NINA’S POV His cold glare made me tremble. My palms were sweaty, my fingers curling into themselves as I stood frozen at the foot of the hospital bed. Dad’s eyes didn’t blink. They didn’t move. They were locked on me, empty yet accusing, like he was trapped behind them, screaming without a voice. His head was wrapped in thick white bandages, stained faintly with dried blood. Machines hummed softly beside him, the sound drilling into my skull. I swallowed hard. Then the doctor’s voice broke into my ears. “We were able to resuscitate him,” he said carefully. “But the fall caused a severe shock to his brain.” I barely heard him. All I could see were Dad’s eyes. “I’m sorry,” the doctor continued, “he’s currently in a paralyzed state.” Mum gasped beside me. But I… I was still rooted
