"No! But, I knew just like I had to prove my worth and that I was better alive than dead in order to buy myself some time. I knew I could not just say he was in love with another woman and didn’t have any interest in me because of it. As much as I believe my cousin loves me, it is still very much a man’s world and double standards apply. I knew, given all the facts, it was up to me to create the narrative that best worked for me using those same facts. " I said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"So tell me what your plan was exactly. If we had not shown up, since you didn’t want anything from him, not even to retain his last name." Alpha Brett asked, looking at me like he was trying to judge my sincerity.
"I don't care about money and power. Money honestly doesn't buy happiness. Maybe if he had attempted to be my friend and treated me better, not like a caged bird. I would have stayed in that miserable pack and not made a fuss. I actually own a small business and I make a decent living from it. I was going to go live in the human world and try to have a peaceful and drama-free life. I planned to buy a small house and plant some roots." I informed them.
"So you would have really made it harder for me to find you? I rarely, these days, mingle amongst the humans. I am one hundred and thirty-five years old, and I have been looking for you for a long time. I am glad I never gave up on you." revealed Alpha Brett, smiling at me tenderly.
"I never dared to dream that finding you was even possible, since my fate was sealed from birth even if I didn’t want it to be." I confessed sadly as I allowed tears of joy to flow. "I’m so glad you came today and I will try my best to make you happy." I pledged smiling at him.
"What kind of business do you run?" asked Beta Peter curiously.
" I run a very profitable human bookkeeping and medical billing company. I have ten employees that work from home in various states all over the country. I have nine employees that work in our main headquarters. " I confessed looking at my mate for a negative reaction, because I knew most Alphas didn't want their mates to work outside the pack. However, he didn't show any.
"I promise to make you happy as well and support you! I don't want a prisoner or a Stepford wife! I want a true companion and partner." responded Alpha Brett, holding my hand as we continued our drive to the airport. I was truly overjoyed by hearing those words come out of his mouth.
"So one more question if I may. Have you not had your first heat?" probed Brett as I blushed a little at his question.
"Chamomile, Spearmint, Lemongrass, Dandelions and African Violets mixed together daily will keep a heat away. I was determined not to let that awful Beta Ross ever touch me. I didn't want to have my first heat cycle be ruined with images of that man forever embedded in my brain cells. Beta Ross was supposedly assigned to help me when that time came around. The bad part is, once I stop taking the concoction, my heat will come fast and strong. Plus, it will last much longer than a normal heat cycle." I answered, showing my obvious dislike for Beta Ross and fear of his possible reaction to my words.
Both men busted out laughing and Beta Peter said “You just explained a lot! Beta Ross was a little too invested in keeping you in the pack, especially if your leaving really benefited his beloved sister."
"I will need some time in order to ensure you have my undivided attention. Give me at least two weeks to clear my calendar and rearrange things. Are we talking about two weeks or a full month of a heat cycle?" asked Brett, looking nervous and excited at the same time.
"I am not sure. I don't have a magic crystal ball with all the answers. Every she-wolf is different, and their bodies will respond differently to the substance no longer being in their systems. It is believed to be a timeframe from two weeks to a full month." I answered honestly.
They both just shared a look and just took a deep breath.
