Sandra was a little lost, feeling guilty for the harsh words she had had with her Mother before she packed her bags and left. We all were confused by Mother's behavior. She may have been mean to us, but never to Sandra, which made no sense. Now that we are told about her head issues, it makes more sense, but it does not excuse her completely. She hurt all of us with her bitterness, and now the girls are feeling guilty for retaliating; I, for one, do not.
Mother had always favored the twins, and that is why they feel worse off than I do.
