"One of the most terrible feelings in the world is knowing that someone else doesn't like you. Especially when you don't know what you've done to deserve it."
~ Ariana Grande
Chapter Thirteen
“Hey, how was the city?" Stefan asked acting as if they weren't interrupted or having a moment, a calm collected vibe radiating off of him like a second nature.
Davina looks over at Maria and Alice waiting for her answer as she sets Alice down on one of the chairs, a look annoyance on her face.
"It was fun until somebody wanted to bar hop." Maria said giving Alice a glare who was too busy to even realize what was happening around her.
Davina laughed knowing damn well how much of a pain Alice was when she was drunk. It was like a side of Alice that nobody knew existed, hell Davina was sure Alice herself didn't know how she acted when she was drunk because she always never remembers the night before even if she didn't blackout.
"I'm sorry that sounds terrible, how many bars did you go to?"
"Six," Alice said making Davina look over at Maria in surprise. Six? Normally when they bar hopped they only went to four at most!
"Sounds like you guys had fun," Stefan said standing up from the couch stretching his arms up above his head making a popping sound go down all of his back, making him release a sigh of relief.
"She did, I didn't.
Stefan laughs walking over to his cousin patting her on the shoulder. "Awe cheer up dear cousin, you're not the only one who got your night ruined because of her," he says sending a wink to Davina before walking away.
Davina watches his retreating figure her face permanently red like a tomato for the rest of the night
Davina had successfully snuck out to get to her interview on time and to say if she was nervous was an understatement because she was felt more nervous about going into this interview than when she told Elio that she was pregnant.
This whole interview would be determining her future. She wasn't going back to Florida and New York was the place that she had set to start new it was a large city and she was less likely to run into Elio he hated New York and tried to ignore it as much as possible it was the perfect. Too perfect if you asked Davina.
If Elio ever tried to come looking for her kids he wouldn't think to look in New York and if he tries going to her parents to try and get information she knows they wouldn't betray her even if they do want him to step up and partake in his share.
It was ironic if you thought about it, the woman Elio hated the most in the world at the moment was moving to the city he hated the most it was brilliant and Davina hadn't even thought about that until after her interview at the hospital and she was taking a taxi back to the hotel.
Honestly, Davina was ready to move and if she didn't get this job she wasn't going to let that stop her from doing what she needed to raise her children she will settle for a different job until she found a job at a hospital or an assistant living place, she needed to get out of Florida before it became too difficult for her.
It was already hard enough on her living in the same state with him once he married Petra and while they had their affair it just got completely unbearable once he cut ties off with her completely because of her pregnancy, they already had too many encounters that Davina would have liked and have too many connections in Florida for Davina to fully get away from him, she needs to distance herself from everything that connects her to Elio and if that means moving to a whole state she will do it, it's what's best for her children.
"Miss, you're here." Davina looks up from her lap her eye's immediately looking out the window and up at the hotel that was owned by Maria's and Stefan's uncle.
Davina quickly thanked the driver paying and leaving a tip as she left. She entered the hotel making her way to the elevators wanting to quickly get to the room before anybody could notice that she had stepped out and question her, she wasn't good under pressure and couldn't keep a secret even if her life depended on it.
Davina was still trying to figure out how to tell the girls that she wasn't going back home with them and being caught before she figure out would make the whole thing a lot more messier than what it needed to be.
When she entered the presidential suite it was silent and empty meaning that they were still eating breakfast with Maria's grandparents and hadn't noticed that Davina had left.
Davina left her phone in the kitchen while she retreated back into the room that she was sharing with Alice and Maria immediately going over to her bed already feeling exhausted.
Being pregnant definitely was taking up all of her energy, it felt like she was spending majority of her time sleeping than actually being awake but Davina wasn't going to complain. She enjoyed sleeping and it gave her an excuse to take a nap and not go out and socialize with the world, she could just be her introvert self.
Davina got comfortable underneath the sheets the blankets surprisingly soft against her skin.
The silence didn't last long. Laughter immediately filled the once silence room minutes later as Alice and Maria walked into the room, their eyes instantly landing on Davina who was already staring at them from the bed.
Alice ran and jumped onto the bed while Davina trying to sit up, Maria had a curious look as she followed Alice but she didn't jump on the bed like Alice did, instead she sat on the edge with one leg up bent on the bed and the other dangling off the edge.
Based off the looks the two girls were giving her Davina already knew what was to come and she wasn't prepared for the questions that were going to be asked.
"Spill the tea, what went down between you and Stefan." Alice said wiggling her perfect eyebrows with a smile on her face that resembled one of a clown.
Davina instantly blushed tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she looked at the two girls acting as if she didn't know what Alice was talking about.
"What do you mean, nothing went down between us."
Maria rolled her eyes but smirked. "Doesn't seem like nothing went down, you two were about to kiss."
Alice nodded her head at Maria said. "Yep, I saw it with my own eyes."
The blush didn't leave Davina's face as she shook her head looking at her two best friends. "I'm serious, nothing happened between us. He just invited me to watch a movie and have pizza with him while you guys were out."
