Caius was usually aware of my presence before I arrived - I knew now that it was down to his senses and that was something I was finally growing used to myself. When I caught him checking the wound in the large polished bronze mirror hanging on one of the walls of his room, I realized that his senses were not as sharp as they usually were; he would never have allowed me to see him examining the injury that way, and when he caught sight of me in the mirror he pulled his hand away sharply and covered his shoulder again.
