Chapter 4
Another week passed by in a flash for Margot, and things with Ethan weren’t getting any better. Anytime he would try to be intimate with her, whether it was a hug, a kiss, or even something more physical, Margot would feel pain in her chest. She started to notice she would only feel the pain whenever she and Ethan would become physical. Although Margot was waiting to lose her virginity until her wedding night with Ethan, since their wedding had been postponed, Ethan had been trying to coax Margot into giving up her virtue.
“Ethan, you promised you would wait!?” Margot cried out. Ethan had tried again to get Margot into bed, but she adamantly refused. Ethan flew into a fit of rage. He was tired of waiting, and since her STD panel had come back clean, he knew she was still pure.
“How much longer do you expect me to wait, dammit!? It’s been years!” Ethan roared and threw a pillow at her face. Even though it didn’t physically hurt, just the act alone made Margot burst into tears. Ethan had been becoming increasingly rough and aggressive with his words, and now, with his actions. Margot could no longer claim that he wasn’t ab*sive.
“You promised,” was all Margot could whisper as tears fell from her eyes. She had no idea who the man in front of her was anymore.
“And you said you loved me.”
“I do!” Margot exclaimed as she snapped her head up to look at him in shock that he would insinuate otherwise.
“If you did, you wouldn’t force me to wait any longer. Especially since our original wedding night has long passed!” Ethan said.
“That’s not fair, Ethan! That’s emotional manipulation!” Margot defended and became angry.
“And you forcing me to keep waiting is what? Poetic?”
“Ethan! Why are you acting as if …” Margot paused when something suddenly dawned on her. “Oh my God, you’re cheating on me.”
“What? Where do you get off asking me that!?!”
“I’m not asking, Ethan. I know you are. That’s the only reason why you’re acting like this. Since you can’t get any from me, you’ve been getting it from someone else. That car from the other week. Who was that, Ethan!?” Margot thundered.
“Don’t raise your voice at me, Margot! Know you’re f*cking place!”
“KNOW MY PLACE!?” Margot screamed at the top of her lungs. “HOW ABOUT YOU KNOW YOURS!” Margot demanded and blasted him with her telekinetic powers into the wall behind him. There was a hole the size of Ethan’s body after he collided with it.
“HOW DARE YOU USE YOUR POWERS ON ME!?” Ethan hollered, summoned his wand, and shot a light bolt at her. Margot effectively dodged it.
“Ethan, don’t test me. You may be more powerful than I am when it comes to sheer strength, but my family line created our coven, and with Max and Stuart part of the Wiccan council in Vegas, you don’t want me to get them involved.” Ethan scowled at Margot and turned away. Margot thought he was conceding, but she was horribly mistaken. Ethan blasted her with another round of lightning bolts, and unfortunately, they came in such fast succession that Margot wasn’t able to block them all and was hit by a few.
“Ah!” Margot cried out when she was burned several times. “STOP IT, ETHAN!” Margot cried out and raised a force field around herself. Ethan continued to attack her with his magic, and Margot had no other choice but to recite a spell that would teleport her to the only place she could be safe. “Take me away, don’t let me stay. Transfer me to a safe space, teleport me to my sister’s place!” Margot disappeared in an instant. Ethan roared in frustration. He wouldn’t be able to follow her because Max and Stuart had banned him from their home.
“Margot!?” Max shouted when her sister landed in their living room.
“Holy sh*t!” Stuart shouted.
“Max, help me,” Margot whimpered and collapsed on the floor.
“Orson!” Max shouted. “Orson! We need you!”
“You called?”
“Margot!” Max pointed at her sister.
“Oh, f*ck!” Orson exclaimed and knelt to heal Margot.
“I guess having an on-call shaman isn’t so bad after all,” Stuart sighed in relief, seeing that Orson was healing Margot. After a few agonizing seconds, Margot’s eyes opened, and she jumped up in horror, seeing an unknown man in front of her.
“Whoa! Whoa! It’s just Orson, Margot,” Max quickly calmed her sister.
“Or—Orson?” Margot asked and looked again. When she saw it was their coven’s new shaman, she relaxed and fell to the ground again, but this time, it was from the adrenaline in her system fading.
“Margot, sweetie, what happened?” Max asked as she knelt next to her sister.
“Ethan and I got into a heated fight. I think he’s cheating on me,” Margot answered.
