"Sometimes growth requires new company, new locations, and new mindsets." ~ Steve Harvey Chapter Fourteen "How far along are you?" Maria asked the next day in the bathroom finishing her make up so the three girls could go apartment hunting with Davina. "I'll be four months on the twentieth." Davina said not looking up from her phone. She had finished getting ready about an hour ago as did Alice, for some reason Maria was taking her sweet time getting ready but Davina didn't complain if it meant she got to spend more time in bed. "What's Stefan going to be doing while we're out?" Alice asked moments later when she walked into the room holding two water bottles one for her and Davina. "He's helping my uncle downstairs," Maria said walking out of the bathroom wearing dark denim skinny jeans, a red long-sleeved v-neck crop top with black combat boots on. Her brown hair was neatly curled with her make up done just as elegant with a Smokey eye and red lips. "Why are you dressed so nice?" Davina asked tilting her head to the side staring at her friend up and down confused on why she had to dress so nice. Maria looked down at her outfit shrugging her shoulders giving Davina a smirk. "I don't know, I just feel like it." Davina shook her head not understanding quite why she would want to do that to herself especially when they were going to be walking majority of the time and they were in a big city it's why Davina chose to wear grey Aeropostale sweat pants with the matching hoodie and tan moccasins, it's cute and comfortable and it appeared Alice had the same idea because she was wearing a similar outfit, they were probably going to stick out when they were out but Davina won't mind there are far more unusual and weird things to stare at in New York City, it was one of the reasons listed on Elio's list on why he hates the city and another reason listed on Davina's to move list. Davina didn't question Maria any further as she stood up from the bed, the need of eating a sandwich sounding too good for her to pass up as the thought entered her mind. Davina walked out of the room not caring that she didn't tell the two what she was doing as she left but she figured if they were curious they would follow her out or they would just call after her. When she entered the kitchen area Davina got out the meat and bread from the fridge that they had bought and kept in there for when they didn't want to spend any money on food. Davina made herself three sandwiches not caring if it seemed to be a lot but lately she's been eating more than she normally does and she had been craving a sandwich since she first started getting ready she's surprised she even lasted this long on waiting to make one. She was mid bite out of her first sandwich when Stefan had walked into the small kitchen area completely shirtless and only wearing red and black flannel pajama pants. Immediacy Davina was flushed with embarrassment at being caught eating a meal for two, her cheeks feeling warm. Stefan gave Davina a soft smile as he grabbed a water bottle from the fridge untwisting the cap taking a huge chug. Davina looked away quickly swallowing what was in her mouth before grabbing the sandwiches from the counter, she didn't bother bidding a goodbye to Stefan it wasn't like they had technically communicated with each other and Davina wasn't going to stay around long enough for one, she wasn't about to embarrass herself in front of Stefan further he probably already thought she was eating a lot. "Davina?" Davina stopped her back tensing. She looked over her shoulder giving Stefan a soft smile. "Yeah?" "Can I ask you something?" Oh god, here it comes. He was going to ask her if she had enough food. Davina thought to herself as she turned back around giving Stefan her full attention. "Sure," She smiled clearing her throat. "What's up?" "It isn't awkward between us now is it?" He asked running his hand through his hair messing what was already messy. Davina shook her head. "No, why would it be?" She asked trying to play dumb as if she had no idea what he was talking about. Stefan smiled in relief. "Great, I was afraid that I had ruined my chances." "Excuse me?" Davina asked completely shocked at what she had just heard but wasn't quite sure if that was exactly what she heard. Stefan didn't seemed fazed as he shrugged his shoulders giving Davina a soft smile. "I was going to ask you if you wanted to get dinner with me tonight. Just us." "Like a date?" Davina asked blinking at Stefan in shock not truly believing what she was hearing from him. She didn't want to automatically assume it was a date. Stefan laughed a deep chuckle, the kind that seemed to have been making butterflies erupt whenever Davina heard it. "Yeah, like a date." A blush crept up onto her face as she bit her lip trying to hold back a smile, nodding her head Davina cleared her throat. "I'd love to, does six-thirty sound okay?" Stefan nods his head the smile not leaving his face. Davina didn't want to embarrass herself further she decided to leave and made her way back into the bedroom where the girls were sitting on one of the beds talking. Alice looks over at Davina looking down at the plate in her hand a hopeful smile on her face. "Please tell me one of those are for me." Davina looked down at the sandwiches before back up at Alice. Shaking her head, "No, they're mine go make your own." she says sitting down on the edge of the bed taking a bite of one of them. Alice stares at her mouth dropped wide open but she didn't say anything which Davina was glad Alice was smart enough to know why she didn't give her any. "Are you guys ready, we have to meet with the realtor in twenty minutes at the first place and I want to get moving." Maria said breaking both Alice and Davina's attention away from the sandwiches and towards her. "You do realize that we're walking there right? I don't want to spend money on a cab or Lyft." Alice says shaking her head. "We're only walking after we finish the