Chapter 1

1255 Words
My life was forever changed due to my erratic teenage emotions. so long ago now it seemed. That fiery wounded girl wouldn't recognize me now, there was no comparison. I hadn't been human in years, how I lingered at the thought of it. That awful bone chilling night was the last memory I would ever have of my mortality. I closed my eyes and saw the memory as if it had happened yesterday. And I saw all the darkness that fell over me afterwards, the story of how I got to this forsaken place. I saw it all so clearly. It was a cold rainy night as I sped down the two lane freeway. I was not angry but I was hurt and it  consumed me. I sped down the highway, the rain hitting my car, it was pouring rain. Thunder roared loudly around me, but I paid no attention. I had never been a loving or caring person and I did not get along with others very well. I was alone and I thrived in my solitude. I liked it that way, no friends no drama, no boys no broken hearts. I lived by those words almost my entire life. In the end we are only human, fragile creatures, so as one can guess I succumbed to social acceptance.  I somehow  managed to snag a best friend through the years, I must admit I did enjoy her company although she was much more reserved and quiet. My junior year of high school brought more change, I met a boy who sparked a light in me like never before. Shortly after I was living a normal teenage life as a senior in high school with a best friend and boyfriend. I was doing just fine, I was doing exactly what was expected. Then all of that came to a screeching halt, my life took a sharp turn into the dark abyss. Humans have faults, Logan and Kenna were no exception. So here I was in a teenage love triangle that was never made known to me until a few hours ago. I was that girl who's boyfriend had slept with her best friend, how cliche. I wished them both dead, I wish them horrible things, but most of all I wished they would just disappear.     Shock didn't even describe it, I was hurt but beyond that I felt stupid. Stupid that I even allowed him into my life, that I even allowed my self to feel anything for him. I imagined a future with him, my heart was beating out of my chest, how could he of done this to me and why, how could she?! I let out a loud frustrated scream. In the course of a few hours my life had fallen apart into a million pieces. Given my mental state I probably should not have been driving that night, I was livid all I saw was bright red.     Then it happened, as I sped down the wet highway, something very frightening occured. I hit something hard, it went over my car and landed at the back of the car. I braked hard, snapping back into reality. What was that? I took several deep breaths before I looked at the rear view mirror. A figure stood up, I began to panic. It was a man, he was staggering towards the road. I had hit someone! This was bad, really bad. I opened my door and stepped out into the pouring rain. My heart was beating fast, what if I had mortally injured him? The man staggered towards me, I held my arms out and he fell into them. “Are you ok, do you need an ambulance?!' I said as I reached for my phone. I couldn't find it, it was in the car. I held the man as he coughed and limped. In seconds we were both soaked from head to toe. “ I need to call for help, sit down I need to get my phone,” I let him down, then I ran to my car. “No! Please no cops. Help me home and I wont report any of this.” The man stood up by himself, shaken but aware of the situation. “But you are hurt you need medical assistance!” I shouted over the loud rain.     "I feel fine just shaken, take me home and I will be OK.” He took a deep breath, He was short and stocky with long unkempt hair, a long filthy beard clung to his wet shirt. He was dressed in all black with only a light jacket on him. There was no blood or broken bones from what I could see "Um Okay, okay. At least tell me your name." He stumbled one more time, he regained his balance and said, "Amus." He looked at me, a crooked smile appeared across his face. It sent goosebumps down my neck.     "Well then Amus, Lets get you in the car. I still think you need to go to the hospital but if you are sure you don't need to then I will take you home." His crooked smile hadn't faded. We walked to the car and I helped him get in. I took several deep breaths before I turned the car on. He smelled of alcohol reminding me of the vagabonds in the city. I should have taken him to the hospital but I was not in a state of mind to make any decisions. "Where to?" I finally said. "Not far, take the next exit then turn right onto the dirt path." His voice was raspy and deep.     "This is so crazy, I can't believe that just happened. I am so sorry." My adrenaline was finally fading and rationality was coming back. He tried to laugh but coughed instead. "What were you doing out there anyway? And in the middle of the road." For the first time since I hit him, I realized how strange it was for someone to be out there alone, with no car. I hadn't seen any cars pulled over to the side of the road. Maybe his car got stuck in the woods. Dammit I always let my emotions get the best of me. I caused this because of my erratic behavior. Maybe his car was up head broken down, but then why would he ask me to take him home instead of his car? I felt goosebumps down my arms and legs, I should have called the police. I Should still call the police, I wont get in trouble right?  "Not that it is any of your business, and I really should not be the one answering questions but if you must know I was out hunting." I looked over at him, he definitely did not have any type of hunting gear on nor did I see a gun when I got out of car to check on him. Maybe it was thrown into the woods when I hit him? I came to the exit, I turned right into the dirt path. It was so dark I could barely see through the windshield, there was mud everywhere.     "Right. What were you hunting."      He turned to look at me, "You!" he yelled. He took a club out of his jacket and before I could cover my head he began to hit me.  My phone where is my fucking phone! It had fallen somewhere in the car. I heard a crackling sound then everything went black
