"You can't force yourself to stop liking someone, but you can tell yourself that you deserve better and try to move on."

Chapter Twelve
Elio had just walked through the door when he was instantly hit with the smell of one of Petra's famous meals— well famous to Petra— and he immediately knew that she was going to be sharing some gossip that she had recently found out whether it be about someone he knew or not.
Elio dreaded the moment he walked into the kitchen knowing that as soon as he walked through the door Petra would immediately pounce on him like puma and start talking his ear off until his ears bled but she wouldn't stop, she'd still go because she thinks he enjoys listening to it like she does.
He thought about stopping at the liquor cabinet he kept out in the foyer and take a shot or two before making his way to the kitchen but Petra walked out of the kitchen before he could start heading in that direction and her eyes immediately landed on him making a smirk crawl it's way up her face.
"I have some news for you!" Petra sings in a song-song-voice that she thought was good but actually resembled more like a dying chicken than anything. Petra wrapped her husband into a hug her hands running down his back before resting on his hips, she pushes back looking up at him giving him a smile.
"Yeah? What would that be?" Elio asked getting out of her hold taking a step back not wanting to be so close to her.
Petra puts her hand on her stomach, a motion that doesn't go unnoticed by Elio. Petra smiles when she sees where Elio was staring, her hand beginning to move in circles.
"Has the baby started kicking yet?" Elio asked looking up from his stomach.
He's always wondered what it felt like to feel the baby move, what the mother felt. He wanted to ask Petra once she made the comment that she could feel them moving but she hadn't made a comment yet which he thought was odd because she had a comment about everything.
Petra looked down at her stomach her hand freezing in place. "W-what?"
"You know, has the baby started moving yet? You feel when that happens, don't you?" Elio asks raising an eyebrow at her.
He didn't know much about the female anatomy or the human anatomy at that but he always heard his older female aunts and cousins talking about the baby kicking and moving while they were pregnant and that was one of their favorite things about being pregnant so he thought it was strange that Petra wasn't talking about it yet.
Petra's hand leaves her stomach before realization crosses her face before she lightly laughed nodding her head. "Yes but I don't feel anything right now because they're asleep. Come on, let's go into the kitchen I have much to tell you!"
Petra grabs Elio's hand before he could protest dragging him into the kitchen where the smell of what was meant to smell like a delicious meal bud actually smelt more like the back of grocery store where they keep their fish and seafood.
Elio coughs quickly covering the sound with a clear of her throat. Petra leads them to the table where she had laid out the meal she prepared for tonight, the smile back on her face as she turns towards her husband.
"Here sit, you need to listen to what I have to tell you, you're going to be shocked!"
Elio gave her a curious look as he he took his seat, his eyes never leaving her as she took the seat next to him. Her plate was filled with potatoes, spinach, green peppers, and what appeared to be some sort of meat all mixed together with some seasoning and parmesan cheese.
No offense to Petra Elio was sure there was somebody aside from herself that thought her cooking was good but with personally tasting and seeing the pasta itself Elio could tell that Petra just threw a bunch of foods she looked or she think sounded good together and tried to make it look as fancy as possible to try and make people think it's some fancy food item you'd get at one of the best European restaurants in Europe to make up for the terrible taste.
"It looks amazing," Elio lord smiling right through his teeth. Petra beamed in pride as she grabbed her fork and stabbing a potato.
Elio takes a bite out of the meat lightly chewing it allowing his taste buds to digest and figure out what it was.
"It's lamb," Petra states noting her husbands confusion causing him to pause mid chew.
Elio quickly swallows the lamb and takes no hesitation to grab his glass of wine that Petra had set out for him hiding the disgust on his face with the ruby red liquid.
Petra laughs, "You'll get used to it darling,"
He had been telling himself that for years but he wasn't going to be telling her that. Instead he steered the topic to what this whole meal was about.
Her news.
"You said you had something to tell me? Is it bad?" Elio asked setting his glass down onto the table and giving his wife a fake curious look. He needed to make himself appear as if he was interested so that she could just start talking and he could drain out her voice, he tended to do that all the time in moments like this.
"It isn't bad, well hopefully, not for us." Petra said which caused Elio to give her a sideways glance.
"What do you mean?"
"Well as you know I went shopping for the nursery today and I ran into somebody you'll never believe, take a guess!"
