I pulled myself from the door and started preparing, of course I was having a rush of emotions inside of me. But I was not going to dwell on these disasterous feelings I was starting to develop for Ryder.

I did my make up, let my hair loose, I loved how it made me look class fye elegant. Plus, I always tied my hair in a bun. Very few people saw this version of me... Not that anyone ever knew me, I was just an average girl living from hand to mouth.

I glanced at the time, then outside. Ryder was outside that door, and he was probably thinking I was a lunatic who dropped her towel .. probably for a promotion...maybe he saw such kind of staff a lot. I don't know for sure.

“Man up Clara, act like nothing happened. it was just a damn towel, plus you need to focus. for mom's sake.“ I thought, as I soothed my dress with both hands.

I opened my bedroom door, and immediately, Ryder's eyes landed on me.

He raked his eyes from head to toe. His chest was heaving gently as in took me in, like I was taking a moment to worship me.

“You look breath taking....“He said softly, while he extended his hand towards me.

“Thank you, Mr West.“ I blushed, as I tucked a strand of loose hair behind my ear. I could feel my cheeks burn, and my heart uneasy.

“Its Ryder, to you. Let's not act like we are in a board meeting. You are my friend...“ He said, his deep voice was slightly shaky and his eyes never left mine.

I didn't even realize when I moved, but I found myself face to face with him.

“Yeah...friends...got it.“ I felt a foreign sting in my chest the moment I registered those words. Why did it hurt when he just stated the truth?

I was yet to find out what my messed up emotions wanted.

I slid my hand into his, then walked towards the door.

I felt small as he let me out, I felt like I was being shielded from everything.

A part of me wanted to tell him the truth, maybe he would help me and save mom. But another part of me knew that I'd be dead in seconds if I did something like that. But I had to test the waters first.

The air was so warm against my skin, as i approached his car and he opened the door for me.

"Thank you," I murmured. And he simply smiled back, it was the most genuine smile I had ever seen.

“Ryder, can I ask you something?“ I asked gently, as I got into the back seat.

“Sure..." He said, taking a seat too. The driver in front seemed calm, like we didn't make him wait for what felt like eternity.

“If someone ever betrayed you, what would you do?“ I asked, while holding my purse tightly.

“I would kill them... In my world, Loyalty is everything.“ He said simply.

“In your world? What do you mean?" I asked, moving closer to him.

“Well, since I trust you. I guess I can tell you.“ He began to speak, his eyes were fixed on me. like he was about to tell the biggest secret of his life.

“I meant, as Ryder West, this whole empire I built requires loyalty only. I wouldn't be here if I kept disloyal people around me. I'd obviously cut that person off and never allow them near me again..“ He said, and this time, he wasn't smiling...and that scared the s**t out of me.

“Thats a valid point “ I answered calmly..while taking my eyes off him. I looked outside, as if I was admiring the passing buildings. But I wasn't, I was dead scared. Victor probably has known about the necklace now and I don't know if my mom is okay.

“Is there a reason why you asked?“ Ryder held his hand on my shoulder gently. I titled my head to face him, and his face was laced with concern.

“No reason, I was just asking. I was reading something and I wanted to know your view about it.“ I answered..I won't lie, I felt like I was holding in a long breath.

He didn't ask further, he simply nodded then took out his phone from the jacket.

Within minutes, he took his phone back in his pocket then glanced at me, this time.. with a smile.

“I would like to give you a surprise tomorrow. Since we will only be working for half a day. I figured I might show you something, I swear you'll love it." He said, while his hands were now cupped with mine.

My eyes lit up immediately... “Wow really?“

I moved closer to him, feeling the space between close.

This man was going to be the death of me.

And then, I kissed his lips .. For a second, I thought it was stupid, that I should just pull away...

But he instantly kissed me back, passionately.

“Mmhh..“ He moaned in my mouth, sending shivers down my spine.
