Chapter 15

Rylee POV

I was pissed he was here, I was pissed he came to save me. Why couldn't he leave me alone? Did he bring Lauren with him when I'm sure my brother called him to help find me? But why did she leave with my brother? Didn't matter. I'm still pissed and hurt and all emotions flowing through me. He didn't look at me when he asked about the wolf, just kept looking at the pics on the board. "this one is my favorite." He said pointing to one. I limped over and it was me and my ex best friend smiling big, soaking wet from watching a football game in the rain our freshman year. I had a small smile that faded into a frown. "It used to be mine too." I limped away and sat back on my bed. "So this wolf?" He asked again. "Why does it matter?" he sat in front of me. "Cause I'm the alpha to this pack and I know every wolf here, so I probably know who it was that visited you. So tell me who it is." I felt angry at his tone. "again why does it matter?" I challenged him. "cause I'm supposed to protect you. Keep you safe and unharmed. The running off you did tonight could have killed you and in turn hurt me. I cant protect my pack if you are hurt or dead." He ended up yelling. I was a little afraid but also still angry at him. "Again Aiden why does it matter? I'm just a human." I pressed on there was something he wasn't telling me.

"Cause you're my mate." he said softly. My body got shivers and butterflies I have no clue why though. "what's a mate?" he kept his head down not saying anything. I scooted closer and put both my hands on the side of his face. This was the first time I've ever touched him. I lifted his face to look at me. "Tell me." he sighed. "A mate is what we call our soulmates. The moon goddess finds you someone who will complete your soul. Together we are whole. You are mine. When we find our mate we want nothing else in this world but to be with them and to love them, protect them forever. If one dies it breaks the heart and soul of the living. Some even lose theirs wolves because of it. If you would have been hurt tonight or even killed, I wouldn't be able to be an alpha. You are my other half." He said staring right into my soul. "But I'm not a wolf." he shook his head taking my hands from his face in his. "It doesn't matter, the moon goddess picked you for a reason to be mine." he whispered as his thumb lightly grazed over my knuckles. To say I was shocked is an understatement.

"I don't know what to do with that information." I said gently trying to pull my hands away. I looked at my alarm clock and new it was near the time that the other wolf was going to be here. I wanted to talk to him about all this. "Can you please leave? Ryder will be home soon, he'll take care of me." I asked not looking at him. "But.." I put my hand up. "Please. A lot has happened plus that information you just gave me. I need time to process it. I'll call you tomorrow. I promise." I say and put my hand on his to let him know I will. "Fine but if he isn't home in 30 min call me and I'm coming back." I nodded. I wouldn't call him tonight even if Ryder didn't come home. He leaned in and kissed my forehead. It was a soft kiss that took me by surprise but I didn't move, I know he needed that more than me. "goodnight beautiful, if you feel tired and Ryder fell asleep also, please call me." He left closing my bedroom door. I sat there and waited a few more min before deciding to go look down stair to see if he was still there. he wasn't.

I called Ryder and asked how long he would be, He was having fun at Laurens getting to know her so I told him I'd be ok for a few hours but would probably need him before the night ended to keep me awake. I put on a sweater and waited by the back door. Not long the wolf came back. I stood and closed the door and walked toward him. He sat on his hind legs and looked at me. Something was different he looked sad. "I'm glad you came I need your advice. Are you ok? you look sad." he nodded his head. "I probably should only ask one question at a time if you can only nod or shake your head. Are you sad." He nodded again. "Oh um would you like a hug?" He stood and shook his tail. I stepped forward and he sat back down and I wrapped my arms around his neck hugging a giant wolf. I started to giggle. "Sorry there's a lot of things I don't think id ever do in my life and hugging a giant wolf is one." He made a snort noise which I'm assuming was a wolf laugh. He laid down and like last time I sat with my back to his side as his tail wrapped around me.

"You know the alpha here? Well he just told me I'm his mate and I don't know how to feel. I don't know how the mates all work and ill need to ask more questions but after today, I don't know if I can do; Be with him. The guys I dated in high school were just kind of there, they didn't mean anything to me. Only one really hurt me and Aiden reminds me of him. I'm scared to get hurt again. Watching these girls flirt with him was annoying and I don't know why. Besides that other guy no one ever got to me like that. I ran away today, well kind of. I was coming home and got hurt. But he was there to save me, it was nice. As soon as I saw him I knew I was going to be ok and whatever it was that was following wasn't going to hurt me. Can you tell me more about mates? I feel comfortable with you, and I think if I was to hear about it from you I could make a better judgment on if I want to be with him or not." I turned to look at him. All he did was blink, put his head down and give it a slight shake. "Oh" I said and nodded understanding. He stood and turned to leave. "You don't have to leave yet, I like sitting with you its relaxing. Will you stay little longer? My brother isn't home, he wont be home for a few hours." he nodded and sat again next to me with his tail wrapped around me. Minutes passed as we sat in the silence of the night with millions of stars staring at us. I felt my eyes closing and was able to startle myself awake. "I should go in now, I cant fall asleep." I said standing. "Will you come back tomorrow? I want to ask you questions, will you speak with me in your human form?" He nodded and I couldn't help but smile and hug this giant wolf. "Thank you." I whispered in his ear before I pulled away and headed inside. He waited till the door was hut and locked before heading back into the forest.

Ryder still wasn't home, "guess I should call Aiden, I know I cant fall asleep."
