Chapter 78-The Aftermath

1924 Words
(Kamaris) I watched as Kavi raced towards Amira, her small body slamming into her side before she buried her face against Amira's thigh. "You're okay." Kavi cried out, causing Amira to look at her sadly before bending down and wrapping her arms around the girl. I couldn't help but feel my heart clench at the sight before me..something about it made all the air rush from my lungs as I saw a glimpse into our possible future..would we ever have a daughter of our own? Would the gods bless us with a child soon? Could Amira be expecting even now? I'm sure Mabel would've seen it if that was the case. Then the image of Amira thinning and how that light seeped into Dante flooded through me..Her powers are starting to come in..and man are they strong. Not all Athuney can thin and it usually takes years to master..so for her to do it in a matter of seconds..it just proves what Mabel said is true..and no one else can know. Amira's life will be at risk..our future will be at risk and I can't let that happen. "Are you okay? You were so brave." Amira asked Kavi breathlessly, her arms holding her tight as Marcus and Namoka walked up behind us. Marcus reached forward, pulling Amira into a big hug, and lifted her into the air as I had to try and control Arubos..yeah..he didn't like that and neither did I. "Thank you Amira.." Marcus whispered with emotion filling his voice while Amira just nodded before peeking over at me as I tried to hide my scowl. But before I knew it, my hands were on her waist as I pulled her out of Marcus's grasp. I can only handle so much..and after hearing what Gideon said, my protective instincts were on high alert. Suddenly Namoka walked up to us, bending down on one knee as she crossed her fist over her heart. "We are indebted to you...to both of you." She said, glancing between Amira and me. I could see the worry still etched on her face as I reached my hand out before placing it on her shoulder gently. "There is no reason to kneel, my friend. You have done more than enough by letting us stay here." I said, feeling a sense of guilt as I knew people had gotten hurt today because we were here. This could've ended much worse if Gideon hadn't been stopped when he was..I'm sure their infirmary is currently full, but luckily the injuries would only be minor. The levels of black magic he was using though..if it wasn't for this bracelet, things could've gone a different way..I would've had to kill Gideon to stop him. I gripped Amira tighter as I watched Nati and Kaden run towards us now. They decided to take the same approach as Marcus apparently and pulled Amira into an embrace...yeah..this is getting frustrating. Tears streamed down Nati's face as she hugged Amira tightly. "Thank you, you saved her..." She sobbed hysterically as Amira patted her back soothingly, making us all realize Nati was still very drunk. "It's okay, we are safe now." Amira whispered softly before pulling away. That's when I noticed Kaden looking at Amira intently as he went to reach for my girl.. Without thinking, I suddenly stepped in front of him, wrapping my arm around his neck playfully before squeezing. "How are you feeling buddy?" I said teasingly, causing Kaden to scowl as everyone around us laughed..yeah..apparently I am petty now. Suddenly a gasp left Nati as she glanced behind us and spotted Alden approaching. She let go of Amira and ran towards him before crashing into his chest...even I was taken aback by her boldness. His eyes widened with surprise as he looked down. "I was so worried about you." She sobbed even louder. Alden looked down at her, his cheeks red as he slowly patted her on the back. "I'm okay Nati." He laughed light-heartedly, rubbing her back gently. I let go of Kaden and pulled Amira back into me, kissing the top of her head as I couldn't help but chuckle. "Let's go get something to eat, I think Nati needs to sober up." Namoka said with a smirk as we all looked at Nati leaning into Alden..her eyes staying glued to him. We began walking back, the aftermath of what happened not seeming to affect the village in the slightest. People laughed and talked excitedly, some even bowing slightly to us as we passed. The Charaka people were some of the strongest I have ever encountered. I watched as Kavi took Amira's hand when Kaden suddenly walked up..taking Kavi's other hand as he glanced at Amira. Okay..he is really getting on my nerves now..I tried to act casual while listening in on their conversation. "I didn't get to say it..but thank you. Seeing you do that for my little sister. It will be something I will never forget." He spoke softly to her, causing me to clench my jaw in annoyance. Does he seriously want to get his ass kicked again? "I'm just glad I could be useful for once." She responded while glancing up at me playfully. I squeezed her side, making her yelp as she let out a laugh. "You've always been useful to me." I whispered next to her ear before pulling back and winking. Thinking of all the ways Amira has been very useful to me... Amira elbowed me in the side, her eyes narrowing at me before she scoffed. I swiftly bent down, biting her on the neck playfully and causing her to laugh. Once we neared the dining hall, I looked straight ahead as we walked towards a large stone building with tables