“I could have told you that,” Orson commented. Margot looked up at him in shock. “What? Everyone knows that he’s cheating on you.”
“What do you mean by everyone?” Margot asked. Orson flicked his head to Max and Stuart. Max looked at her sister with sympathy. “You knew?”
“I suspected. Letty is the one who told me.”
“Letty know, too!?” Margot shouted.
“Fernando is the one who told her, and then she told me.”
“Fer!? Letty’s boyfriend!?” Margot questioned. Max nodded. “How does he know that Ethan has been cheating on me?!”
“He caught him in the act.”
“Then why didn’t they tell me!?”
“Would you have believed them?” Stuart asked from the couch. Margot wanted to respond immediately, but when she thought about it, she knew she wouldn’t have. Not without solid proof.
“No, I guess not,” Margot admitted and leaned back against Max for support. “What do I do?”
“Leave him, duh!” Max answered.
“But I love him!”
“Are you serious right now? How can you say that when you just learned he’s been cheating on you for god knows how long? More so, he just physically hurt you with his powers!”
“I hurt him first,” Margot tried to justify Ethan’s actions. “I blasted him into the wall.”
“Why?” Stuart stoically asked.
“Because I realized that he might be cheating and got angry.”
“Okay, then you’re actions are warranted.”
“But so are his, then, too. He was defending himself.”
“No, no, no, no, sweetheart,” Max quickly nipped Margot’s delusion in the bud. “Sending one or two lightning bolts at you is self-defense. Sending enough to where you can’t block them and burning you several times, to the point where you had to teleport yourself to my house, knowing he can’t follow you, you knew deep down he was trying to kill you.” Max’s words hit a sore spot for Margot, and she burst into tears. Max told the guys to leave them, and she cradled Margot until she fell asleep from exhaustion.
Stuart, being the overly protective brother-in-law that he was, placed a protection spell around their house that only someone with his DNA could break. Even though Ethan wasn’t permitted in their home without explicit permission, Stuart didn’t want to take any chances when it came to his family.
Max stayed awake all night watching Margot sleep, since Margot was prone to night terrors in times of great stress.
“How is she?” Stuart came over to her and asked, handing her a cup of coffee.
“She’s stirred a bit, but nothing too bad, yet,” Max replied and sipped the coffee. “Thank you, honey.”
“Anything for you, honey,” Stuart responded and kissed the top of her head.
“What are we going to do about Ethan?” Max asked.
“There’s nothing we can do unless Margot wants us to. Our laws follow the same stipulations as mortals. If she doesn’t make a formal complaint against him, we can’t do anything to him.”
“You’re joking me,” Max gasped. Stuart shook his head to signal that he wasn’t. “You know as well as I do, once she calms down enough, she’ll find some stupid reason to defend that prick, and then go back to him. It’s a vicious cycle with her.”
“If only we can get her to see that how Ethan treats her isn’t normal. I mean, she sees how I am with you, and she thinks that’s how Ethan is with her,” Stuart started.
“That’s because he excessively love bombs her. He’s controlling and manipulative. But she refuses to see it.”
“Hopefully, now that she knows he’s no longer pure and is being unfaithful, that will change her stance on their relationship,” Stuart stated, hopefulness in his tone.
“I wouldn’t bet on that,” Max retorted.
“Wishful thinking?” Stuart asked, and Max nodded. “I have to be up early for work, honey, so I’m going to sleep. Call me if you need anything.”
“Okay, honey. Goodnight.”
“Are you going to be okay?”
“Yeah. I’ll call Brandon tomorrow and let him know that I can’t make it in due to a family emergency.”
“Are you going to tell him what happened?”
“No. Why would I?” Max questioned and c*cked her head in confusion.
“Well, he knows who Margot is now. And it’s their pack member that was mated to her. Maybe letting him know wouldn’t be such a bad thing,” Stuart suggested.
“How is telling them what happened here tonight going to help Margot?”
“Maybe Miranda making that Fury guy and your sister mates wasn’t a mistake. And I think pushing Margot to understand how the mate bond works with a werewolf would help her see that Ethan doesn’t love her as much as she thinks he does.”
“Because werewolves truly love their mates more than their own lives,” Max concluded. Stuart nodded. “Let me see if I can convince Margot in the morning.” Stuart nodded again and went to bed. Max stayed awake all night watching over her sister and prayed to their Wiccan goddess to help open Margot’s mind to see that being mated to Fury wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all.
