The drive back to her cabin was tense. Carrie didn’t know what happened to Maverick, but from the moment she left his bedroom in his house, he'd been acting strange. She glanced at him for a few minutes before returning her eyes to the road. He was staring out the window looking cagey.
“What wrong? You’re scaring me,” she said, feeling nervous. He was behaving like there was someone out there watching them, even though they were in the car. She thought of Myalagin, but she shook her head. Myalagin had no reason to follow them. She wasn’t useful to him anymore.