"Awe, you guys had your own little date? How cute!" Alice cooed, her blue eyes lighting up with excitement.
Davina looks at Alice in horror shaking her head, her face was burning from embarrassment now. Last night was absolutely not a date! They were just hanging out and Stefan probably wasn't thinking straight, there's no way he would have actually wanted to kiss her.
"You can't possibly call that hanging out Davina!" Alice exclaimed shaking her head.
"Yes she can," Maria laughed which had Davina nodding her head slightly feeling better that Maria had sided with her on this one thing.
Alice rolled her eyes at what Maria said. "That isn't hanging out Maria, one boy and one girl can't just call it hanging out when they obviously have feelings for each other."
"You don't know if we like each other or not Alice," Davina pointed out which made the blonde girl roll her eyes once more.
"We don't know if Stefan does but we know that you do Davina." Alice teased which made Davina shut her mouth and look at Alice.
There was no point in arguing with her. No matter how many times she tells Alice that she doesn't have feelings for Stefan it wasn't going to process for her, Alice was stubborn and once she believed in something it was hard to convince her otherwise.
"I don't understand why you won't admit you have feelings for the dude and actually try to be happy for once, you let guys walk all over you." Alice said minutes later which caught both Davina and Maria off.
"Alice, that was rude and so not true," Maria said shaking her head looking at Alice in disappointment.
Davina looked down at her lap biting her lip. She didn't know what to say to what Alice said. In a sense she was right, she did let Elio walk all over her but she didn't let every guy do that. She wasn't that experienced in that department she's only been with one guy and that was Elio unfortunately.
Alice look taken back. "What? It's true, she let Elio walk all over her heart and don't forget that one guy in middle school who only dated her because she had a thick ass."
"That was middle school Alice." Maria said.
"It's fine, she's right in a way. I did let Elio walk all over me and use me for his own benefit but I'm also in my healing process and I'm pregnant with his children, looking for a man to date isn't something that's on my priority list at the moment."
Alice frowned but didn't say anything. The room was silent nothing being said between

Alice frowned but didn't say anything. The room was silent nothing being said between the three girls.
Davina wanted to break the silence and get the awkward tension in the room away after Alice's strange outburst but she didn't know what to say.
Now would be the perfect time to release the news that she was permanently staying in New York, but she didn't want to make the situation even worse but she also couldn't keep it bottled up forever she had to tell them at one point.
"There's actually something that I wanted to talk to you guys about," Davina broke the silence finally getting the courage to tell them the news.
She'd figured she'd tell them now and if it made the situation worst and they ended up hating her then so be it. This pregnancy has really opened up her eyes and realize who was truly there for her and who wasn't, of course the two girls have been this far with her on her journey and she's been friends with them for years she knows that even if they were to get upset with her about it they wouldn't go to the full extent of dropping her as a friend completely— at least she hoped.
"Is there something wrong with the babies?" Maria asked worriedly, her brown eyes shifting towards Davina's stomach that was being covered by the blanket.
Davina shook her head. "Everything's perfectly fine with the babies, it's actually something totally different, sort of?"
Alice gives Davina a curious look but doesn't say anything, probably still a little bit upset from the conversation early but Davina couldn't tell.
Davina looked down at her hands in her lap focusing on her fingers that were wiggling back and forth, something she did when she was nervous and wanted to distract her mind.
She took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves.
"I'm moving to New York and I'm not going back to Miami with you guys," — is what she wanted to say but no matter how hard she tried to form the words they just wouldn't come out of her mouth instead a choking sound came out followed by uncontrollable tears.
Alice and Maria both look taken back as Davina broke down crying in front of them, her once perfectly applied make up was now running down her face and her body was shaking uncontrollably.
"Are you okay?"
"Clearly she's not Alice!" Maria exclaimed shaking her head wrapping her arms around Davina's shaking form shooting the blonde girl a glare.
Alice holds her hands up in defense. "I'm sorry she's pregnant maybe she's crying because she's happy?"
"Do they look like happy tears Aliceson?"
Alice tenses at the use of full name but she doesn't say anything else as she shoots a glare towards Maria before patting Davina's back reassuring her that everything was going to be okay and that she could talk whenever she was calm enough.
Davina did calm down and when she did she was embarrassed that she broke down before she could even tell them but she didn't dwell on it, she needed to get this done and over with. It was like ripping off a band aid.
"I'm not going back with you to Miami, I'm going to stay here."
"What do you mean? This isn't because of what I said because I wasn't trying to be mean, I just want you to be happy and I think Stefan is that guy!" Alice cried out grabbing onto Davina's arm squeezing it a little bit to make her wince but it goes unnoticed by Alice as she gave her a worried look.
"It's for the babies Alice, she doesn't want them anywhere near Elio," Maria said which caused both Davina and Alice to look at her in shock— Davina more because Maria was spot on to the reasoning and she didn't even have to fully explain.
"How do you know?" Alice said looking at Maria who just rolled her eyes.
"Alice you can't be that stupid, it's clear as day just think about it."
Alice furrowed her eyebrows but gave it a thought before realizing that it did make sense and would be the only logical reason for Davina to stay.
