"One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals." ~ Michelle Obama Chapter Eighteen It was the morning after Davina signed her lease with Lindsay and the happiness that Davina had felt when she signed the papers was still there and she was hoping it never went away. Today Alice wants to take Davina to this baby store she had found while scrolling through f*******: and claimed that she needed to be the one to buy the twins their first dresser, though Davina had told her that she didn't want to get the furniture for the twins until she knew the genders but that didn't stop Alice from insisting they checked them out anyway. Davina had asked if Maria was going to be joining them but Alice had given Davina a sad smile and shook her head saying that Maria had offered to help her uncle down at the restaurant which Davina wasn't surprised, Maria wasn't talking to her anyway. Davina wasn't going to let Maria ruin her mood though. The next couple of weeks we're going to be the best and nothing was going to get in the way of that. She had a lot on her plate and though it seemed stressful with the move happening at the end of the month she did have one thing to look forward to and that was finally finding out the s*x of her babies and the thought of that alone made every negative thing/thought disappear. Her next appointment was tomorrow and she originally had planned to have both Alice and Maria in the room with her when she found out but with the looks of how Maria was behaving she didn't know if that was even going to be an option for her even she would like it. Of course, Davina is still going to offer it to her but she wasn't going to force Maria into doing something that she didn't want to do. It might hurt but Davina would understand. "Do you think Elio thinks about you or the babies?" Alice asked randomly as they walked to the store, the question catching Davina completely off guard, she definitely didn't expect that one that's for sure. "I don't know," Davina sighed. "If he did I hope he feels regret, but I hope he doesn't come searching for us. For them." She answered truthfully placing a hand on her stomach soothingly to calm her nerves at the mere thought of Elio coming back. She never thought she would ever have a fear of Elio but it was more on the mere thought of him searching for the twins and trying to take what he threw away because he was selfish and couldn't handle his own consequences. Davina didn't want to think negatively about Elio but he left her with no choice, she did however choose not to think negatively at all because she didn't want anything to reflect her mood. She wasn't going to have Elio ruin her day especially when he wasn't there in person to ruin it. "I wouldn't let him. He'd have to kill me before he could ever figure out where you're at." Alice said narrowing her eyes in a glare as she brought her fist up as if Elio was in front of her and she was about to punch him. Davina laughed appreciating that Alice would do that for her if the opportunity came up, which she hoped it didn't. "How's Porter doing? Is he still visiting his grandpa in Nebraska?" Davina asked changing the subject not wanting to talk about Elio. "Yeah, he's fine. He's supposed to be coming back by the beginning of next month but we'll see." Alice said shrugging her shoulders with a frown. Davina gave her a sad smile. She felt bad knowing that it must be tough having Porter always going back forth from Miami to Nebraska where he helps out his dying grandpa from time to time but they’ve been together for years, Alice was used to it. “I still think you guys should think about moving out that way just until he passes.” Davina said giving her a sad smile. Alice shook her head. “There’s nothing in Nebraska it would be a terrible decision.” Davina rolled her eyes. Just because Alice didn’t hear much about Nebraska on the news didn’t mean that Nebraska was going to be a terrible place to live for a short period of time. She was sure that Nebraska wasn’t as boring as Alice was making it out to be. “What if Porter wants to move out there in the future?” Davina asked. Alice didn’t say anything for a minute as she opened the store doors to the baby store that she had found out about. When they both stepped inside and started looking around she finally spoke; “I’ve never given it much thought, I guess I just thought we would live in Miami the rest of our lives and raise our kids and have our friends kids be friends with ours but I guess you can’t always get what you want.” Alice half heartedly laughed with a fake smile, a sad look in her eyes. A pang of hurt crushed Davina’s heart at the wish that Alice had always wanted immediate guilt washing over her like a dirty blanket. She knew Alice didn’t mean any harm by her words but that didn’t mean words didn’t hurt still. Alice must have realized what she said and immediately wiped that smile off her face and gave Davina a look of worry as she shook her head. “I’m sorry Davina I didn’t mean that in any mean way, I promise! I was just tal-” “Relax, it’s okay,” Davina giggled shaking her head placing her hands on the worrying blondes shoulders giving them a squeeze. “I know what you meant, it’s okay.” Alice sighed nodding her head looking down in defeat. “Okay, I just don’t want you to think that I’m mad at you for moving because I’m not. I’m excited for you, I’m just going to miss you.” Davina smiled sadly as she wrapped Alice into a hug. She knew moving was hard just based off the movies and tv shows she’s watched and from the books she’s read but she didn’t think it would have been this hard when she decided to move, of course she didn’t think of that. “Don’t worry, my sons will still know their Auntie Alice.” Davina said pulling away from the hug smiling at Alice. “Sons? You’re having boys!?” Alice asked in shock once she registered what Davina had just said. Davina laughed shaking her head picking up a neutral tone baby towel set that came with three different towels with baby ducks on each one. “No, I’m not sure what I’m having but I’ve been testing out both. Yesterday I was saying daughters.” Alice frowned picking up a baby blue blanket that had the year written on the bottom corner that was folded slightly to give access to the what the other side of the blanket felt like. “Damn, I got excited for nothing.” Davina sort of felt bad for teasing Alice the way that she did but it’s the own girls fault for taking it the way that she did because she’s been saying for the past couple of days she still didn’t