“I’m sorry, but I can’t see you tonight,” I replied firmly even though my heart was pounding in my chest.
“Why?” His voice was calm.
I sighed. “I had a long day at work and I’d like to rest.”
He didn’t respond immediately.
He finally cleared his throat and continued. “That’s just an excuse. You’re declining my invitation because you already have plans with my brother.”
If he already knew about our plans, why was he still asking me out? And honestly, I wasn’t interested in going out with any of them that night.
I wasn’t sure I was ready to face Liam after lying to him.
“No, I just want to stay in tonight.”
“Abby…,” he called my name slowly. “I want to see you and I’ll send my driver to pick you up.”
