Chapter Seventeen

2807 Words
"Are you sure that's the place that you want? I thought you wanted somewhere closer to the city." Maria said two days later sitting across from Davina on her own separate blanket. The four of them were currently enjoying their breakfast together at Central park, their breakfast being croissant sandwiches they bought from Starbucks. "I did but I liked the townhouse and it came with three bedrooms one more than what I was asking for, plus it has a backyard for the kids." Davina pointed out. Originally Davina had planned to move into an apartment that was closer to the city and hospital that she was going to be finishing her residency at which was a lot harder to find than she had thought, the townhouse was the closest she could find and it seemed like a blessing in disguise. Plus, it wasn't all that bad from what Maria was making it out to be it just wasn't something that Davina was entirely accustomed to. "That's true the kids would love to run around in the backyard Maria," Alice chimed in taking a bite out of her chocolate croissant. Davina knew that the space might be too big for her and the twins but it was the best thing for them and it was going to be worth it in the long run she just hoped it wasn't going to be as hard as people made it out to be. "Why don't you stay with her Maria, you can be her nanny." Stefan snickered causing Maria to choke on her ice coffee as she stared at her cousin like he grew a second head. "Are you crazy? I don't make impulsive decisions like that." Maria said shaking her head putting her drink down. Stefan rolled his eyes at her. "I didn't mean right now, I meant after the babies are born." Maria pursed her lips in thought before shaking her head. "As much as I would love to do that, I don't think I could be a nanny not even to my own god children." Davina laughed nodding her head fully understanding where Maria was coming from and if she was being honest she probably wouldn't even let Maria or Alice be her nanny, not because she didn't want them to be but mainly because she didn't want or need somebody else raising her kids when she was perfectly capable of. Now having them babysit for her was a whole other story, she would definitely use them then. "Chances are Alice and I will be taking turns coming out here to help Davina the first couple of months after the babies are born but I don't think I could possibly move here," Maria said shaking her head. "Never say never," Stefan chimed to which Maria just rolled her eyes. Davina smiled at the two before looking back down at the text messages between her and the realtor she met with yesterday. She was currently discussing about going in and putting an offering on the townhouse, a warm feeling settling in her stomach. She was slowly beginning to feel a lot more at ease as everything began to set in. She had found a place that she wanted to raise her kids and was starting to move on from the troubles that surrounded her in the past. "Nobody needs to stay and live with me as much as I'd love that, you're more than welcome to visit and stay as long as you want though," Davina laughs to which Maria sighed in relief as if she were afraid that she would ask her to move in with her. "If Porter wasn't in my life I wouldn't hesitate to move with Davina," Alice says giving Davina a smile to which she returns. In all honesty it didn't bother Davina that her friends weren't going to drop everything that they had going on to move with her to New York out of a impulsive decision, it just showed they were way more mature than Davina and she didn't want to bring them down. Besides this was going to be a new learning experience for Davina and she'll be able to do things on her own and get a taste of what the real world was. Yes, it'll be hard being away from her family and friends especially with two newborns but she'll eventually get the hang of it and if she continued having the same mindset her whole pregnancy and preparing for her daughters she won't have as many problems as she will after she gave birth, those problems being sanity and raising two children on her own. Davina just hoped that the neighborhood that she chose to raise her kids in wasn't going to be nearly as terrible as what people made it out to be and it was actually one that she wouldn't mind staying in for the rest of life. Maybe Staten Island wasn't the best option but it was one that was giving her the best opportunity and gave her more than she needed at an reasonable price something that was rare and given her circumstances she should jump on any chance she's given before it was too late and she regretted it. Davina needs to be reasonable and think rationally from this moment on when it came to making her decisions. She couldn't make implosive decisions anymore like she tended to or couldn't wait for somebody to decide for her, she wasn't going to be the only one effected by those decisions anymore, her babies would be too and Davina thought the best option for them was the