Rebecca’s Point of View Little by little Rowan started to relax, he wasn’t calm or okay by any means, but he was at least able to tend to Jones and tell Danny and Boom about the man he killed just the night before. It seemed unbelievable that Bastien and I had arrived just this morning. “That’s so f****d up brother” Lucky said in disgust when he heard what happen to little Dewi and the other villagers. “Between all of us we’ll own this whole half of the island, hopefully that will make a difference” Boom said, always trying to find the silver lining. “The first thing we need to do besides dealing with the leftover friends is to get rid of that wretched hostel they’re staying at. Why on earth anyone would voluntarily stay in such a place is beyond me.” Danny made a face talking about it. “I think Boom should look at what the two friends know, for all we know they just met, and they are not involved with the dead guy’s perverse activities. If it turns out they’re just as awful as he was, then we do the world a favor and kill them too. I also think we should offer to buy the owner of the hostel out, and if that doesn’t work, then we’ll make a new plan” Bastien suggested. “I agree with Bastien” Boom looked at the rest of us. “So do I” Rowan said, still right next to Dylan. “You know what we should do with the hostel?” Lucky said, more like a suggestion than a question. “Have Bastien burn it to the ground?” Danny quipped. Lucky ignored Danny’s idea, “we should make it a free clinic and hospital for the people that live around the neighboring villages. Mr. Park sets up clinics like that all over the world. I’m sure he’d be happy to help me get it up and running.” We all sat in silence, stunned at such a wonderful idea. “Jimin, you’re a goddamn genius!” Danny jumped up and kissed Lucky’s forehead, “I don’t care what Rowan says” he teased. “Lucky, that’s perfect!” I was already excited to get started, so was everyone else. Except for Rowan, he wasn’t excited about anything. “Hey, did you guys know shifters live in the village?” Rowan asked Boom and Danny. “Shifters? Like werewolves?” Danny was taken aback. “Kind of, but not really” Bastien and I explained what we knew of them and what trouble that could bring to not only Dewi but the entire village. “Great” Lucky said flatly, “it keeps getting better and better for this little girl.” Jones laid his head down on Rowan’s shoulder and started to rub his eyes. “I know buddy, it’s been a long day. Let’s get you ready for bed” Rowan looked sad as he stood up to take Jones upstairs to get him changed for bed. I knew Dylan rocked him to sleep every night while she read him a bedtime story. “I’ll get his bottle ready for you” I said as Rowan took Jones upstairs. “Thank you” his voice was hollow. I had only turned my back for a moment when Danny started shouting, “Lucky! Her foot just moved!” Lucky hurried over to her, “Bastien, go get Rowan, I think she’s coming out of it.” Bastien was gone in a shot. “Lucky?” Dylan sounded weak and confused, “Where’s Rowan and Jones?” She started to panic. “Rowan is getting Jones ready for bed; he’ll be right down” Lucky calmly told her. “Beloved!” Rowan rushed to her. “What happened to my head?” She put her hand on her head and looked at it, like she was expecting to see blood on her hand. “Where’s the baby?” “Bastien is finishing getting him ready for bed, we’ll tell you all about what happened. How do you feel?” Rowan gently stroked her hair. “My head feels like it’s cracked. Are you sure I didn’t hit my head?” “I’m sure baby, you didn’t fall off the couch hard enough to hurt your head” Rowan answered her. “I fell off the couch, why? When?” “Look Jonesy, look who’s awake” Bastien carried him down the stairs. “My baby!” Dylan held her arms out to him, Jones practically jumped out of Bastien’s arms into hers. She cuddled and kissed him while he reciprocated the kisses by lightly biting her chin. “I’m sorry baby, I don’t think I can read you a good night story tonight. Mommy’s head hurts, a lot.” “I can do it; I’ll tell him an old Korean bedtime story” Lucky volunteered and enticed Jones away from Dylan with his bottle. He took him outside away from all the activity and rocked him in one of the hanging swings. “While you fill Sleeping Beauty in on all the fun, she missed we’ll go to check on what’s happening at the village” Danny said. “Good idea, I’ll go with you two” Bastien told them as he kissed me goodbye. I sat down next to Dylan and Rowan on the couch as we started to explain the story starting from when they left us at the waterfall. “I’m so sorry, I had no idea this would happen. In hindsight I should’ve known” I said sadly. “You know what they say about hindsight, well anyway, I’m not sorry, I’m kinda glad you didn’t know because knowing you, you wouldn’t have agreed to do it had you known what would happen” Dylan said as Rowan massaged her head for her. “She’s right” Rowan agreed. “Rebecca, I’m so sorry I yelled at you the way I did. For what it’s worth I’m so glad you and Bastien were here when this happened. I would not have made it through today without you, without all of you.” “Rowan, please, you have nothing to be sorry about. You reacted like any husband that is madly in love with his wife and baby” I meant it; I would’ve been worried if he hadn’t been as upset as he was. “Baby, I’m sorry you had to go through that again. I can’t imagine going through what you’ve gone through. I would be inconsolable if I thought you were