(Johnny's Pov)
We all looked at the boy who came running into the farm. He had his hood up and another guy was following him. They were screaming at each other and the one boy was crying. Wait? Is that the gothic boy we saw today? Yeah it is, I can see his spiked hair. David and Gabe came running out and said, "Rain? Max? What are you guys doing here?" My jaw dropped at him calling the boy Rain. Since when does Rain look like that?! Rain shook his head and just ran inside and Max ran in after him. David sighed and Gabe shook his head. "Sorry about that," David said.
"What was that about?" Cherry said. She was sitting on the fence with all the other cheerleaders.
"That was our son and his boyfriend, they appear to be having a fight, I'm sure they'll work it out," Gabe said.
We all nodded and then David said, "We need one of you guys to help unload some hay at the barn. You, come here." He pointed at me and I walked up to him. He led me to the tractor and we got in. He started it up and started driving down the field with some horses racing us. "So, how have you been, Johnny?"
I looked at him shocked and said, "How'd you know it was me?" He chuckled and shook his head.
"I've known you since you were little. I would recognize you from a mile away," he said. I smiled and nodded. "So are you going to answer my question or not?"
"I've been good, how about you?" I said. He sighed and shook his head.
"I'm hanging in there." I nodded and bit my lip.
"And Rain? How's he been?" I asked. He shrugged and turned right.
"He's doing. . .better I think. He's changed since you left," David said.
"Changed? Like changed how?" I said nervously.
"Well, you saw his new look but don't get me wrong, he's still the sweetest boy ever," he said.
I smiled and nodded, thinking about how nice he is. There was this one time he was being bullied every time we would go into town and he would never fight back. And when I went to fight he would always pull me away. I always thought he was crazy for not fighting or defending himself. But one day, the kid was being extra mean and instead of doing anything, Rain just went over and hugged him. The kid broke down crying and when he let go of the boy he came over to me and whispered, "He bullies us because he gets bullied at home." I was shocked at how he knew that and every time I went to ask him he would change the subject. I smiled at the memory and was snapped out of it when David stopped. I looked up and saw the barn with a couple horses in it. I got out and went over to Sully's stall and saw a beautiful little black and white colt.
"Awe! Who's this little guy?" I asked.
David chuckled and said, "That's Rain's little colt. He named him Ying Yang. He's a sweet little guy." I nodded and put my hand out. He got up and sniffed my hand and neighed at me. He's so adorable. "So, get those bails of hay and put one in each of the horses stall. I'll spread the hay out for their bedding," he said. I nodded and did as I was told. After we were done we got into the tractor and David said, "So, are you going to talk to Rain?" I sighed and ran a hand through my hair.
"I don't know. . ." I said. He smiled at me.
"Well, he's going to notice you and let me tell you, he wasn't too happy about you forgetting about him when you moved," David said. I bit my lip and looked down.
"I didn't forget about him. . .I just was busy."
"For four years?" he said and raised an eyebrow at me. I shook my head no and sighed.
"I feel terrible," I said.
"Don't be, you can patch things up with him if you want to. Now, let's get back for dinner." I nodded and we started driving back to the house. Once we were there I saw everyone going inside and we followed them. There were twenty plates of spaghetti on the table and everyone was sitting down. I sat down next to Andy and he smiled at me. Gabe came in and smiled at David.
"Rain and Max made up," Gabe said. David smiled and nodded. They sat down and there were two seats left.
(Rain's Pov)
"I think dinner is ready," Max said. I groaned and snuggled into him more. We were just snuggling on my bed while watching TV.
"I don't want to go, there's people down there," I whined.
He chuckled and said, "I'll protect you from the people." I giggled and kissed his cheek.
"Thanks, alright let's go," I said and got up. We went downstairs and went into the dining room where everyone looked at us. Well, everyone except this one Jock kid. He just looked down and whispered something to the kid next to him. I felt my anxiety start to make my stomach hurt so I quickly walked over to the chair next to Daddy and Max followed me.
"Hey guys," Daddy said.
I smiled at them and said, "Hi."
"Guys, this is my son Rain and his boyfriend Max," Dad said.
They all nodded at us and one girl with red hair said, "Why are all the hot ones gay?!" Everyone started laughing and Max smiled at me. I blushed and sunk down in my seat and ate my food.
"Cherry! You're dating me!" one guy said.
"I know, Justin. I was just pointing out that every hot guy is gay," she said innocently. Justin rolled his eyes and continued eating his food. After dinner we all went back outside and Max had to go home.
I hugged him and he said, "Love you, baby, I'll see you later."
I smiled and said, "Love you, too." He kissed my head and started walking home.
I turned to my dad's who said, "Do you mind going riding with some of the students?" I smiled and shook my head no.
"I'll go riding, with who?" I asked. A few girls raised their hands and one girl whispered to a boy and he raised his hand.
"Come on, Johnny, go with us." the boy said.
Johnny glanced at me and said, "No, I think I'll stay behind." He looks sort of familiar. . .
"Come on, bro, it will be fun!" he said. Johnny rolled his eyes and sighed.
"Fine." They came up to us and I led them to the four wheeler.
"So, what's all of your names?" I asked.
"I'm Cassidy."
"I'm Shay."
"And I'm Reba," the girls said.
I looked at the guys and they said, "I'm Andy and that's Johnny." I smiled at them and got on the four wheeler.
"Okay, I'll be right back with the horses," I said. They nodded and I started riding to the barn. I got Sully, Ruby, Lolly pop, Diamond, Milo, and Otis out. I put on their saddles and everything and got on Sully.
"Alright, Sully, wanna race back there?" I asked him. He breathed out of his nose and I laughed. "I'll take that as a yes." I smiled when Ruby stepped up to us and I could tell she was ready. "Alright, come on Sully!" I said and he started running back to the house. Ruby was running and all the other horses were racing us, too. I smiled a little when we passed Ruby and Sully stopped when he saw the people.
Cassidy looked at Sully and said, "Woah. . .that's a pretty horse."
I laughed a little and said, "I know, alright pick your horses and I'll tell you the names." Johnny went right over to Ruby and I looked at him oddly. Ruby was a brown and white painted horse and usually gets last picked because she's not pretty enough. I honestly hate when people say that because she's a very pretty and sweet horse. Cassidy went over to Diamond, Andy went over to Otis, Shay went to Lolly pop, and Reba went over to Milo. I told them each of their names and I went over to Shay first. "Do you know how to get on a horse?" She shook her head no and I nodded. I told her how and when she got up there she looked really nervous.
"What if I fall off?" she asked.
"Well try to land in the grass and it won't hurt as much. But for real, it really won't be that bad unless you hit your head. So don't worry too much," I said. She smiled and nodded. I did the same to every other person until I got to Johnny who was already on his horse looking bored yet sad at the same time.
"I suspect you already know how to ride?" I asked. He smiled a little and nodded. And that's when it hit me. . .he chose Ruby, he looks familiar, and he know how to ride. I know this Johnny, he used to be my best friend. "Johnny?" I whispered. He bit his lip and nodded. And that's when all hell broke loose. . .
