My whole world stops as I watch Blu being dragged into one of the SUVs that had driven over the pavement at speed to come to a stop in front of the flat. I run to get to her but I am too late as the cars back up and then drive off.
I stand there staring at them speeding away with her, feeling like I am watching a movie. Time seems to stop as I try to make sense of what is happening. I feel like I am dreaming.
But it’s not a dream…she’s gone.
No…no…no…Blu.
Oh God…
My brain goes blank. My breath hitches in my throat, and I can’t breathe. White noise fills my ears, my knees go weak, and I feel like I am crumbling and falling.
My hands hit the pavement as I keep myself from hitting the ground hard. I force myself to breathe. And my brain to work.
