26. The Sacrifice.

[Jade] "What is the last thing we need before we can perform the sacrifice?" I asked them. We were outside in the woods and it was the middle of the night, the wind was blowing subtly but the sounds of insects and howling animals could be heard from a distance. The night was dark and there was no sign of the moon. Zilla had erected an altar made in the shape of a stone table with a well in the middle and there were a lot of weird items on it. The heart of a pig, the insides of a goat, the skin of a green frog, and the flesh of a toad, there were also some other items that I couldn't identify. The table was bloody and it smelt very badly, I had to control myself or I would have already gagged a few times. This was my first ever sacrifice and it was freaking me out. Jee had taught me about sacrifices but we'd never done one because she said she never liked doing them, she didn't like the idea of spilling blood but I knew that she had performed sacrifices on more than one occasion. I hoped if she could see me right now that she would be proud of me. There was a knife on the table and two empty silver chalices. "We need the blood of three different witches." She told me and picked up the knife. I flinched a little and fear enveloped me when she slit her palm like it was no big deal and began to squeeze the blood into one of the chalices. "This is your first sacrifice, right?" Zefa asked and I nodded. "It's fine, you won't even notice the pain, it will feel like a little sting and because of the magical properties of the knife, the cut will heal right away." She said, "Fine, but aren't you two from the same bloodline?" I asked her. "We are but we have different powers, you're a green lokai, I am a black blackner and she, she is an enchantress, something far different from your average witch." She explained. Enchantress, isn't that just another word for seductress, or have I been watching too many movies. Zilla was a very beautiful woman with amazing hair and skin, if she really was a seductress, no man would be able to resist her appearance. If Zilla didn't hand over the knife to me next, I would have asked Zefa more questions because my nervousness was causing me to ramble. Though it was a bit cold out, the metal in my hand felt very warm and light, the blade was so sharp I was sure it could cut into anything. "You have to do it now, we are working with time here." Zilla frowned at me. I held the blade in my palm and I closed my eyes. I winced when I ran the blade across my palm and it hurt a lot when I squeezed the blood into the chalice. I watched my blood drop the first two drops into the chalice and then it just kept on running until Zilla said stop. I passed the knife over to Zefa and she slit her palm open without any hesitation, I turned my palm over and Zefa was right, the cut had already healed and there wasn't even a scar left. I ran my hand over my palm and it did not feel different, I felt slightly weak but other than that, I was fine. After Zefa was done, she passed the chalice back to Zilla and she began to cut up all the ingredients on the table and throw them into the well in the middle. They became serious as she was doing this part and I took a deep breath too, the air outside was pure and so I looked up as I took in the air. "Start chanting," Zilla spoke softly and I watched her eyes as they started glowing. Zefa too joined her as her eyes turned black and my own eyes started glowing as we all began to chant the words of the spell together. We held hands and continued chanting the spell, we moved round and round the table and continued chanting the spell, we lifted up our eyes towards the sky as well as our voices as we kept on chanting the spell. The items in the well began to bubble and they melted into a blackish liquid, at this point we still kept on chanting but we left each other's hands and Zilla picked up the chalice that contained all three of our blood. She shook the liquid in the chalice and poured it over the blackish liquid in the well, the liquid bubbled violently, and then it began to change colors. First, it was green then blue and then a lighter blue till it settled on a thick whitish liquid. Zilla used a ladle to scoop up the liquid from the well and she transferred it into the clean chalice. When she was done, the chalice was full and we stopped chanting. The three of us fell to the ground panting heavily. "Was that it?" I asked them, swallowing my saliva because my throat had gone dry. "Yes, it was completed way sooner than I expected because of your powers, they're amazing," Zefa said and Zilla nodded her head. "I don't think I have the strength to move from here and the last step is for a drop of dew from the clear sky to drop into the chalice," Zilla said. The three of us passed out on the grass. *** The next morning I was woken up by the drops of dew on my face, when I got up, Zefa and Zilla were already up and they had gotten the drop of dew that they needed. They transferred the potion into a clear bottle and it was whitish in color but it had a bluish sparkle when it was shaken. "This is amazing, I'm so glad that we've done it." I smiled and hugged both of them. "Yes, we've done it." "Okay, I think we should try it on Liya first, she's with child, I just hope the fever hasn't affected the child much," I said urgently. "We have the cure, but we can't use it yet," Zefa told me. "Why not?" I asked her. "There is no moon out, we have to wait for the full moon before they can use the cure, it has to soak in the power of the full moon first," Zilla explained. "My goodness, why is this so complicated?" I was annoyed. "Most sacrifices are, that's why you need to be patient, I'd you use it at the wrong time then something else might happen," Zefa said. "Also the woman that is with child, there's no easy way to say this but I wouldn't keep my hopes up on the child if I were you." . . [Mason] I watched Liya and Jayden for the last time before I turned away from their room, their breathing was so loud but they were still not responding. I had barely slept since the epidemic started and I also didn't yesterday. I was too worried and anxious, Jade and the other witches were carrying out a sacrifice to make a cure for the green fever that was infecting the wolf pack and I could not wait to hear their results. I walked back to my office where Sirius was already waiting for me. "How is Clarice?" I asked him. "Bad." He muttered and he fell silent. She was so unstable she was barely left awake for more than four hours in a day, she had to be sedated because she was harming herself. Her mental state was wavering with her son's illness and I just hoped for all our problems to end soon. "Has the girl said anything?" Sirius asked me and I shook my head. "No, she only speaks the witch's language and all she does is issue threats, Zefa says we can't get anything from her." "So now that we're sure that the cult is after us, what are we going to do?" He asked me. "I think now we've gotten our proof and we need to take the girl to the witches' council, maybe their great lord would be able to help us." I still remembered when he told me to come back with proof. "Have you heard anything from the witches and the cure?" He asked me, before I was able to answer, the door opened and a crying Jade barged in. "What is wrong?" I jumped out of my seat and raced to her immediately. "The baby, Mace, the baby's not going to make it." She wailed bitterly. Oh no, not that baby. "It's okay, it's alright, please stop crying." I held her in my arms and comforted her. Sirius excused us from the room and I carried her in my arms, I went back to my seat and I cradled her in my arms. It hurt me so bad that the child I was looking forward to would not make it. "What about the cure?" I asked her when she calmed down. "It's ready but they can't use it till the full moon." She sniffed. Full moon? "That is in like three weeks, is there nothing that can be done till then?" I asked her. "I'm afraid not, there's nothing that can be done." "Do you think they will hold up till then?" "I'm not sure, Jay and Liya are quite powerful so it's going a bit slower for them but I am afraid for the Omegas, if something is not done soon, we will begin to record deaths by the end of the week."