know the s*x of the babies and she probably wouldn’t until her next appointment, which was tomorrow and Alice knew about it because she had agreed to go. It wasn’t Davina’s fault that Alice was gullible and didn’t think sometimes. Okay, that was mean she did think, she just had a forgetful mind. “What about this?” Davina looked towards Alice who was holding up a cute grey and white elephant and giraffe pajama set that had matching socks. The outfit was adorable but it looked more like it was for a boy than unisex, which Davina wanted to continue on buying until she actually knew the genders. “It’s cute, but I feel like it’s more meant for a little boy.” Alice looked at the pajamas before nodding her head and putting it back on the rack and moving on to the next one. Davina began looking through the unisex clothes that they had laid out in the front of the store. The store was cute and they had a lot to choose from that Davina liked. There were a couple of girl clothes and boy clothes that caught Davina’s eye and if she didn’t have patience’s she was sure she would have bought them regardless without knowing. “I don’t see why you won’t just buy one boy or girl outfit now you can always return it if it’s not the right gender.” Alice said opening a drawer of one of the dressers they were looking at. Davina ran her hand along the top of a dark mahogany wood dresser liking the look of it before back up at Alice shrugging her shoulders as she dropped her hand to the side. “I don’t want to get my hopes up,” “Understandable but what if you’re right?” Davina looked over at the boy section of the store biting her lip. There were a lot more boy clothes that she had found that were really cute and that caught her eye, but she didn’t want to get them and get her hopes up at the thought of having a boys only to be told she’s having girls— not like that would be an issue, she’d love to have two girls too it was just different actually knowing. “I don’t care, I plan on still shopping tomorrow after my appointment. You’re more than happy to do that though, I’m not going to stop you.” Alice shook her head. “Oh I am, I plan on bringing one to the appointment with us. I have a feeling I know what they will be.” She mischievously replied rubbing her hands together like a Disney villain. Davina rolled her eyes. “I’m sure you do.” Alice shrugged her shoulders. “Just you wait and see.” Davina hummed moving on down the aisle a small smile on her lips. ༺═──────────────═༻ Elio sat in the waiting room at South Florida Women's Care, his left leg bouncing nervously as he sat with all the other patients waiting their turn for their appointments some pregnant others he wasn't sure but Elio didn't care all he cared about was figuring out where the hell Petra was. It had been nearly twenty minutes since he had sent her a text saying that he was waiting for her in the waiting room, the same waiting room that she had claimed that she was already waiting in. Elio had called Petra an hour before her appointment informing her that he was leaving the office now and that he was going to be there shortly to pick her up for her appointment. Petra immediately got defensive claiming she wasn't home and she was out shopping with her mother and that they had planned on meeting up with him at the clinic. It annoyed Elio like no other but he wasn't going to loose his temper on her not when she was pregnant so he just let it be and told her he'd see her shortly yet she was nowhere in sight. Elio looked down at his wrist watch with a frown. Her appointment was thirty minutes ago. He hadn't checked Petra in for her appointment yet because he had figured she was already here by the time he had gotten there but evidently she wasn't. He had tried calling her multiple times but she didn't answer and Elio was beginning to get angry not worried because Petra knew about this appointment and if she was doing this on purpose just to spite him they were going to have a long talk. Elio grabbed his phone from his pocket deciding to dial her number one last time before walking up to the front desk. "You've reached Petra Russo, I can't come to the phone right now bu-" Elio doesn't let the voicemail box finish before hanging up the phone and standing up from the chair he currently occupied for the last half hour. The minute Elio stepped forward to the front desk it caught the young receptionists hungry eyes. She immediately began fixing her ruby red hair and tugging on the top of her scrub top to try and make herself look more presentable and less like someone who just was playing solitaire. "Hello sir, what can I help you with?" She smiles sweetly, her yellow braces bright and making her teeth look yellow. "Hi, I'd like to see if my wife has been seen? She told me she was here?" The receptionist frowned at the mention of Petra but she quickly replaced it back with that smile and nodded her head. "Of course, what's her first and last name?" "Petra Russo? She said she's been seeing Dr. Shane." The receptionist looks taken back but types in Petra's name shaking her head. "Would she be under another name?" "No, I had called last week to make the appointment." "Do you remember who you talked to?" Elio shook his head. The receptionist sighed. "I'm sorry sir, but your wife isn't pulling up in the system. I could look under Dr. Shane's patients but he hasn't had new patients since March." Elio's brows furrowed in confusion. "Yeah, if you could please because I swore I made an appointment." "Of course, just give me one moment while I look." "Thank you." The receptionist nods her head turning her attention back to her computer screen. Elio looks down at the counter top of the front desk and frowned. What the hell was going on and where was Petra? "Mr. Russo?" Elio looked up at the sound of his name making eye contact with the receptionist. "Did you find her?" He asked clearing his throat. She nodded her head smiling. "Yes, it turns out she called on Monday and canceled and asked for her profile to be deleted." "Did she say why?" The girl shook her head. "I'm sorry it doesn't it only lets me see so much since her profile is in the process of being deleted." "Okay, thank you." He said smiling knocking his knuckle on the counter top. Elio walked out of the clinic with his hands in pants pockets. His blood was boiling in anger towards Petra. He got in his car not bothering to call Petra as he pulled out of the parking spot and sped towards home. She wanted to play games, he was going to quickly put an end to it once and for all.
