Devon sat beside Naomi’s hospital bed, watching her sleep. He was grateful that the heart attack she had experienced two days ago was relatively mild, and the doctors had her sedated, in an attempt to keep her calm. Despite his best efforts, even attempting to bribe the police, Ruth was still missing, and his heart felt like it was going to break in two.
He had managed to get back to the UK in just under 12 hours after Charlotte had told him that Ruth had been taken, and his aunt was on the floor clutching her chest. It was the longest journey of his life, one he never wanted to repeat.