Great, she was playing one of these games tonight. Elio thought to himself as he shrugged his shoulders naming off the first person that he could think of that was in her social ladder that she always seemed to gossip about.
"Tracy Brandon?"
Petra scrunched her nose up in disgust shaking her head. "God no, but good job remembering the witches name honey." Petra smiled patting his hand. "I ran into Davina!"
Elio's blood runs cold at the mention of Davina his body tensing as he looks at his wife who was putting food in her mouth.
Elio cleared his throat hoping she didn't know. "Oh, um how was that?"
"It was good, we chatted for a bit and talked about her parents annual trip to visit their family in Rome."
Elio relaxed in his seat forcing himself to take a bite out of the meal she made the urge to throw everything back up as it settled in his stomach.
Every year for the month of November Davina's family went to Italy and visited their family that lived all throughout the country, Elio participated once and actually enjoyed his time with Davina's family they were very welcoming and friendly and her grandmother was an amazing cook.
He wondered if Davina would be going with them this time. She was pregnant and wasn't sure how she felt traveling on a plane for that long or traveling at all, the thought alone troubled him but he wasn't going to voice his opinion it wasn't his place.
"Did you know she was pregnant?"
Elio choked on his food his eyes immediately locking onto hers which held a look that was unrecognizable to him. His heart was beating in his chest as he looked at Petra fear coursing through his veins.
She knew.
Petra f*****g knew, he was dead.
"I know, that was my reaction as well!" Petra exclaimed catching Elio completely off guard.
Elio gave Petra a confused look as she casually drank her lemonade she had. Elio was afraid to speak, he didn't want to say the wrong thing in case it upset Petra, she didn't appear upset as of right now but if there was anything he learned while being married to her was that she kept her cool until you were last expecting it.
Petra didn't say anything nor did Elio, he didn't know what to say. He wasn't sure if he was even supposed to say anything.
"I didn't know she was," Elio said after a minute of silence, the silence slowly killing him.
Petra shook her head. "I think she was trying to keep it hidden, it seemed like she didn't know who the father was," Petra said stabbing the lamb with her fork.
Elio frowned at what Petra said. Davina wasn't that kind of girl, he knew that and it bothered him that Petra had said that about her but he wasn't going to defend her. He couldn't.
"Did she say anything to you about it?"
Petra shook her head with an eye roll. "No, thank god! Honestly Elio, I don't know why you still keep her in your life this just proves she has no morals."
Elio frowned at what Petra said. "Petra-"
"Don't defend her Elio, she comes from a very religious family yet she got pregnant out of wedlock? That's considered a sin."
"You have no right to judge when you aren't religious Petra." Elio said giving his wife a look shocked that she would even say something like that knowing she hasn't gone to church in years.
"I may not be religious Elio but I know a w***e when I see one."
"She's not a w***e god damn it!" Elio yelled slamming his fist down onto the table, the sound echoing throughout the room.
Elio shook his head not caring that he lost his cool, he was fed up with the conversation. He couldn't believe what he just heard Petra say he knew she didn't like her but calling her a w***e was a whole other level.
He didn't care if Petra ran her mouth and talked trash on other people but when it came to Davina that was somebody she knew she shouldn't be saying anything about. Davina was off limits yet Petra was here running her mouth thinking that she was better than who Davina was as a person and Elio was going to put up with that.
"I'm going to make one thing clear Elio, I don't want that woman or her child anywhere near ours am I clear?" Petra's cold voice slices the thick silence.
Elio looks at his wife her eyes holding anger as they locked with his. Petra had nothing to worry about her child going anywhere near Davina's, Elio had made it pretty clear that he didn't want to be involved and he was starting to regret it but he wasn't about to lose his only other chance to be apart of his other unborn child's life.
"You don't need to worry about that Petra,"
Petra nods her head her shoulders slumping in relief. "Thank you Elio, now let's eat this lovely meal shall we?" She says with a smile patting his hand.
Elio gives her a fake smile before looking down at the poison in front of him with a frown.

"Are you sure you don't want to go walk time square with us?" Maria asked sitting on Davina's bed her brown hair braided back into two dutch braids.
Davina looked up from her pregnancy book with a smile nodding her head. "Yeah I'm sure, I'm still pretty jet lagged," she said referring to the plane ride.
