“You know that if you broke one of the rules there will be a punishment, right? I told you that before when we first met”
“Y-yes. I am very sorry. I am sorry that I was not able to stop this feeling of mine”
I don’t know but I feel like I am about to cry. This should not be like this. I need to hold my tears back. No, No, No.
“Well, we cannot do anything about it anymore. All you need to do now is to face your consequences”
“Don’t worry, I will face it”
I am nervous but I don’t even have a choice. I don’t have any idea what I will be going to have but I need to be ready.
“Do you know what your punishment is?”
“No, Rafael”
“You’ll become human”

This is not good. I don’t want to be like them, powerless, sinful, weak. I have never imagined myself being like them. Human life sucks. They are not contented with what they already have. They are thriving to find their happiness but truly, it is hard to achieve. It is hard to achieve it especially if you are wanting more… more… and more. Humans are pathetic, they feel a lot of things and they face a lot of challenges in life. Most likely those challenges and problems that they are facing were caused by themselves also. Very foolish.
“Are you ready to become one of them?”
“R-rafael… is there anything else? I will do anything… but not that” I said to him with a pleading face. I feel like I want to kneel in front of him just not to have that kind of punishment.
“I know you don’t like to become a human. That is why it is your punishment.”
“B-but…”
“No buts. You told me that you will face the punishment of breaking the rules, right?”
“Y-yes.”
“Okay. So face it.”
He is very strict. He won’t let go of me that easily. I think even if I beg, he won’t even care. Rules are rules, and punishment is punishment. I need to accept it.
For a moment, my mouth just can’t say any word. I don’t know what to respond anymore. I really need to pay for what I have done. It will be difficult, but I have to.
“And, also, aside from you being a human. You also have a mission to do there”

“What is it?”
“Your mission is…”
“Thanatos? Thanatos wake up!”
I suddenly opened my eyes and jumped up from bed. I looked at my left side and I saw Nemesis. She seems so worried about me.
“Are you alright, Thanatos? You’ve been doing some weird noises when you were unconscious. I thought you are having a nightmare or something. You suddenly collapsed after eating an apple that I gave you earlier. I did not do anything to that apple that is why I am worried about what is happening to you”
“Nemesis, don’t worry” I grabbed her hand and move closer to her. “I am not having a nightmare, and, I believe you. I think I saw a part of my memories”
“Really? Do you already remember me?”
“No. But I remember talking to someone named...Rafael” when she heard the name, I saw her eyes widened all of a sudden.
“That is one of our bosses. Do you remember your mission now?” I saw the anticipation on her face. She even moves closer to me to listen to what I am going to say.
“No, you wake me up”
“What?! Then go back to sleep and I won’t bother you anymore” she quickly push me to the bed and let me lay on it again. She even pulls the blanket to cover me. She’s crazy.
“What? No! I can’t. I am not sleepy” I shove her away. I can’t go back to sleep especially when I just got up.
“I don’t care if you are not sleepy. YOU NEED TO SLEEP AND REMEMBER EVERYTHING”
“Nemesis, you know that you can’t push me to remember all of it in just one sleeping. Do you want me to sleep all day long?!”
She is being aggressive right now. Even if I want to remember too, I don’t think her idea won’t work like that.
“W-well… if we don’t have any choice, yes”
Really? This lady really? I wonder if she is really a friend of mine before? I want to remember something about her because I don’t think that we get along with each other. Maybe we always fight or something?
“What?! Listen Nemesis, before this thing happened, my head hurts, right? So I think that is somehow the sign that I will dream something that is part of my memories. Not just by sleeping alone. I think I will be having some headaches randomly. I don’t know when will be the next”
“s**t, why do they have to make it very complicated! Argh,” I saw her frustration as she walks out of the room. I don’t know who she is referring to, maybe that Rafael in my dreams? She said that Rafael is one of our bosses. Wait, I didn’t know that grim reapers have bosses. That is quite interesting.
I get out of my bed and I walk towards the window of this house. Nice view. Outside is a garden full of flowers. It is not that obvious that Nemesis loves plants huh. I can see that she likes roses. She has different colors of it outside.
Suddenly, I felt a strong wind hits me as the window suddenly opened. What is happening? Is this some kind of magic that Nemesis does?
“Thanatos…”
WHAT, WHO’S THAT?! I HEARD SOMEONE
It is a voice of a girl… and she whispered right through my ears. It gives me chills. I slowly look around and there is no one in this room. Why do I feel scared right now? As if I am in a horror movie or something?
“Nemesis… if you are doing this, it is not funny” I said, still looking around. I am looking for Nemesis, maybe she’s making fun of me or something. She is the only one I know that can move things without touching. Damn it, I feel scared right now. I am having goosebumps.
The wind is still strong as it enters the room. I feel very cold.
“Thanatos…”
I heard the voice again! I guess she is not too far away. I turned around, and when I look back at the window I was startled.
There is someone standing outside the window and she’s staring at me. I don’t know who she is! She has this very long straight hair and very pale skin. Is she a ghost?!
“Who are you?”
I asked but… she did not answer. She is just staring at me without any emotions on her face. Does she know me?
After a few seconds, she started to walk away. I move closer to the window to look where she is going. I can see now that she is wearing a white dress, but she’s barefoot. She is walking slowly while touching some flowers in the garden.
I am surprised because after she touched some flowers, they became wilted. WHAT IS SHE?
I immediately get out of the room and ran to the front door of this house. I want to follow her and ask her. It feels like she knows me. And from what I see, she also has powers, like Nemesis. So maybe she is one of us?
“And where do you think you are going Thanatos?”
Before I even opened the door, Nemesis caught me. So I stopped and I turn around to see her.
“By any chance, do you know someone who has very long straight hair and pale white skin?” after I asked her that, she seems to be thinking, more of remembering something. Then she moved closer to me.
“Of course I do”
“Really?”
“Yes. I have encountered a lot of people with that characteristics. Can you give me a little more description that is specific?”
“Uhm… she has some powers”
“Powers huh? So maybe you are referring to a spectral being? What is the color of her eyes?”
“Black”
“Black? There is no spectral being that has plain black eyes.”
I am shocked. I am sure about what I saw. She can wilt the flowers, she has powers but… she’s not a spectral being like us? Then what is she?
She knows me.
But I don’t remember her. Maybe we have encountered each other back then when I am still a grim reaper but… what exactly is she?
“Thanatos? Hey, what are you thinking? Are you imagining or something? Have you remembered anything?! Tell me”
She touched both of my shoulders and started to shake me now. Oh, come on. I am getting very dizzy right now, so I pushed her, to make her stop. Is she really trying to help me or kill me?!
“Nothing… never mind,” I said before I walk back to my room.
What is happening here? It confuses me. How I wish I can remember everything.
I am encountering a lot of things lately that I don’t even understand.
Why is it so difficult?
This punishment or whatever it is… I am really having a hard time.
And the thing is… I don’t even remember what I have done to have this kind of punishment. What rule did I break?
Do I really deserve to suffer like this?