townhouse in Staten Island and nothing and nobody was going to change her mind. "Is everybody done? I want to take a picture in front of the-" Davina tuned Alice out as she stood up from her blanket when she saw everybody else get open when she started speaking, she felt the croissant trying to make its way back up but she held it down not wanting to puke in front of everybody and complete strangers. The morning sickness has subsided but there were some food items that still made Davina's stomach turn and was harder for her to keep down but with the help of water she could normally keep it down and wash the bad taste away which this time she didn't have to do. "After your picture Alice we need to start shopping we've wasted so much time already." Stefan said putting his Ray-ban sunglasses on. "I know Stefan, you've told me five times already." Alice said rolling her eyes shaking her head slightly getting annoyed at him. "That's because you've had to stop and take a picture every five minutes." Maria told her as she gave her a look that said, 'don't-even-fight-me-on-this-because-you-know-it's-true' . "I do not!" Alice squeaked offended that Maria would agree with Stefan. "Yes you do!" Maria and Stefan yelled at the same time. Alice looked over at Davina for help but Davina was much help either as she gave her a sheepish smile and shrugged her shoulders as she put the blanket she was using over her left arm. "I'm sorry Alice but they are right, you act like you haven't been here before. You had to stop and take a picture of a group of pigeons eating seeds." "A flock," Stefan says which makes Davina look at him with a baffled expression. "What?" "You said a group of pigeons, a group of pigeons is called a flock." "Oh-kay?" Davina said drawing out the kay part not entirely sure why Stefan said that but looked back at Alice who had her arms crossed and a look of annoyance on her face. "Fine, I just won't take my picture then." She gives up throwing her hands down to her side before walking ahead with an attitude. Maria rolls her eyes and sighs in annoyance before looking over towards her cousin. "This is why we don't talk about her obsession with picture taking." She says with a glare before running after Alice. Davina sighs knowing that Maria was right but Stefan also didn't know at the same time so it wasn't his fault that Alice had overreacted but she wasn't going to tell Maria that she didn't want to be on the other end of that stick. "What, am I the problem?" Stefan asked looking cluelessly down at Davina. Davina laughed shaking her head. "No, but Alice will be Alice." Stefan shook his head looking up ahead at Maria and Alice who were taking a picture in front of a hot dog stand in front of a park like Alice had wanted, something that Davina wasn't entirely sure why she wanted to do that but she wasn't going to question Alice for being Alice. Davina bought a hot dog before they left the park something that she was glad she did because it helped the nausea feeling go away and she didn't feel like she had to throw up everything with every step she took. Davina had offered to buy Maria something while at the stand since she seemed like she wanted something but when Davina had offered she ignored her as if she didn't hear anything and walked away. Davina pretended like it didn't hurt but she couldn't help but feel a tad bit guilty that she had said something to upset her even though she hadn't. "I say we hit up the shops in Times Square and then make our way around." Maria says looking at the small group speaking for the first time since leaving the hot dog stand. "Make our way around? Around what the whole city?" Davina asked in disbelief hoping that she wasn't referring to the whole Times Square, Davina was only planning on going to one store and that was the Hershey's store because she wanted some chocolate. "No, just a few stores there before maybe going down to New Jersey and-" "Maria, Davina is pregnant and I highly doubt she'll want to do that much walking." Alice cut Maria off making Maria snap her head to her direction, a glare plastered on her face. "She's not that pregnant yet and walking is great exercise for the babies. Plus, she has to get used to it anyway." "I'm sorry Maria but Alice is right." Davina says, this time Maria moving her glare towards her. "After I get my chocolate I plan on going back to the hotel and napping." Maria doesn't say anything for awhile and if looks could kill Davina and Alice would both be six feet under right now but Davina didn't care Maria could glare at her all she wanted but she was going to just get her chocolate and she was leaving to go sleep. She was okay if they stopped at a couple stores before they stopped at the Hershey store, she just didn't want to be out all day like Maria wants. Davina felt a little bit bad if this was five months ago Davina wouldn't hesitate on Maria's plan but given the circumstances she's in now it's only reasonable for her to feel this way. "Fine," Maria sighs breaking