I wake up with a start. My hands automatically search for Deni in the bed. I breathe a sigh of relief as I find him lying right next to me. I breathe in his scent, calming myself.
Shit…my heart hammers in my chest.
It was only a nightmare, I think to myself as I pull him close. He moans, snuggling into me. I hold him close as I relive the nightmare – feeling every devastating emotion like it happened for real. Things didn’t go as planned in the nightmare and I lost him.
