Melina’s POV
I backed away from the stranger, but didn’t turn my back on him. One so-called mate has already hurt me. I can’t sign up for it again. Not when I’m finally in a good place. I’m not healed. I’m not entirely over Trevor, but I’m better every day. I think my backing away from him had hurt him. I don’t know why, as it was all over his face that he was about to reject me. If that was the case, why shouldn’t I be with my family to have them support me through it?
Isa stepped between us, without hesitation. She didn’t know who he was either, but we could both tell his scent was different. We knew he wasn’t from this pack, and that was enough for us to be cautious. With a sinking heart, I realized this man was likely the attorney who would help us with the new contract.