Davina out of thought, a sad look on her face disappearing just as fast it appeared. Davina gave her a grateful smile before looking at the three. "Should we hit up The Gap first?" Alice nodded her head immediately inputting that she needed to buy some new jeans and The Gap was one of her favorite places to get such. While Alice and Stefan began discussing their favorite retail stores that they like buying what type of article of clothing from Davina looked over towards Maria who was walking ahead of her but behind the two with her head down looking at her feet. Davina felt bad for turning down Maria but she wasn't lying when she said she was would be tired by the time they got to the Hershey store, there were a lot of stores before that one and she knew Maria would find some that she would want to go in before they finally reached the store Davina wanted and she was okay with that because she was still able to enjoy her time with her friends and everybody got to do what they wanted. She just couldn't help but think Maria was beginning to think differently of her now because she's pregnant. Davina wasn't as active like she used to and Maria was definitely letting it show it effected her today. Before Davina could dwell on the matter Stefan brought her out of thought by asking Maria a question about her parents. Davina watched the cousins converse and frowned hoping that Maria wasn't upset with her at all. ༺═──────────────═༻ "I think it's a wonderful home Davina, are you sure this is something that you want to do?" Her mom asked through the FaceTime call, her glasses perched onto the top of her nose like a librarian. Davina nodded her head taking a seat on one of the steps of the stairs that led upstairs, her lower back killing her. Currently her and Alice were doing another walk through the townhouse in Staten Island waiting for the realtor to show up so that Davina could sign the closing papers. It was two days since the park and two days since Maria had conversed with Davina, well since had a full on conversation with her. Davina had tried countless of times trying to get Maria to talk to her alone but the only time she would talk to her her was a few word exchanges when Stefan or Alice were around other than that she didn't want to talk to her, hence why Alice was the only one occupying her while the other two did their own thing. Thankfully it wasn't awkward between Stefan or Alice in fact it seemed like they three of them had grown closer to one another in the past two days which made Davina feel a little bit better despite everything going on with Maria. "I think it would be good especially with the twins. There's a room that I can make into the nursery for now and when they're older one of them can take the spare bedroom." Davina pointed out. "Plus it's a close walk to Alice Austen Park that I've heard has an amazing view of Manhattan." "You can see Manhattan from there?" Her mom questioned sounding in shock as Davina shrugged her shoulders. "I guess, that's what the realtor said." If Davina was being honest she wasn't sure she hadn't actually gone down to the park and see for herself but regardless it didn't matter to her just as long as she had a roof over her head for the kids and herself than she was going to be happy. Davina's mother sighs taking her glasses off and looks at her daughter. "I just wish you wouldn't take my grand babies before I could get to know them but I also understand why." Davina frowned looking down at her lap and away from her phone, she didn't really think about how her friends or more importantly how her parents would be affected by her impulsive decision. "How about this, I'll come and stay the first month after you give birth that way you can get the hang of it, you shouldn't be without your mother during this time." Davina smiled nodding her head appreciatively at her mom knowing that she was right. "Thank you mama, I'd love that." Davina glanced over at Alice who was looking out the sliding door that led to the backyard that had a big covered patio and descent lawn, there was some yellow grass but nothing Davina couldn't fix. It had a nice area for a play area for the twins when they got older and it was spacious enough for Sirius to run around and a home for him to lay in whenever he was out there. Just the picturing the way Davina could decorate and make it into a fun area for her kids and dog to enjoy made her feel up with so much happiness that Davina also knew that despite the way everybody was going to be affected by this decision she knew it was the right one and nothing was going to change her mind. The front door suddenly opened and in walked Lindsay Marshall, Davina's relator. Davina quickly ending her call stands up from the stairs and gives Lindsay a smile. "Hey Davina, are you ready to sign the papers?" Nodding her head she walked over to the balcony and began signing her agreement. This was it, she was going to start the beginning of a new chapter and this time Elio wasn’t apart of it.
