Chapter 03
Ruoxie recounted how she was blocked by some goons in an alley while looking for me.
"He saved me," Ruoxie said, pointing to the guy standing just behind her. I immediately pulled Ruoxie behind me.
I didn't feel good about him. He looked normal on the outside, standing out because of his appearance, but there was something about him that really sent shivers down my spine.
"Leticia, he's not a bad guy."
Ruoxie held my arm. I looked at her and asked if that guy knew our identity. Ruoxie shook her head quickly.
"I thought we were supposed to avoid big people. He doesn't seem like a normal guy either," I whispered. Ruoxie turned me to face him.
"He's just a regular bodyguard. He’s about to start his shift," Ruoxie said, also pointing to the guy Rio.
"His team members," Ruoxie replied, indicating the other bodyguards following them.
I glanced at the guy again. My skin prickled when our eyes met.
"Rogan, don’t scare my sister," Ruoxie chided him, frowning. The guy quickly averted his gaze and asked if Ruoxie really wasn’t going to join him.
"I know of a job you both can apply for, and there's an apartment I know of where you can stay. The rent is cheap," he said. Ruoxie looked at me and then back at him.
"Sorry, Rogan, but we really don’t plan to settle down here in the capital. Thanks for the help, but my sister and I are good here," Ruoxie replied. The guy pulled out a business card and handed it to Ruoxie.
"If you ever need help, just call that number."
I thanked the guy for saving Ruoxie and for coming back for her. They said their goodbyes and as their vehicles pulled away—
"Ouch! Ouch!"
I yelped when Ruoxie pinched my cheek and asked where I had been.
"I looked for you all night!" Ruoxie shouted, saying she was scared I had been caught by her mom.
"I worked at a club and earned some money. This is enough for us to travel again," I said, showing her the cash I had saved.
"Where did you work to get this much?" Ruoxie asked, holding the money. I told her I got a job at a high-class club. I didn’t mention that half of what I had was from the guy I had a one-night stand with. I winced as my hips throbbed.
"Are you okay?" Ruoxie asked, concern in her eyes. I just smiled and nodded.
"I'm fine."
I handed Ruoxie the noodles. She happily took them, saying we should eat our breakfast.
My expression softened as I watched Ruoxie enjoy her meal. Who would have thought that two heirs from one of the richest families in the capital would be sitting on the side of a street, just happy to eat some noodles?
Later at the mansion,
"Brother Xierro."
The man was sitting on the sofa, leaning back with his eyes closed, while his secretary and other staff stood behind the sofa.
"When did you get back?"
Slowly, the guy opened his eyes and fixed his gaze on the man walking toward the living room, followed by the staff.
"Just yesterday. I didn’t see you when I got home. I thought you were on a business trip, so I kept myself busy exploring the capital," the guy replied, sitting on the sofa across from him.
"Interesting. Are you going to introduce me to your sister-in-law?"
Xierro paused, touching his neck. There were red marks on his neck, trailing down to his chest.
Xierro's phone rang, resting on the table. He saw the caller ID was from his assistant.
He picked up the phone and answered.
"Boss, we've confirmed that Mr. Nefeli is really gone, and his second wife is now in charge of the company. As for the eldest young lady of the Nefeli family, we've learned that she ran away from the mansion with her stepsister. The current madam of the Nefeli family is looking for them."
Xierro gripped the phone tightly and hung up.
"Tell my men to search every corner of the capital and find the eldest young lady of the Nefeli family," Xierro ordered. The guy sitting on the sofa asked if he had any idea what the girl looked like.
Xierro placed a picture on the table. The guy picked it up and studied it.
"How could an 8-year-old girl manage to run away?" he asked. Xierro's secretary replied that the eldest young lady was currently 25 years old, and that was the only picture they had.
The guy set the picture down, questioning what this family had that brought Xierro back from abroad. Xierro had left his factory work behind.
Jacques Xierro Aragon, 36 years old. He owned the largest arms factory in the world, accepting any kind of transaction, both illegal and legal. He was well-known in the business world and had investment companies that he operated as a disguise.
Xierro was easygoing, calm, rational, and reasonable. He had the typical appearance of a wealthy president.
"I'll repay a debt of gratitude," Xierro muttered. The guy paused.
"I received a letter from the Nefeli family's lawyer, and I need to fulfill it," Xierro replied, bored. The guy slouched back on the sofa, mumbling about how boring it was.
"When are you going back to Italy, Rogan?" Xierro asked. Rogan replied that he still had work to finish in the Philippines and business to take care of.
"It'll be a while."
Xierro glanced at his secretary, who was bowing as she handed him a tablet.
"I got a copy of the CCTV footage from the parking lot, Master Xierro."
Xierro took the tablet and watched the video. He saw one of the female escorts he was with in the room leading him to the parking lot, attempting something harmful.
Then the waitress arrived and chased the woman away. Xierro initially thought the waitress insisted on something happening between them, but from the video, that wasn't the case.
The woman pushed him at first, then came back. Xierro flatly ordered his secretary to find that woman.
"Is she the one who left those kiss marks on your neck?"
Xierro abruptly turned off the tablet and looked around. Rogan was peering over the back of the sofa, looking at the tablet.
"When did you become so nosy, Rogan?" Xierro said irritably. Rogan was slouched forward, resting his arms on the back of the sofa.
"I recognize that girl. Don't you want to know where I've seen her?"
Xierro stared at his brother. He asked Rogan what the price was for the information.
"You scared me. You really do know me."
