bed, he pecked me on the forehead but I did not stir. "Don't bother the Luna if she doesn't wake up on time." I heard him tell the servants as he exited the room. When I could no longer hear his voice, I opened my eyes and sighed. I waited for about an hour before I got up from bed and went to the washroom. I took my bath and then turned to look at my reflection in the mirror. I did not look like I had a good sleep, my green eyes looked dull and there were bags under my eyes. I couldn't go out like this so I unzipped my makeup bag, I used some concealer to cover my eye bags and I used some black eye pencil to make my eyes pop a little then I used some lipgloss on my chapped lips. I looked in the mirror when I was done and I smiled at the improvement. I went for breakfast and I saw that everyone was already at the table except me. "Good morning everyone." I greeted and tried to sound cheerful even though I was feeling irritable from my lack of sleep. "Good morning dear looks like you had a nice sleep." She smiled at me. "Good morning sweetheart." Mason smiled at me. "Good morning." Sirius and Jay said at the same time then they turned to glare at each other. "We were not expecting to see you up by now, Mason said you were sleeping peacefully." Liya laughed and winked at me. "Yes, I feel a lot better." I gave them a tight smile and took my seat beside Mason. Nana came in a while later with breakfast and that was the only thing that cheered me up, the smell of bacon and eggs in the morning. After breakfast, I decided to go to the gardens since I did not have many duties today. As I turned to go outside, everywhere suddenly turned dark. The sky turned gray and the beautiful garden turned to withered bushes and dried leaves. My body began to shake as I walked further outside and then a heavy wind began to blow. Lightning flashed across the sky and it was immediately accompanied by a loud clap of thunder. Water droplets began to drop from the sky and I turned around to go back inside but suddenly the mansion had vanished. "Mason, Mom, Liya, Jay, Sirius, somebody, anybody please help!" I screamed in panic. I kept screaming but nobody seemed to hear me and then I saw a figure clad in a black cloak advancing towards me, I stood frozen in a spot as lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating the dark figure for a second. I screamed in horror when I realized that I was back in my dream somehow, the person underneath the cloak was me, more figures in black cloaks began to come after me and I ran. The figure chasing after me in my dreams had never spoken before but these figures were shouting and calling out my name, they were calling out for me to stop. Fear gripped my heart and I kept running until I fell into a pit. "No, please leave me, don't hurt me." I pleaded when the figures stood above the pit. They stood there looking at me and I waited for them to just cover me in the pit until one of them jumped into the pit and pulled me into its arms. "Jade, it's me, sweetheart, it's me." "No, please don't hurt me, please let me go." I pleaded, struggling with myself. "Snap out of it, Jade, it's me, Mason." The creature yelled, shaking me vigorously and that was when I broke out of whatever daze I was in. "Mason, Mason, oh my goodness, Mason." I cried and threw my hands over his neck. "It's you, it's really you, you've come to save me." Almost immediately everywhere changed back to normal and I saw myself in the midst of the garden, bending down and crying. "Jade, what happened to you?" Everyone else asked when I calmed down a bit. "I thought you were better." My mother said, pulling me into her embrace. "It was my dream, I was trapped inside my dream, I've n-never had a vision like this in daylight before, it was so real, it f-felt so r-real, I t-thought…" my voice broke as I cried and I was shaking. "Give her to me, I'll take her inside," Mason said and swept me off my feet. "Don't leave me, don't leave me, Mason." I pleaded with him when he took me inside and laid me on our bed. "I have no intention of leaving you, Jade, I'll be here by your side, I love you." His words comforted me as he got into bed and laid beside me. "I love you too."
