At the vicinity
That's what Alfred White had told her, reassuring her that her sister would be able to lodge at an apartment that he had kept for her at the vicinity, to care and fend for herself. Taking the huge responsibility of shouldering herself and her unborn baby, as per a tradition and a manner to help Nora grow mature
'Tsk tsk, utter nonsense!'
Alfred White was nothing more but a selfish scum who's life was filled with nothing more but benefits, leaving to be worshipped by others and carrying a heavy load called fame and reputation being a symbol of his entire life. Nothing mattered more to him than soaring in his career to be envied by others, as of life itself must give him the center of attention. Seeking the admiration wherever he stepped his foot with only one goal.
Conquer a high popularity, to be known by a great length of not common but influential people. And as for the number of commoners who began as his fans and admirators, they're nothing that met his eyes, but mere ants sticking to his side, a stepping stone to be known increase his influence and acknowledged by the the cream of the crop.
Auriane couldn't be bothered by those who lived for others, she...only had to live for herself. Not gaining anyone's attention was not a hollow that her life in completed, but a burden that could only slow down her progress of growth. In the past she had lived to receive other's acknowledgement and avoided every wrong step in order not be detested or looked on down by others.
Still, when she thought she had received everything, she lost it and not anyone who had once stood by her side took her part. Everyone dispersed from her side, as if she were a kind of plague that should be avoided at all cost, not daring to even breath the same air with her. She thought she had been famous, but it had just been her wishful thinking, granting life an opportunity to mock and step on her.
Why did no one stand by her side or even spare an effort to believe her?
She had also dwelled over that question, demanding to hear a single word of approval, a least bit of hope to show that those who once stood by her side in those times when she soared up, had been her companion, colleague and friend.
However, her questions never once received an answer but a sneer, a sound of mockery, jealousy and disdain. They never stopped by devouring her body with disdainful expressions, but ripping her heart with blades, heartlessly pulling away the ounce of strength and oxygen that could still keep her standing.
They said she was a friend, an amazing one who just needed a snap of finger to attend phoenix nirvana, only to be called...
'A Sparrow...
'She's nothing more but a sparrow who's trying to become a phoenix. Does she even deserve it, Miss Angel White is refined, beautiful, kind, pure and talented, while she a mere ugly duckling..."
Their sentence went barely half way before being accompanied by their Snickers, but just that unfinished sentence had caused her to have gastric. With her eyes turning more blurry due to the tears that were welling up, stinking and painful to the point of causing her tears.
However, she held it in, not because she couldn't cry or had her heart become numb from pain, she just had hopes that Alfred would save her. Afterall, she did receive his praise, not still indifferent and cold, it was that acknowledgement that had caused her to feel warm, warmth to be thrown deeper into an abyss of magma when she met him later.
'Father, you have to believe me. I really didn't use humans for experiment and...all the researched in the laboratory were all done by me, I...'
' Shut up!'
His thunderstorm voice caught her off guard, knocking into her sense with a hit, but what knock her sense back came forth with what he said next, breaking her world and stamping on it.
'Who are, do you deserve to call me father... you're not my daughter... you're nothing more but a stepping stone for my family, you owe me that..."
A debt?
She couldn't tell when she had accumulated such a huge debt for Alfred White, such that even her meager life was never enough to clear it up. And she thought he would one day turn towards her and looked at her with the same affectionate eyes he had for Angel. Soft and tender, delicate and innocent with sincere feelings. Portraying her in his life as a treasure and the reason why he soared up in his career. But she... who had never once given up, taking a risk of no return and carrying green eye bags due to fatigue. She who once disfigured herself, given up half of her life for his family. Still, she was only a stepping stone that was tossed away from the moment she was no longer of use to them.
Yes, a thing.
She had been their toy to play with, their steps to work on, their sacrificial lamb to feast and finally the worthless eyesore when they had drained her, living nothing but an empty shell.
Her heart had become numb to pain and totally void of an affectionate attachment. She knew nothing but man's selfishness and his greedy ambition to conquerconquer the world at the detriment of even his kin.
Auriane took a deep breath in order to suppress the obvious hatred that stood at the corner of her heart like a venomous snake, ready to attack anyone who stepped on its tail threatening its life.
Now she lived not to be acknowledged by others or crave over friendship, love or affection of others. She just wanted to build a life for herself and the only person who loved her and end her life in a peaceful home, right up to the highest building, where she could watch the world under her feet and give a sigh of satisfaction.
However, Auriane would never had imagined the surprises that life still had for her. Surprises that made her mock of her thoughts of lonely days on the highest peak of a sky scrapper to watch life over her feet. And when she would be asked, 'why are you laughing?', she would reply with...
'Nothing, I just think life is fun and mysterious.'
However, those weren't Auriane's current thoughts at present, she was still merely flashing back her pains and no gains when a pair of slender hands softly landed on her shoulder.
"You look lost, what are you thinking about?"
"Nothing."
Nora knew she wasn't being truthful with her words, hiding a deeper secret within her heart, yet she didn't want to probe any further, respecting her choice of a sealed lips. Perhaps she was hoping that Auriane would still confide in her when she finds herself ready to do so.
"He's trying to make things difficult for you."
Auriane didn't say who, but Nora was able to tell with much effort that she was talking about Alfred White.
' Who else but him?'