and chairs placed outside. A strong savory smell wafted out of the open doors as people milled in and out. This was the place we would after every tournament but I was excited to see what Amira thought of it. "I'm starving." She groaned before glancing down at Kavi. "What about you?" She asked. Kavi nodded in agreement before speaking. "We can sit together." She said as she glanced over at me pleadingly. I let out a sigh before nodding, giving her one of my rare smiles, as I felt relieved that it wasn't Kaden... Kavi looked towards her brother now and pulled his hand up and down. "Don't worry, I will sit by you too." She said, causing Marcus to laugh as he walked up behind us. Yeah..put him next to you Kavi..stick him in the corner. "Amira, you gotta try the beer here. This is where they keep the good stuff." Marcus said before winking. He placed his arm around Namoka's shoulders while we walked into the building. The noise level rose exponentially as I glanced around the large hall, assessing our surroundings. I know the soldiers were already making sure the borders were secure, but Arubos was completely on edge...with reason. A younger man with black hair quickly greeted our group and led us to a large table that was bordering the outside. The sun was just setting as pinks and light blues colored the tree line and I couldn't help but stare at Amira as she admired the view quietly..fuck was she beautiful... "Wait until you see the sunsets in Vardis, we can watch them every night." I whispered into her ear before pulling her chair out, causing her to blush. My hands reached down and gripped her face before placing a gentle kiss on her lips sweetly. After sitting, I watched as Alden and Nati walked in holding hands. Alden seemed stiff and awkward but I could see the soft smile pulling on his lips as they came to the table. Amira was shocked but I honestly wasn't too surprised..he has always had a soft spot for the girl.. Marcus let out a loud laugh while pointing at the two, prompting Namoka to slap him on the back of the head and I couldn't help but laugh at that one.. My hand quickly found Amira's thigh as I gripped it possessively, my eyes darting to Kaden who sat beside Kavi as I let my shadows seep out and wrap around Amira too..mine mine mine. Yes..was like a damn child with their most precious belonging and no way in hell would I ever share. Alden and Nati sat across from us next to Marcus and Namoka. It was hard not to feel comfortable with the people surrounding us. I know this is only temporary though..because now that Gideon is here..we can't stay long. It's time for us to go to Vardis and prepare our troops for the impending war..but before that, I think we should make a stop in Evren.. It's time for Gideon to face his judgment before he can hurt anyone else. And once Gideon is gone..then Dalia will be weakened. Namoka looked over at Amira, her eyes studying her as she spoke. "I didn't know you could thin Amira." She said clearly, her voice just as confident as she was. Shit..of course she would bring that up.. Amira cleared her throat, looking across at her as she spoke. "It was new to me too, I'm not sure how I even did it..it was just a feeling." She said bashfully. Then I spoke up, trying to defend my mirror soul. "Considering Amira is newly turned Athuney..she will slowly discover her abilities along the way." I said, trying to end the conversation. That's when Kavi spoke.. "Amira isn't new, she was here before any of us." She said, grabbing her napkin as she began playing with it. Her words surprised me, making both Amira and I stiffen as I couldn't believe she just said that. "What do you mean Kavi?" Nati asked, her attention now focused away from Alden. Kavi looked up at her, nervousness seeming to fill her as she realized everyone was watching her. "She is what we have been waiting for, what we needed." She said, suddenly glancing at Kaden as I realized he was staring at Amira intently. "Right Kaden? That's what you said last night." She said, causing Marcus to spit out his beer and begin choking. Kaden's face turned beet red, embarrassment filling him as he swallowed hard. "I.. that's not..I didn't mean." He sputtered as Marcus began laughing. I was pissed..is he f*****g serious?! What the hell is wrong with this guy..does he have a death wish or something? "Son, just quit while you're ahead..please." Namoka pleaded, causing everyone to laugh but me. I was glaring so hard at Kaden as I gripped Amira's thigh even tighter. She leaned over bringing her mouth to my ear before speaking. "He's just a kid, remember?" She added teasingly, making my eyes flash to hers, jealously filling me. My hand darted up gripping her face before kissing Amira roughly. "Mine." Arubos growled through me, causing Amira to laugh as she kissed me back. "Yes, I am yours Arubos..all yours." She appeased him, stroking not only my chest but my ego too as the mood lightened immensely. After calming down, we all began to drink and talk once more..well..everyone else was.. Kaden and I ended up engaging in some type of unofficial drink-off as we glared at one another from across the table. The night was still young and there was no f*****g way I would let him win..not now..I did feel bad for the kid at one point, but now not so much..freaking prick.