"But why? Miami is so big, I highly doubt you'd even run into Elio." Alice pointed but Davina shook her head. It may be big but they had ties together by business and by mutual friends it would be hard to not run into Elio especially when her parents loved to hold events and invite his family.
"Alice I'd run into him you know that more than I do, my parents are friends with his parents." Davina stated to which Alice scoffed crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yes but you're their daughter and given the circumstances I bet they would be more than willing to cut ties off with the Russo family."
"They bring in a lot of money towards both the business and the charity, her parents wouldn't do that no matter what circumstances were given. Hell, they didn't cut ties off when Elio's father made the agreement with Petra's family knowing damn well Davina and Elio were dating." Maria stated her body screaming anger as she crossed her arms over her chest with a glare on her face as she remembered the bullshit the Russo family had done to Davina— it was one of the reasons why she hated the fact that they had the same last name but thankful at the same time that it had nothing to do with relation.
Davina hated to do agree with Maria but she was right and her parents have already proven that to her. When they found out about the marriage they didn't cut ties off even though they knew how much it hurt Davina seeing and hearing about Elio's marriage to another woman and then when the pregnancy got involved they still didn't drop ties off. Her parents may love her but they also have proven that money is more important and that's another reason why she didn't want to move into their home when they offered and another reason why she felt like it was important for her to move to New York.
Besides, it wasn't like she was going to be cutting ties with her family, she was still going to talk to her parents and visit as much as she could but it wasn't going to be all the time she highly doubts she'd have anytime before or after the babies came.
"But you're going to be alone with the babies in this big city, don't you want our help?"
Of course, Davina wanted help she was going to be a single mother raising twins it was going to be hard enough but she was going to do it on her own and take the responsibility that Elio was unmanly enough to do. It was going to be hard the first couple of days and months he'll even years but she'll get the hang of it after all she wouldn't have been blessed with them if she couldn't handle them.
She wasn't going to have Alice and Maria pause their lives to help her raise her children. They have their own lives ahead of them and they shouldn't have to put their lives on hold just because she got pregnant by a married man. Davina needs to learn from her doings and deal with the consequences on her own, after all you can't make your problem somebody else's just like how they can't make theirs yours.
"You shouldn't have to do this alone Davina, let's think about this if you stay here we can't help you and we promised you we would." Alice said.
"I don't need you guys to pause your life for me. I'll be okay,"
"What about when the babies come? You can't take care of twins on your own Davina, you've never had to take care of a child permanently before."
Davina knew what Alice was saying was true, the longest she's gone in taking care of a baby or a child for that matter had only been for five hours but Davina wasn't going to tell Alice that she was right because she might be now but that doesn't mean she won't learn along the way that's the whole purpose of growing up.
"Why don't we both come help out after you have the babies?" Maria says.
"What? You're actually okay with her moving?" Alice stated looking at Maria in shock with her mouth slightly parted open.
Maria shrugged her shoulders. "It's not my decisions it's hers and I respect it and I'll be here trying to help as best as I can even from Florida."
Davina smiled appreciatively at Maria. It felt a little bit better knowing that she had at least one other person who could see her point of view and want what's best for both her and her future children Alice was just going to take some time to convince. Davina knows Alice she means well but sometimes she doesn't want to see the whole picture and that irritated Davina at times especially when it came to something as important as this.
"She doesn't even have a job here or a place to live!" Alice exclaimed throwing her hands in the air.
Maria and Davina both sigh. Maria looks over at Davina raising an eyebrow at her as if she were silently asking her if she had any of those things yet.
"I had an interview today at a hospital, that's where I went while you guys went out for breakfast."
Alice looks at Davina with shock and hurt written across her face at the new found information where as Maria look unfazed and as if she had already known this all along.
"Before you even say anything Alice, I didn't tell you guys this because I was scared to tell you what I've decided, I didn't want you guys to hate me." Davina whispered the last part looking down at her lap her hands becoming the most interesting thing in the room.
"Oh Davina, we'd never hate you." Alice said immediately wrapping her arms around the brunette pulling her body into a hug, regret coursing through her body at the way she reacted towards Davina when she was telling them.
Alice knew the way she was behaving was uncalled for and that she should be supporting Davina's decision even if she thought it was dumb, she had already been through so much and didn't deserve it from Alice or anybody for that matter.
"Do you really think moving to New York would be the best option for you?" Alice asked pulling away her green eyes staring intensely into Davinas brown eyes seeing if she could see any sort of emotion that would indicate this was all a joke.
When Davina nodded her head in confirming that she did believe that this was the best option for her Alice let out a sigh before nodding her own.
"If this is what you think is best then I'll support you every step of the way." She finally said which made Davina feel more relaxed.
Davina gave Alice a thankful smile before pulling her into a hug. It felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders now that she had finally told the two that she was staying in New York she didn't have to worry about slipping up and ruining everything she can now focus on making her last couple of days with them count.
The two finally pulled away after a minute and the room immediately felt lighter. Davina knew that she still didn't have everything figured out but she was a step closer to achieving what she's always wanted.
Happiness.