dead” Dylan’s eyes got glassy with tears. I got up to wet a towel for Dylan’s head, “I hope Laa brings some herbs with her, I know just the thing to make your head feel better.” “Laa and Suke are coming? When?” Dylan asked. “They’re in the air as we speak” I smiled. Danny’s Point of View “There they are, hiding behind that tree over there” Bastien whispered. “Clearly up to no good, why the hell would you be hiding if you weren’t there to cause trouble?” I was even more annoyed when I saw them plotting behind the tree. “I tend to agree with Danny” Bastien said. “Good. Then let’s skip Boom’s part and go straight to killing them” I started to move towards the tree. “Hold your horses there sir, we agreed to make sure they were somehow involved” Boom pulled me back by the waist of my pants. I grumbled under my breath as I followed behind them. “What are we looking at guys?” Boom said as the three of us came up behind them. We scared the s**t out of them, one dropped a machete he was holding. “Aha! Weapons! We all know what that means” I pointed to the machete on the ground. Bastien covered one of their mouths and I the other. It didn’t take Boom long to find what we were after, “Danny was right, leave enough blood to entice the animals.” That was all Bastien, and I needed to hear, I saw Bastien’s fangs come out as mine sank into the man I was holding. He struggled at first, they all do. And just like always the kicking and reaching stopped a moment before he went limp, I waited until I felt his heart stop beating before I let him drop on top of his terrible friend. “Come, let’s go let my sweetheart Eka know we’re here and find out what where we should take the trash” I said as I wiped my mouth. There was a lot of activity outside when of the very small homes in the village. I made a mental note to come up with a way I could talk Eka and the other village elders into letting us fix up their village. Not enough to take away the way in which they lived but to make it more comfortable and safer for them. “Budi, what’s going on?” Boom asked far enough away so we didn’t startle him. “Oh, my friends, it’s bad. Dewi is very sick.” He looked stricken. We pushed our way into the house that was no better than a hut in my humble opinion, when we got inside, I saw Eka and another woman over a very small, little girl, trying in vain to help her. “Eka!” I said from the door. “Danny, oh I prayed help would come!” She looked terrified for the little girl I assumed was Dewi. “I don’t know what to do for her, nothing I do is working.” “She’s burning up” Boom felt of her head, her poor little body shook with tremors. “Go get Lucky, you’re the fastest!” Bastien said as he tried to help the women. I ran as fast as I could towards the house, I nearly took the door down when I crashed into the house. “Lucky, they need you! Dewi is in a terrible way, she needs help!” Lucky handed the baby to Rebecca and headed towards me without question. “Rowan, you and Rebecca go with him” Dylan ordered. “She’s so skittish and she’s never seen them a day in her life, and she just met Rebecca and Bastien today. Danny can stay here with me and Jones, we’ll be fine. He just fell asleep, that gives you plenty of time to get back before he wakes up for his playdate. Go!” “Can I at least get you and the baby upstairs?” “Rowan, there is no time. She needs help now!” I insisted. Lucky and Rebecca were already gone before he got to the door. Lucky’s Point of View I don’t know how I remembered to grab my doctor kit before I took off but thankfully I did. I knew this little girl was on deaths door as soon as I walked in. “Eka, this is Lucky, the doctor I told you about” Boom said calmly. Everyone took a step back to give me room to examine her. “Hi Dewi, my name is Lucky. I know I don’t look like a doctor but I am.” She opened her eyes and looked at me, I wasn’t expecting them to be the icy blue color they were. “I know it hurts but I have to figure out what’s happening” I poked and prodded her until I pressed on the lower right side of her abdomen, and she almost came off the table from the pain, I knew immediately what the problem was, I looked around and my heart sank. “It’s her appendix, they must have been ruptured in the attack, I need to get them out.” “s**t! Now? Here?” Rowan looked around at the small, dirty hut we were in. “Can we take her back to the house?” “No, she won’t make it. We need to do this right here, right now. Boom, can you do something, so she doesn’t feel any pain and doesn’t know what I’m doing?” He grimly nodded his head and held her forehead tight against his, Rowan held her hand and stroked her hair. “Eka, please take us to where you keep the ingredients you use to make your medicine” Rebecca said kindly but rushed. Bastien went with Rebecca to help her however he could. I turned to women and asked in Indonesian who had the strongest stomach, they looked surprised I could speak their language. I knew they spoke English, but it would be easier for them to understand their native language and I needed them to move as quicky as possible. I asked for the sharpest knife the had, I sterilized it as fast as I could and cut into her, I was surprised I remembered everything as well as I did. If I hadn’t known better, I would’ve thought I had just been in an operating room yesterday, not a lifetime ago. I suppose me watching all the surgeries on the medical channel paid off. Her appendix was destroyed, so was her right ovary. “She must’ve been in