Eduarda can't help it. She simply approaches Erick and holds his gigantic hand with sharp claws. She is so small and delicate next to the Lycan that Joshua gasps in horror.
Erick releases Betany, who is nearly dead, the moment he feels a weak electric current run through his hand, and when he turns, there she is, looking with those green eyes without a hint of fear in her expression, and all his anger vanishes like magic. For a moment, Erick thinks she could be his mate, but he can't smell her, and the electric current he felt is nothing like what was explained to him. Although he feels a strange attraction to her, it's not the irresistible pull it should be if she were his mate.
Pulling his hand away from hers, he says to Joshua through the link:
“Go back with them. I'm going to run to the academy from here,” and he takes off, disappearing into the forest.
Joshua starts breathing again and says out loud:
“But what's going on here?”
This snaps Eduarda back to reality, and she realizes what she did moments ago, starting to tremble.
Gaby wears an enigmatic expression but says nothing.
At that moment, Betany groans on the ground, and Joshua remembers her and what she did to his sister.
“You despicable creature, Erick may have let you live, but I certainly won't, and when I'm done with you, I'll go after your disgusting mother,” he says with the blue eyes of his wolf.
Eduarda then places herself between her brother and Betany.
“Please, Joshy, I don't want you to become a murderer, please can we just leave this behind and forget they exist?”
“Forget? How can I forget after seeing what they did to you?”
"Now I'm here, so please do this for me, she doesn't deserve for you to dirty your hands with her," Eduarda says and pulls Joshua away from there, he still casts a look of hatred at Betany, as a warning that this wouldn't end like this but follows his sister.
Later, their uncle paces back and forth in a fury, wondering how he hadn't suspected. He promised his brother he would take care of the nephews, and he loves them as if they were his own children, but with the return of Hercules, the work as the kingdom's guard has taken up more and more time, and this has cost Eduarda dearly.
“Alright, I'll do what you asked, Eduarda, for now,” he says, referring to her request for him to leave Betany alone.
Looking at his niece, he can't help worrying. She was pure and innocent, kind and delicate, he feared what the academy might cost her.
As if reading his thoughts, Joshua says:
“Erick agreed to help protect her; I doubt anyone would dare challenge him.”
This reassures Pedro a little, who says:
“We'd better go and let Eduarda rest, tomorrow is going to be a very important day for her,” and kissing the top of Eduarda's head, he leaves the room.
Joshua gives his sister another hug and says:
“From now on, I've got your back.”
Eduarda is left alone with her thoughts. First, she had that strange dream, then she acted like that, holding the monster prince's hand while he was transformed into his lycan.
Sighing, she remembers the dream and the image of the trapped she-wolf haunts her, and her mother's words come to her mind, is it really time to take off the necklace?
She had never taken off the necklace since her mother put it on her, it had become part of her.
She lies down, and without realizing it, her thoughts drift to Erick, and his dark, pain-filled eyes.
Now that she knew him, she couldn't deny feeling a bit sorry for him, it must be horrible to know that the person we love is suffering.
When she thinks of love, the image of Gaby with her golden curls comes to mind, and she can't suppress a smile, and thus she falls asleep, dreaming of golden curls and mysterious dark eyes.
The next morning, Betany avoids contact with Eduarda, Joshua, and Pedro, sticking close to Trevan who has no idea what happened the day before. She is also wearing a scarf wrapped around her neck to hide the marks left by Erick. Generally, wolves healed quickly, but apparently, this did not apply to wounds caused by lycans.
A van takes them towards Forks. Eduarda, who initially brought only a small suitcase, now had eight large ones, which further irritated Betany. They didn't stop in Forks but went straight to the dense forest.
Three hours later, they stopped at a place where the van could go no further; the rest of the journey had to be completed on foot, and the luggage would be transported by river to the academy.
Trevan started to complain, because they couldn't transform and thus run in their wolf forms to the royal pack where the academy was located deep in the forest, since Eduarda couldn't transform, making everyone have to walk with her, and a journey that could be done in half an hour by a wolf turned into a two-hour walk.
When they finally arrive, it's incredible and almost unbelievable that such a place exists in the middle of the forest, with paved streets, houses, small shops, and cafes, all very modern.
No building was tall, and huge trees stood throughout the entire pack, and Eduarda's uncle explained:
“Everything is built this way and the trees preserved so that the pack is not visible from above, and because it is deep in the forest, humans rarely reach here, and when they get close, they are stopped by our patrols, who pose as forest rangers.”
Eduarda was amazed by all that, until she saw a building, much larger and distant from the others, surrounded by thick logs in such a way that nothing that happened there could be seen, and from a distance, it couldn't be heard by outsiders.
Noticing her gaze, Joshua says:
“Welcome to the royal academy.”
