Chapter 04 I woke up on the bus, with Ruoxie asleep against me. Looking out the window, I saw we were leaving the capital. Ruoxie lit up when we finally arrived in City D and got off the bus. I stretched my arms up, feeling the ache in my back from sitting all day. "Leticia, we can start fresh now," Ruoxie said, holding my hand with a sweet smile. I squeezed her hand tightly and nodded. "Auntie won't be able to find us here." Carrying our things, we left the terminal and began wandering around looking for a cheap place to rent. As usual, it wasn’t easy. While walking, a group of guys blocked our path. I immediately stepped in front of Ruoxie, asking what they wanted. "You two aren’t from around here, are you?" one of the eight guys said. "Wow, you have such beautiful skin." Ruoxie grabbed my arm, clearly scared by their attention. "Don't worry, Ruoxie. I've got this," I said, setting my things down. They laughed. "You think you can take us on with that little frame?" one of them taunted. "Hey, don’t provoke her. The fiercer the girl, the sweeter the sound when she cries," another one joked. One of them tried to grab Ruoxie, claiming she belonged to them, but before they could pull her away, I swiftly grabbed his arm and twisted it. "Ahhhh!" the guy screamed, dropping to his knees. I might be a girl, small in stature, and seemingly weak, but no one could underestimate my strength, speed, and fighting skills. "Come closer if you want to lose your arms and legs," I warned, hiding Ruoxie behind me. After five minutes, the guys who had blocked us were now begging on their knees, hands raised in surrender. Ruoxie was laughing hysterically at their pathetic state, watching as they pleaded to be let go. "We won't do it again, ma'am!" I sat on a wooden bench, staring at them. I asked Ruoxie if I should just send these idiots home. "It's getting late, Leticia. Their moms might be worried. Let's take them home," Ruoxie said, still chuckling at the sight of the guys, whose clothes were torn, black eyes and bruises. I let them stand up and asked if they knew of any rent houses in the area. One of them, shaking, said he knew of one. They led us to a dilapidated building. As we entered, the guys who had blocked us earlier ran to the other side, and more goons emerged. "Leticia!" Ruoxie panicked. I held her arm tightly, glaring at the people coming out of the old building, wielding pipes. "Boss, those are the ones who beat us up! Look, boss!" I asked them if they hadn't learned their lesson. "Don't underestimate us! Our boss is stronger!" one of them shouted. I told Ruoxie to step aside. She looked worried, asking if I was okay. I glanced at her and smiled. "You know no one has ever beaten me in a fight," I said, cracking my knuckles. Leticia Dane Yerez, 25 years old. The eldest daughter of the Yerez family. I grew up in the countryside, and when I was 8, my dad brought me to the capital. Since then, he taught me self-defense and how to handle various kinds of firearms. After 15 minutes, everyone was lying on the floor except for the leader, who now held Ruoxie, visibly terrified. "If I see even a scratch on my sister, I'll bury you right where you stand," I warned, my gaze fixed on the knife aimed at Ruoxie's neck. "Le... Leticia." I tightened my grip on the pipe I was holding. The leader laughed, asking who I thought I was scaring. "Watch how I make your sister here scream," he chuckled, sniffing Ruoxie's hair. I felt my blood boil when I saw blood trickling from the knife on Ruoxie's neck, and I quickly hurled the pipe at him. "Ahh!" The leader collapsed to the ground, eyes wide open. The goons surrounding us trembled and knelt down, begging for mercy. I approached Ruoxie, who was sitting on the ground, covering her ears. Slowly, I walked up to her, and when I stopped in front of her, she looked up with tears in her eyes. "Leticia," Ruoxie said, immediately standing up and hugging me. I asked if she regretted coming with me. I felt her shake her head, holding me even tighter. "Let's go," I whispered, hugging her back. Just as we were about to leave, the group that had brought us there blocked our way. They knelt down, begging for me to let them be my underlings. "Master, we’ll follow every command you give!" Others echoed the same sentiment. They said they no longer had a leader and needed one. Ruoxie hid behind me, scared. "I can't be your leader. Get lost, or you'll be mourning with your leader tomorrow," I threatened. "Master! We know of a rent house! We’ll take you there!" one of the guys said, eager to prove his worth. Ruoxie clung to my arm. "Are you going to die if you lie to me again?" I asked flatly. The guy swallowed hard and nodded repeatedly. "Master, my mom owns the rent house. It’s small, but perfect for just the two of you." They helped us carry our things, following us like eager puppies. I would seriously crush their bones if they tried to double-cross us again.
