Serenity was taking much longer in the restroom than Calloway and Leo had anticipated, and a quiet edge of worry was starting to settle between them.
“She should have been back by now,” Leo commented, turning his wrist to check his watch and frowning at the time that had slipped by.
“She probably just had a bit of a bowel movement,” the nurse offered pragmatically, keeping her tone professional.
“Even so, it’s been almost fifteen minutes,” Calloway responded, his protective instincts kicking in as he glanced toward the corridor she had taken.