"It was only two hours and half!" Maria exclaims to which Davina just shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm pregnant, it feels different for me." Davina said. She wasn't lying, she was feeling a little bit tired but not from the plane ride.
Maria doesn't look convinced but she doesn't push the matter any further and stands up from her bed.
"Okay, well we'll be back later text us if you need anything, okay?"
Davina nods her head watching as Maria walks out of the room and into the living room space area where the others were waiting. She knew she was what others considered a party pooper but Davina could honestly care less on what her friends thought, she felt exhausted and felt like staying inside where it was warmer.
She could hear the hotel door open from the living room area from where she sat the silence wrapping around her like a warm blanket allowing Davina to release a breath of relief.
Davina had been anxious the whole plane ride to New York afraid to tell her friends that she wasn't going home with them. It was going to be hard for her but she had to get it done especially if she wanted to fully move on and put Elio in her past so she could raise her children she just didn't know how to drop the news.
Davina was surprised that somebody had reached out to her the following night after she had submitted an application she had thought she would have been waiting a couple days before she got a response but instead Lenox Hill Hospital had reached out and she took the first interview available when she first arrived which happens to be tomorrow.
Davina had it all planned out. While Maria and Alice were out having breakfast with Alice's grandparents she was going to attend the interview but tell them that she wasn't feeling well and that she was going to rest a bit more before they went out for dinner, it wouldn't be too suspicious and it gives her enough time to come up with the way to tell them she wasn't going back to Florida.
"You didn't go with them?"
Davina is pulled away from her thoughts by Stefan's voice, her eyes immediately shifting over towards him.
She shook her head giving him a lazy smile. "No, I'm feeling a little tired."
Stefan nodded his head crossing his arms across his chest his face showing that he wasn't convinced but he didn't push the matter.
"Well if you're not too tired would you like to join me in ordering pizza and watching a movie, my treat?" He asks dropping his hands giving her a lazy smile, a small blush painting his tan skin.
Davina but her lip her stomach swarming with butterflies as she looks into his brown eyes trying not to get lost in the caramel swirls.
"Sure, what movie?"
Stefan shrugged his shoulders. "Not sure, let's go look?"
Davina nodded her head standing up from her bed her body swirling with anxiety. She was attracted to Stefan she couldn't deny it and being pregnant made her hormones super sensitive and when she was around him she tended to get a little flustered.
They entered the living room space in the suite taking a seat on the couch. Stefan took his phone out from his back pocket while handing Davina the remote turning the tv on in process.
"Here, look for a movie to watch while I order the pizza from the kitchen."
Davina shook her head as she opened the free movie menu that was on the tv. She wasn't sure what kind of movie Stefan wanted to watch and she hated how he had to put her on the spot on choosing the movie.
She settled on the comedy section since it seemed to be everybody's favorite genre these days and began looking at those movies. She was halfway through the list before she finally settled on Stepbrothers with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.
"Oh, you chose my favorite movie."Stefan stated with excitement in his voice as he got
off the phone, a smile on his face.
Davina smiled placing the remote on the coffee table and bringing her knees up to her chest. "Same, it's such a good movie."
The two sat for awhile in silence watching the movie, occasionally laughing if something funny happened.
Davina felt a little bit uncomfortable at first not really sure how she was supposed to be acting, talking to boys or to people in general didn't come to her like it was second nature, she had to work her way up to it and get comfortable around the person before she could truly be herself— which she didn't quite understand why it was so hard for her to do that when she was around Stefan, he was related to one of her best friends and has been nothing but nice to her yet she can't help but get all nervous when she was around him.
Maybe it was the guilt that plagued her for having unnecessary s****l dreams about him that made her act like she was some school girl crushing on him— either way Davina didn't like it even if her mind thinks otherwise.
"Is your taste of music as good as your taste in movies?" Stefan asked breaking the silence with his voice.
Davina looks away from the screen, the scene where Dale is asking Brennan if he touched his drum set playing in the background as she gave him a sheepish smile shrugging her shoulders.
"Maybe? I think I have good music taste, but don't we all think that?"
"True— well, what do you listen to?"
Davina looked down at the coffee table her eyes focusing on the remote while she thought of some musical artist that she listened to. Her music taste varied from numerous of musical artist and genres it was hard to actually choose which ones were her favorites and which ones she listens to because they came up on shuffle in her playlist.
