Dinner at Moon Valley Pack was held in a large hall near the center of the territory.
Long wooden tables filled the room, and the warm light from hanging lamps made the place feel welcoming.
Lyra walked beside Daniel as they entered.
Several pack members were already seated, chatting and laughing quietly. A few of them looked up curiously when the newcomers arrived.
“Looks like we’re the guests of honor tonight,” Daniel joked softly.
Lyra smiled faintly.
“Let’s hope not.”
They found seats near the middle of one of the tables.
The atmosphere felt relaxed. Plates of food were passed around, and conversations flowed easily between the wolves.
For a moment, Lyra almost forgot about the strange events of the day.
Almost.
Her wolf shifted again.
Not restless this time.
Alert.
Lyra frowned slightly and glanced around the room.
“What’s wrong?” Daniel asked quietly.
“Nothing,” she said, though she knew that wasn’t entirely true.
Then the room suddenly became quieter.
Lyra looked toward the entrance.
Alpha Kael had just entered the hall.
He moved calmly through the room, greeting a few pack members with brief nods.
The moment he stepped inside, Lyra felt it again.
That strange pull.
Her wolf stirred strongly in response.
Mate.
Lyra quickly looked down at the table, pretending to focus on her food.
Across the hall, Kael felt it too.
His wolf reacted immediately, the same way it had earlier in the day.
His gaze moved through the room until it landed on her.
Lyra.
She was sitting beside Daniel, speaking softly to him.
Kael watched them for a moment.
Marcus, his Beta, leaned slightly closer to him.
“Still think it’s coincidence?” Marcus murmured.
Kael didn’t answer right away.
Instead, he walked calmly toward the table where Lyra and Daniel sat.
Lyra sensed him approaching before she even looked up.
Her wolf became completely still.
Kael stopped beside their table.
“Good evening,” he said.
Daniel stood respectfully.
“Alpha Kael.”
Lyra slowly lifted her gaze.
For a brief moment, their eyes met.
The air between them felt strangely heavy.
Kael broke the silence first.
“I hope the pack is treating you well.”
“Yes,” Daniel replied. “Everyone has been very welcoming.”
Kael nodded once.
Then he looked at Lyra again.
“And you?”
Lyra forced herself to answer normally.
“It’s been… interesting.”
Something almost like amusement appeared briefly in Kael’s expression.
“I imagine it has.”
For a moment, none of them spoke.
Then Kael finally stepped back.
“Enjoy your evening.”
As he walked away, Lyra let out a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.
Daniel watched her carefully.
“You felt that too, didn’t you?” he said quietly.
Lyra froze.
“What do you mean?”
Daniel leaned slightly closer.
“Every time he gets near you… something changes.”
Lyra didn’t know how to answer.
Because the truth was…
Something did change.
And deep inside her mind, her wolf spoke again.
This time more clearly than before.
He is your mate.
Lyra’s fingers tightened slightly around the edge of the table.
Across the hall, Kael paused near the doorway.
His wolf had already reached the same conclusion.
And for the first time, he wondered one very important question.
If Lyra was truly his mate…
Why was she sitting beside another man?