horrible pain since the attack” I said out loud to myself. “She was limping, I had no idea she was in such bad shape” Rowan said sadly as he stroked her head. I asked the women to hold a knife into the flame of a candle that was burning and used that to cauterize the blood vessels that before I removed her appendix and ovary. I double checked that I wasn’t leaving anything behind before I started to stich her up with the needle one of the women threaded for me. I asked her to rethread it when I was done, I explained exactly what I was going to do before I moved in between the little girls’ legs. Just as I suspected, she was torn apart. I pushed my rage aside and focused on fixing her, physically anyway. I wasn’t sure her mental wounds would ever heal. Rebecca came bounding in with bowls in each hand, Bastien and Eka right behind her, each carrying bowls. “The poor baby” Eka covered her mouth when she saw me stitching up Dewi’s private area. “Bastien, cover her incision with what you have in your bowl” Rebecca told him. “That should work to keep it clean” Rebecca told me as she squeezed her hand in between Boom and Dewi’s faces, balling up the herbs into small potions and putting them into her mouth. I told Rowan to rub Dewi’s throat to make her involuntarily swallow what Rebecca was giving her. After Rebecca got enough of the makeshift antibiotic into her, she started with the other bowl that she said would help with her pain. Rebecca asked Boom to release Dewi so she could see if the pain medicine was working, we all held our breath, none of us wanting her to feel any of what was surely excruciating pain. Thankfully whatever Rebecca came up with worked beautifully. “That hospital can’t happen soon enough” Boom exhaled. Dylan’s Point of View “Thanks Danny, I feel like a million bucks!” I told him when I finished drinking from his wrist. “I’m sure you do! I’ve got the good stuff and some fresh mortal blood swirling around in there.” “Why isn’t Scarlett here? Or is she and I haven’t seen her yet?” “Pffft, girl” Danny shot me a look, “may I speak frankly?” “Uh, when have you not?” “Listen, I have no idea what her problem is, but I know she’s got one.” I sat up higher on the couch, “what? What do you mean?” “Boom calls it growing pains but he’s nice, I’m not. Which is why I’ll refrain from calling it anything” he seemed annoyed, to say the least and I knew it wasn’t good. “What’s going on, what is she doing?” “She’s never around, I mean never. And when she is around, she treats Lucky terribly. It’s a miracle if he can even get her on the phone half the time. Cedric was the one that got Lucky here because he couldn’t reach her, then when she did call him, she gave him s**t for leaving Tokyo to come here. Not that she was ever in Tokyo, she spends more and more time in the Faye world” he wiggled his fingers to accent his point when he said the Faye world. “What the…?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “If you ask me, she acts like she’s got a boyfriend there. Or she thinks she’s too good for him suddenly” he crossed his arms, “when was the last time you saw or spoke to her?” “It’s been at least two months since I’ve seen her, and it’s got to be a few weeks since I talked to her last” I racked my brain trying to think if she mentioned anything about why she would be acting like this, but I had nothing. “You know your husband; Rowan gets wind of what’s going on he’s not going to be a happy man. He wasn’t exactly keen with the two of them getting together and Miss. Scarlett better recognize that Lucky isn’t Rowan, he put the effort into working through the stuff you two went through because he knew what the problem was, as far as I know, Lucky is as clueless as we are.” “I doubt she has a boyfriend, but I wouldn’t have thought she’d act like this either. Maybe she’s resentful about the whole vampire thing?” “Well, tough titties, she wanted to be a vampire, I was there, I saw her say she wanted to be turned and if she hadn’t been, she’d be dead.” He did have a valid point. “I should call her and let her know I’m alive and kicking.” “Fine, don’t tell her we’re here.” “Okay, I won’t but why?” “Because I told her we weren’t coming until after Boom’s show. I didn’t think it was a good idea for her to be here. The last thing Rowan needed was her treating his best friend like s**t while his beloved lay in a coma. I stand by my decision; I just don’t want to deal with it.” Her phone rang so many times I was about to hang up when she answered. “Hello?” “Hey, are you okay? You sound out of breath?” I asked her. “Are you alright? That’s the better question.” I recapped what I was told about the day’s events, “Lucky just ran to the village to help one of the girls.” “Captain Save a ho strikes again” she said with a nasty tone. “Scarlett, she’s a little girl!” Danny’s eyes were wide as he listened to our conversation. “Do you need me to come there? I mean I can, but I’m really busy between the new store and factory.” “No, Danny and Boom are coming, so are Laa and Suke. I’m sure I’ll survive if you don’t come” I shot back in the same shitty tone she used. “It’s not that I don’t want to come, I will in a few days” she tried to back pedal. “Like I just said, I’ll survive. Anyway, I have to go. My head is killing me and I’m still weak.” “Okay, I’ll see you in a few days.” “Great, I can’t wait.” I hung up the phone and looked at Danny “Dylan, my love, you are a feisty b***h when push comes to shove, and I am here for it.”