"My music taste varies. I like rock music up to some pop, I like some country and some Jazz. Musicals are always good— but if I were to choose my top three artist, I would have to say Ariana Grande, Pierce the Veil, and maybe Rihanna."
Stefan let's out a chuckle but not one of those judgmental kind that would make Davina look away in embarrassment but it did indeed make her blush as he gave her subtle nod as if in respect.
"That is a big variety, but I think I have to agree with you on Pierce the Veil they're one of my favorite bands too. I mainly listen to rock."
"Who are your favorites?"
Stefan let's out a deep breath running his hands down his thighs acting like he was sitting in a hot seat and was being questioned by a police officer for a murder.
"Aside from Pierce, I like Sleeping with Sirens, Metallica, Nirvana, Motionless in White to name a few."
Davina nodded her head she knew a few songs from a couple of the bands but she didn't know enough to call herself a fan but the songs she did know she liked.
"I know a couple songs from those bands but I don't listen to them that much, what about movie taste, aside from comedy of course."
"Horror or Romance." Stefan responded quickly without hesitation catching Davina completely off guard that she almost missed the last thing he said.
"Romance?" Davina asked in shock, her mouth partially open probably resembling that Pikachu meme that's been surfing the internet lately.
Stefan blushed running his left hand through his hair with a small nod. "Yeah, I like watching those from time to time."
"What's your favorite romance movie?"
"Promise not to judge?" Stefan asked turning to look at her, his soft brown eyes holding onto hers, the butterflies in her stomach beginning to flutter as she slowly nodded her head.
"Of course,"
Stefan smiled, "I know you won't judge me," he said with a wink making Davina look down with a blush thankful that her hair fell down like a curtain.
"My favorite romance movie would have to be Love, Rosie."
"With Lily Collins and Sam Claflin?" Davina asked, shocked that he would even know what that movie even existed.
Blushing, Stefan nods his head with a light chuckle. "Yep, can I be honest with you though?"
"Um, sure?" Davina responded.
Stefan takes a deep breath composing himself. Davina let out a low chuckle as she watched him act like he was being questioned for a murder over something that he wants to share.
"I only watched it because Finnick Odair played one of the main characters BUT the film was good!"
Davina burst out into laughter no judgement at all knowing all too well that's the exact same reason why she watched it too.
"That's the same reason why I watched it so judgement from me,"
Stefan smiles opening his mouth to say something but he was interrupted by a knock on the door before he could even get anything out. He gives Davina a soft smile before excusing himself to get the door returning minutes later with a box of pizza.
Davina's stomach growls out in hunger as the smell of pepperoni maneuvered around the room. Stefan places the box on the coffee table lifting the lid allowing them to get a glimpse of the deliciousness.
Davina loved eating whatever food they had at the hotel, Maria's uncle hired the most amazing chiefs to work in the kitchen so that his guest would always feel satisfied with their meals if they chose to use room service, the pizza was actually one of her favorites so the fact that Stefan suggested this out of all the food options definitely made her happy.
Stefan handed Davina a slice before grabbing one for himself, Davina took a bite her taste buds immediately going crazy once the cheese and sauce made contact with her tongue. Davina releases a moan of delight almost forgetting how good the pizza actually was.
Stefan laughed at Davina's reaction causing her to blush and look down at her lap licking her lips to get any sauce that didn't quite make it into her mouth.
"Sorry, I almost forgot how good the pizza was here."
"I've never had it."
Davina stops chewing mid chew staring at Stefan in disbelief as he casually takes what's his first bite of this deliciousness they had in front of him her eyes watching his every reaction to get his reaction.
"You're joking, how could you not have had it before? Is it good, do you like it?" Davina asked finally composing herself not caring if she sounded like a child showing their parents something they made themselves.
Stefan laughs at her behavior nodding his head giving her a soft held smile. "Yeah, it's good."
Davina sighs in fake relief as she wipes the imaginary sweat off her forehead. "Good, I was afraid I was going to be going to prison for murder tonight if you didn't."
"Awe man, I don't get murdered by a cute girl tonight?" Stefan laughs shaking his head.
Davina blushes at the comment looking down at her lap grateful that her hair covered her face like a curtain.
Davina decides to ignore his comment and continue eating her pizza afraid that if she were to say anything that her voice would fail her and nothing would come out or something embarrassing would.
