Chapter 58: Something Important
Matthew was surprised at the number of people that had crowded onto the straight, narrow road. Before everything happened, before the power went out and the lights went dark, this was an infrequently used stretch of road with nothing but cornfields on either side. Now the fields were overgrown with hay and dotted with tents and other homemade shelters. The road itself was lined with tables, booths, and sheets spread on the ground. People were animated and happy, like they were enjoying a flea market on a Sunday, not a post-apocalyptic survival market on… he had no idea what day it was any more.
