Chapter 01
"Leticia!"
I froze when I saw Ruoxie running towards me. I grabbed the bars and asked her what she was doing there.
"What do you think I'm doing?" Ruoxie asked, now kneeling in front of the cell and fiddling with the lock.
"Ruoxie, Mom won't be happy if she finds out you came here," I whispered. The door opened and she grabbed my arm.
"You're not in a position to worry about my well-being, sister."
She pulled me out of the cell. I asked her why she was helping me. My face turned sour and I said that if I disappeared, Ruoxie would become the young lady of the Yeraz.
"I'm not like Mom. I'm not interested in things that aren't mine," Ruoxie said, making me stop. I looked into her eyes and saw genuine concern.
"Mom died when you were little, and a year later, Mom and I arrived. You hated us both, especially Dad and Mom, but you weren't mean to me. Even though you didn't like me at first, you never let anyone bully me," Ruoxie added, now holding both my hands.
"Do... Do you know a way out of here?" I asked. Ruoxie smiled and told me not to worry because she had put everyone in the mansion to sleep and her mom wasn't there.
"Let's go," Ruoxie said, pulling me out of the basement. As we ran, I stared at Ruoxie.
I didn't like Ruoxie because she took everything from me, even Dad's attention, but I wasn't that cruel to turn a blind eye while she was being bullied, knowing she was innocent.
She never made a single move to bully or offend me. I held Ruoxie's hand tightly, making her look at me.
"Once we get out of this mansion... We'll be sisters, one family," I whispered. Ruoxie stopped, her face instantly brightening.
"Leticia! I promise I won't let you down. I'll be a good sister, and we won't be separated!" Ruoxie exclaimed happily, hugging me tightly.
My expression softened slightly, and I hugged Ruoxie back. I thanked her.
So, when we got out of the mansion, Ruoxie took me out of the subdivision.
Hand in hand, I asked her where we were going.
"We're going far away. I have enough money to travel far and find a place to stay," Ruoxie said. I looked at her and asked again.
"Are you really coming with me?" I asked. Ruoxie looked at me then turned to face me.
"Sis, you said once we get out of the mansion, we're sisters. We won't be separated, so I'm coming," Ruoxie said, pouting. I worried because Ruoxie was the daughter of the woman who ruined my family, and I was sure Mom would go crazy.
"Mom will be angry with you, and being the young lady of the Yeraz is—"
Ruoxie crossed her arms and said she wasn't interested in the title of young lady.
"I want to come with you, sis," Ruoxie said, hugging my arm. I held Ruoxie's hand and nodded. Don't worry, Ruoxie, from now on, you're my only family, and I'll take care of you and protect you.
We walked out of the subdivision. I didn't know where we were going at that moment, but I wouldn't go back to that mansion and die like a dog.
We arrived in the capital. To save money while looking for cheap accommodation, we only ate street food.
"Are you cold?" I asked. We were in a playground, under the slide. I saw Ruoxie blowing on her hands.
The rain was heavy, and the cardboard we were sitting on was already wet. I didn't realize rent houses in the capital were so expensive. We were running out of money.
I took Ruoxie's hand and held it in my palms to warm it up. A moment later, I hugged Ruoxie and wrapped her in my coat.
"Tomorrow, I'll try to find a job," I whispered. Ruoxie shifted and looked at me.
"No, Leticia. We can't stay in the capital, and it's impossible for Mom not to find out if you work in one of the establishments here," Ruoxie said. My face turned sour, and I said we couldn't starve.
"You're getting sick again. I'm scared of what might happen to you," I said. Ruoxie looked down and hugged me.
"Promise me you'll come back to me and you won't let Mom catch you," Ruoxie whispered. I smiled and showed her my pinky finger.
"Promise."
The next day
I immediately looked for a job and got hired as a waitress in a club. I accepted it right away.
The work wasn't easy for me because some customers tried to hit on me.
"I'm sorry, sir, but table service isn't included in my job," I replied after placing the alcohol.
The group of guys laughed and said how I could be a waitress with my looks and body.
"How about I offer you 5 million. Just for one night," one of the customers said, starting to touch my arm. I closed my eyes tightly and thought about Ruoxie's pitiful expression waiting for me at the park.
I needed to endure this if I didn't want to lose my job right away.
"20 million, I'm willing to support you and give you a rent house in the countryside. Quit and you'll only give me service," another guy said from inside the room. Everyone in the room fell silent. I opened my eyes slightly and didn't look at the people on the sofa.
"I would be very grateful if you would cooperate with me tonight, young masters, and let me deliver the alcohol here quietly."
The guy from before suddenly grabbed my waist and said he liked girls like me.
"Why are you playing hard to get? You're working here for money, right?"
I immediately got angry, grabbed his arm, and threw him to the floor. The girls in the room screamed.
"I told you not to touch me."
"What do you think you're doing!"
The manager came and pulled me away. He angrily asked if I wanted to lose my job.
"Sir! I came here to be a waitress, not a female escort," I replied. The manager got annoyed and asked if I didn't know who I just beating.
The guy immediately stood up and asked if I wanted to die.
"You're just a waitress!"
I didn't react right away when he was about to slap me, but before his hand could touch my cheek, a guy grabbed his wrist.
"Young master... Xierro," the guy whispered, pulling his hand back.
"Can't you understand human words? She refused once, and she said she's just a waitress here."
I turned and looked at the guy who saved me. He had a good build and face. He had a calm demeanor, and judging by his temperament, his status in society wasn't normal.
He looked at me briefly, then adjusted his glasses. He also looked at the manager who was firing me.
"There's no reason to fire her. I was here when I saw her being harassed by one of my companions. I think you understand what I mean," the guy said. The manager immediately bowed and said the decision was up to the guy.
The manager looked at me and asked what I was staring at.
"Thank young master Xierro, then go to the other room to deliver alcohol," the manager said gruffly. I winced and looked at the guy again.
I bowed and thanked him. I immediately grabbed my tray and ran out.
I don't know if it's just my imagination, but I've seen that guy before.
"I just can't remember where."