The two sit eating a couple more slices of pizza while watching the movie. It wasn't until halfway through the movie when Davina started feeling fatigue, she had eaten four slices of pizza and her stomach was crying for more but she didn't want to eat the whole entire pizza and have Stefan think she was some pig who only ate and slept, he didn't know about her pregnancy and she wasn't quite sure if she wanted to tell him just yet. She had just met the guy and even though he may be Maria's cousin, she didn't know how well she can trust him to not tell anybody— not like it would do any damage anyway, Petra already knew about her pregnancy and she's smart Davina wouldn't put it past her to already figure everything out.
Besides, she wasn't going back to with them to Florida she was staying in New York so maybe telling Stefan wouldn't be too much of an issue, it's not like anything was going to happen between them anyway. He was her best friends cousin and she was pregnant with someone else's baby.
If Elio didn't think Davina was somebody he could be with and have a future with why would Stefan think differently?
Clearly there's something wrong with her if the only guy who has ever shown her any ounce of attention and claimed to like her magically drops everything like nothing happened.
She hated that her feelings for Elio were so strong. He was the love of her life and she thought he felt the same way towards her but she was terribly wrong because if you love someone, you don't hurt them no matter what's going on in life. You don't do it, yet he did.
"Are you okay? I didn't say anything to upset you did I?"
Davina looks away from the tv the sound of Stefan's voice bringing her away from her depressing thoughts, her eyes lock with his concerned gaze, a look of worry clear on his face.
Davina gives him a confused look. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"I just noticed that you started crying, I just wanted to make sure that I didn't upset you,"
Davina brought her hand up to her face, the bridge of her fingers making contact with wet skin from her tears. Davina blushed shaking her head, 'why do I always have to embarrass myself' .
"Yeah I'm okay, I don't know why I started crying, I guess the movie is just too emotional."
Stefan gave Davina a weird look looking over at the tv before back at Davina releasing a light chuckle.
"Yeah, I guess being the reason your step-brother gets crushed by a bed is pretty sad."
Davina laughed looking over at the tv where sure enough they were just finishing up the aftermath of the part where Dale was telling Nancy and his dad about crushing Brennan with the bunk beds they made.
"That's embarrassing I-"
"It's okay, you don't need to tell me why you were crying, just know that if you ever need a shoulder to cry on I'm here for you." Stefan said cutting Davina off bringing his hand up to her left shoulder giving it a reassuring squeeze as he smiles at her.
Butterflies erupt in Davina's stomach as his words register in her brain. She wanted to squeal out in excitement like a school girl who just got told by her crush that they liked her but of course she had to keep calm and collected because he wasn't doing that, he was just letting her know that if Maria or Alice weren't available he was.
"Thank you, that means a lot to me more than you know."
Stefan smiles dropping his hand as he scoots closer to Davina to point where his right leg was lightly pressed against hers— an action that makes the butterflies in her stomach to build up.
He brings a hand up moving a strand of her hair out of her face tucking it behind her ear. His hand trails down her jawline as he drops it, the sound of the tv being blocked out as Davina just watches Stefan waiting for his next move.
By now the two were sitting closer together than when they first sat down. Davina could smell Stefan's cologne radiating off of him every time he moved a muscle which always made Davina tense because it meant he was close to her and she didn't want to do something that would embarrass her in front of him but now that it was surrounding her like a blanket it was more relaxing than nerve wracking like before.
"Davina?" Stefan whispered, his voice low and eyes never leaving hers.
"Yeah?" Davina whispered back, her voice surprisingly soft and not shaky.
"Can I kiss you?" He asks leaning in his warm breath fanning her face.
Holy s**t! This can't be happening! Was he seriously asking if he could kiss her?
"Y-"
"Oh my gosh it's happening!"
"Alice, shut the f**k up!"
Stefan and Davina immediately jump away from each other, there eyes darting over to the open space area where the door was, a very annoyed Maria holding up what seems to be a very intoxicated Alice, who had a big grin on her face as she looked between Stefan and Davina.
Davina's face immediately feels hot from the blush that made its way onto her face her heart hammering in her chest. She didn't know who she was more upset at herself for almost allowing herself to kiss Stefan or at Alice for interrupting something that Davina had been dreaming about since she met the dude.
Either way, Davina had just dodged a bullet from the devil.
