55. Alone In The City.

[Mason]

When I woke up, I felt Jade's body pressed against mine, as much as I wanted to take her hand in mine and press her body closer to mine, I couldn't forget what I'd discovered yesterday.

I did not know when she got in but I suspected it was sometime during the night, I was glad she did not try to wake me because Adrien had been in a terrible mood last night.

When I got up, I decided to go back to the pack, no matter how much it would hurt me, I needed to put some distance between me and Jade, I did not know why she kept doing this, her betrayals were some of the most painful things I had ever felt because she was my mate and I did not understand how she did not know that.

I couldn't take it anymore and so I started packing my stuff. I knew when she stirred in her sleep and woke up suddenly but I did not turn to her. I even heard when she yawned really loudly trying to get my attention but I still did not turn to her.

"Mason, you're awake." Her voice caused my heart to skip and I had to stop myself from turning to look at her.

I imagined her tousled hair, swollen lips from sleep, her slightly parted mouth and cleavage because of the flimsy night gown she was wearing, I even imagined her n*pples strained against the satin material of her gown and then I shook my head to expel the thoughts.

"Yeah." I answered dryly instead and went back to packing my back. "I'm leaving."

"Are you leaving without me?" She asked, I could hear the confusion and shock in her voice.

"Well do you want to come with me, Jade?" I asked her, getting slightly irritated.

"What is wrong with you, why are you being like this?" She asked me and I bit my lip to stop me from saying anything but I did eventually.

"I found the birth control pill in your bag." I said and she went quiet immediately.

"I can explain, Mace, listen to me." She got out of bed immediately and came to my side, she tried to touch me but I wouldn't let her, if she touched me now she could ruin everything.

"I don't want to hear anything, Jade and I'm trying not to get mad because Adrien can't handle it so please just let it go." I told her.

"Give me a second, let me pack my things, I'll join you." She said and began to move around the room.

"No, this time I'll be going alone." It broke my heart to say it but it was something that needed to be said.

"What does that mean, what are you saying?" I heard her sniffing as she asked sadly.

"It means you get more time to vacation in the city and be with your friend, don't worry I'll take care of the payment for the car and the room, you can stay as much as you like and I'll leave the credit card with you, you can use it as much as you like." I told her.

"Mason, please don't do this." She begged me.

"I just need some space, Jade, can you give me that?" I asked her.

"Yes but, isn't that going to hurt you?" She asked.

"It will, but I want the pain." I told her.

"Mason, please tell me what to do and I'll do it, I don't want you to get hurt." She said,

"You hurt me either way, Jade, so there's nothing you can do." I said and zipped up my bags.

"Let me at least see you off to the airport or downstairs." She got up from the floor and cleaned her face as she spoke.

"You've done enough, Jade, I'll see you when I see you." I told her and took my bag out of the room.

Behind me, I could hear her wailing loudly but I just shut out her cries from my head.

I'd already told Hugo that he would be taking me to the airport and then coming back to Jade if she needed him.

I also contacted Sirius and asked him to send the private jet because I could not bear to fly with humans again.

Hugo dropped me at the airport and then I followed the private gate to where the private plane was packed, I got in hurriedly and then after a few minutes the pilot took off.

The farther we went from New York, the more pain that I felt. I could barely keep it together but I wanted to feel the pain because it was the only thing that would keep me sane.

After some hours, we touched down in the airport and a car was already waiting to pick me up. The car ride home was quick and I took in a deep breath when I got to the mansion. I did not want to talk to anybody so before I was spotted, I ran to the woods.

I shifted immediately, tearing all the clothes off my back and only then did I feel an epitome of relief.

I fell to the ground after Mason left and I cried my eyes out, he wouldn't even let me explain myself, he preferred to be in pain than to be with me right now.

I'd known that he would be mad whenever he found the pills but I really did not expect him to get so mad, I was so sad I hugged my body on the floor where I was crying.

A part of me hoped that he would reconsider and turn around for me but I knew that he wouldn't, the look in his eyes had been so scary, his eyes were so dark, they were almost lifeless, he had never looked at me like that before and that's how I knew that he was darn serious.

I slept the morning off and even in the afternoon, I couldn't eat anything but I was able to order some ice cream and some chips. I sat on the floor in my robe and I used the chips as a spoon to scoop up the ice cream and chew them.

Food had always been a comfort to me, especially junk food but today they weren't even given me the comfort that I needed.

I spent the rest of the afternoon listening to a sad girl playlist and binge watching sad romantic series on Netflix till I passed out and slept on the floor.

The next morning I woke up and realized that I'd slept on the floor till the morning. If Mason had been with me, I would have woken up on the bed because he would have carried me to bed during the night.

When it dawned on me that Mason had left me and that I was alone in the city, I burst into fresh tears.

I was about to repeat my routine of yesterday when the phone rang and I rushed to it immediately thinking that it was Mason.

"Hello." I said into the phone expectantly.

"Wow, you seem extremely eager to hear my voice." The person on the other side of the line answered and I groaned inwardly.

"Von." I said and I imagined him smiling.

"Ding ding ding." He said. "You're so smart."

"What are you doing, why are you calling me and how did you get my number?" I asked.

"That's too many questions dear, don't you think?" He asked. "Well, to answer your questions, all of them, I have my ways." He said.

"You didn't answer why you're calling?" I sneered at him.

"Yeah, that's right, I wanted to see if you were still in New York and it seems like you still are."

Then I realized that Von had never truly believed me when I said I was going back home, maybe he knew all along that Mason would leave me alone in the city.

"How did you know that I was still going to be here?" I asked him and he chuckled before answering.

"I know a lot of things, Jade and I have my ways."

Well, if that isn't cryptic then I don't know what is."

"Yes, thanks for nothing." I slammed the receiver down in annoyance.

"So you did not realize that I wasn't really calling your phone." He spoke and I moved away from the phone immediately."

How was he still able to speak when I had disconnected the line?

"What do you want, Von?" I asked him frustratedly.

"For you to stop blaming yourself and live a little." He said and the line went dead for real this time.

I didn't know much about the powers of demons because they were also almost a forbidden topic just like black magic is.

From what was happening, he seemed to know a lot of things, maybe demons were telepathic and maybe they could see the future too.

Somehow I felt better after the phone call and I went to have a hot shower then I invited the house keeping service and went downstairs to have breakfast in the restaurant downstairs.

I had some pancakes with syrup and eggs and it was so delicious I was really glad that I had come downstairs.

I went back upstairs when the housekeeping finished their job and I decided to call home. I first tried Mason's phone but my call couldn't go through, I also couldn't text him too, it seemed like he had blocked me from being able to access him.

I then decided to call my brother and we talked for hours. Mason had lied about the reason I stayed back and they all thought I stayed back to have time all to myself for personal care.

After the call, I felt very light headed and I decided to get some alcohol in my system because I was beginning to feel an intense ache and pain in my chest.

I got dressed and then decided to hit a pub but eventually went for a night club, night life in New York was so nice and a lot of people were out and about, it was almost like the day time.

It wasn't hard for me to get into the club because I wore my skimpiest outfit and my hair was let down, I also had makeup on and some accessories, I looked sexy.

"Well, well, well, I see you took my advice and decided to live a little." I heard a familiar voice when I got to the bar and I frowned.

"Do I have to meet you everywhere?" I asked him and he just chuckled.