tours, it's why I wore the heels." "No, Davina is pregnant she wouldn't want to walk to every apartment she goes to today!" Davina didn't have the strength to get in between them and just let them fight it out amongst themselves. In truths, they were going to walk a lot but for the first couple that they were going to be seeing they had to take cab or Lyft there but once the apartments got closer to the city and not so spaced out from one another the realtor said that they would walk which Davina didn't mind she needed the exercise it was good for the babies. "I'm telling you now we aren't-" "I've bought the Lyft and it'll be here in ten minutes so be ready," Davina says cutting Alice off mid sentence making her turn her head to her for the first time since the argument happened. Davina raised an eyebrow waiting for Alice to say something but the blonde was smart enough and didn't say anything as she kept her mouth shut. Davina smiled liking the peace and quiet as she continued eating her sandwiches in peace. She had just finished her sandwiches when the Lyft that she had bought was arriving. Alice thankfully not saying anything as she got her bag from the bed before the girls left the room and made their way down stairs to the lobby to meet the driver in time. The girls got into a black Toyota SUV the space not too tight for Davina as she sat in between Maria and Alice. The driver offered complimentary drinks each of them decking the invitation. The ride wasn't long but it was also a bit awkward. Nobody spoke during the ride and it left Davina to her thoughts. She didn't know why she didn't tell the girls about her date with Stefan yet she had the perfect opportunity when she got back from the kitchen but with Alice and Maria arguing over the stupidest s**t once again it distracted her mind also it was a good distraction for Davina to get the guts to actually tell Maria that her cousin had asked her out on a date which she didn't know why she was scared to tell Maria it wasn't like she was going to judge her or immediately shut the idea down. Maria had stated in the past she had wanted Davina to move on from Elio, but maybe she would think differently when she found out it was her one of her family members asking her out especially knowing she was pregnant with another man's children, the thought alone made Davina skin thinking about it who knew what Maria would think! "Here you go ladies!" The driver says pulling over to the side of the street thirty-three minutes later, a smile on his old face. Davina smiled gratefully at him as she followed Maria out of the car giving her thanks to him as she exited. The place that the driver had stopped at was a small townhouse in Staten Island a little off from where Davina had originally had wanted but she also wasn't going to complain that the realtor even found something along her price range in New York in general. The townhome itself was nice, it was the basic two story bricked building with a nice green grassed frown lawn that had a for sale sign and a small stoned pathway that led to the front door. The neighborhood didn't look too bad and there were a couple kid toys sprawled out amongst some lawns that Davina could see. "This place is nice," Maria says spinning around taking in the surrounding area. Davina nodded her head as she looked around the premature of the property. The realtor had messaged her that they were just pulling into the neighborhood when they had reached the place and would be here any second. Davina was excited to get the tours started it was always exciting to her to see new places from time to time and planning out different ways to decorate the place it brought her a sense of joy in a way. "Are you sure you want to raise your kids in Staten Island?" Alice asked look at the home with a tilt of her head, her left hand up above her eyes blocking the sun. "What's wrong with Staten Island?" Davina asked with a frown. Alice shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing, but I've just heard Staten Island isn't a good place is all." "From who?" Maria asked raising an eyebrow at her in question wondering who Alice would know from New York or anybody from New York or Staten Island itself to know this information. Alice shrugged her shoulders once again. "I've just heard on the internet and also Pete Davidson is from St-" "You can't believe everything you hear on the internet Alice and just because you have some hatred towards Pete Davidson shouldn't mean you should judge the place without knowing it." Maria lectured cutting the blonde off. Davina bit her lip holding back a laugh at the look on Alice's face from being told off by Maria. Normally Alice would have a retaliation but this time she had nothing to say which Davina was glad because she didn't know what she would do if the two of them were fighting when the realtor showed up. "I wasn't going to say anything bad but I've just read some things is all." Alice muttered crossing her arms over her chest looking down at the concrete. Davina let out a sigh of relief when a red Toyota Corolla pulled up where the Lyft once was and a tall bubbly black haired woman stepped out from the vehicle wearing a business suit and heels. "Sorry I'm late, my son was having a hard time letting me drop him off at day program, hope you weren't waiting long?" She says once she got into hearing range, a smile on her bright face. "No, you're fine we just arrived." Davina responded back with a smile. The realtor smiles letting out a thankful smile. "Wonderful, I'm Lindsay Marshall. You must be Davina?" She says holding out her hand. Davina nodded her head smiling shaking Lindsay's hand. "Yes, and these are my friends Maria and Alice they'll be joining us today." She says motioning over to the two girls beside her. Lindsay looked over at the two other girls with a smile introducing herself before turning her attention at the townhouse in front of them. "Should we get started?" ༺═──────────────═༻
