The dream came fast and Selena's world blurred into several scenes. The first scene was that of a very dark , cold and wet room. Selena looked around but saw nothing, she only heard the dripping of water from a low ceiling.
As she spun around, trying to find some light, something caught her attention and she focused her attention on two yellow reflective orbs. She cautiously moved closer to the source. They were eyes, she realized, and she fearfully took several steps backwards.
Suddenly, the dark space became dimly lit and the face behind the yellow eyes came into view. A man sat on a metal chair, his eyes focused in her direction, but now that there was a sliver of light his eyes had transitioned to a deep brown.
He wore a leather jacket which was unzipped, he shifted slightly in his chair. The jacket moved with him and a toned muscular chest was exposed. A rough sigh came from him and Selena looked up at his face.
He had a square face with a broad bone structure, a perfectly trimmed black beard, high cheek bones that defined the hollows of his cheeks, and a perfectly shaped broad nose. He had a round eye shape which accentuated his dark brown eyes.
He raised one of his thick black eyebrows, " Did you find him?" His voice was deeper than Selena expected. His eyes appeared to be looking at Selena at first but she soon realized he was looking past her.
She turned around and a man stepped into the light. This man was by no means as magnificent as the man sitting on the chair. This man was smaller and unkept, more rough around the edges and his eyes were more beast than human.
" No." The rough looking man answered. Selena turned to look at the man in the chair. He rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"You're a terrible tracker, Kit."
" A dozen of our pack were killed. I have more pressing concerns than the continuous disobedience of Cassian." Kit retorted back.
"Without Cassian we would lose many more to the vampires." The man slowly stood up and walked closer into the light. He towered over Selena and was at least a foot taller than Kit.
" Cassian's disobedience will be dealt with caution. He doesn't fully understand that our species' survival depends on his cooperation." The man ran a thick muscular hand through his scalp, stroking a magnificent brown braid that fell below his shoulders. A golden broach in the shape of a howling wolf glimmered in the light, his fingers momentarily stopped on it.
Selena studied the man closer and although the man looked like royalty, she thought he looked sickly. His skin was so pale, Selena could see his green and blue veins that ran atop his muscles.
" A disobedient dog can be taught, but not with leniency. Tighten the rope." Kit was exasperated.
"Find him." The man ordered.
" Our priority is our pack. I will find him. But you should punish him, Caden". Kit's tone was ominous but he did not speak any further. With heavy footsteps he walked out of the room.
This is Caden! Selena thought, as she was finally beginning to put the pieces together.
Caden slowly blurred from her vision and she was once again in the damp room with Cassian and Ana. Each of them stood in separate corners of the small room.
Ana carefully studied Cassian, his body was relaxed without a hint of aggression.
" Why did you save me! " Ana demanded.
"I told you not all of us are monsters. And besides, it was the right thing to do." Cassian answered honestly.
" Why have the werewolves broken the truce? You have been in plain sight within our territory." Ana pressed on.
"Your territory? This territory has been ours long before your ancestors invaded our land. And now Caden wants to roam OUR territory once again. It's his birth right." Cassian answered passionately.
So Caden was awake and alive after all! Ana realized.
" There is a truce! Breaking it means war."
" A truce not made by Caden and the war started centuries ago!"
" Ramious will kill you all!"
"No I don't think so." Cassian appeared before Ana in a challenging pose, " Ramious may stand a chance with an unmodified werewolve but not with the monster that attacked you!"
"You're creating an army of hybrids...." Ana said, shocked but holding firm to her defiant stance.
" This war isn't mine and I didn't start it! And I won't feed into it. Your species is a virus just like ours, and neither belongs here amongst humans.
" I am not a savage and I know my place. I deserve to live as much as you do. I never had the option to choose this for me, unlike you!" Cassian's eyes flashed yellow in a moment of anger.
"I have to stop this...." Ana whispered. All these years she hated his species, but she wasn't looking for their g******e.
"And how will you do that? Reason with your lord Ramious to show us mercy?" Cassian taunted.
Ana didn't know if she could reason with her father. He wasn't known to be merciful. If Ramious knew Caden was in his territory, her father would stop at nothing to kill him.
"Caden must seek an audience with Ramious." This was the only solution Ana could come up with, that involved the least blood shed.
" Caden will have his audience with Ramious in the midst of war when our species fight each other for the last time." Cassian slammed his hands on the wall behind Ana, his arms on either side of her face now.
" This can't happen. It won't happen", Ana fought back. Ana was about to push Cassian back when a loud boom shook the room and the walls began to crumble.
Selena saw flashes of Cassian covering Ana' s body as stones crumbled around them. Then she saw Cassian dragging Ana through the maze of dark tunnels. Ana subconsciously followed along.
